sorry dude you gotta carry your own weight
also i dont feel like spending an hour sourcing all the reasons on why i hold this beleif, with have to do with a bunch of Nietzsche that i read, that i know they didnt read.

Ok, I'm going to take this one slow, because I've been up far too long.

its the mundanity of your argument that makes me want to alter its context. yes nicotine is psychoactive, we all know, is that necessarily why it is used, in my opinion no.

Its not why you use it. That is all. Thats as far as your opinion can go. You want me to respect your opinions, but you stretch them beyond the boundaries of what the word even means. Arguing it is not used for its psychoactive purposes in general is ridiculous, and ignorant.

this isnt your godamn discussion, many threads on this site divert from the OP's original intent in creating them and after that actuallyu become much more interesting than they originally were.

im not being a defensive douche, youre being a fucking whig, remember its you who began this little antagonist rapport between us.

The reason it had no bearing on the discussion, which was just between me and you at that moment, is because I was making a point that there are no non-psychoactive chemicals that release dopamine. From this, we're able to reason that nicotine is psychoactive. People use nicotine for the effects is causes, therefor, people use it for psychoactive purposes.

And im philosophically intolerant to your whole (everybodys) cause effect way of thinking, not only is it dry, it stinks of foolish credulity, ie. beleif in absolute truth of 'facts', causes, etc. The realm of science being an Absolute ground upon which everything rests. Sorry, i disagree with that and ive a right to my opinion.

And I've got the right to my opinion that you've lost your mind.

Thinking things don't happen without a repeatable, provable cause is credulity? Wow. Just plain wow.

You won the argument. Seriously, I don't know what he's thinking defending himself. There comes a point in an argument where you just admit your wrong.

Better yet, don't start an argument you can't win. Then you'll seem even jeeter.

1)My opinion is that others use it in that way, not just me, but everybody. that is not stretching the meaning at all. I can have an opinion about myself and I CAN ALSO HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT OTHERS. What i hate is your common sense rationalism, does everybody actually know the motives behind their actions? that would require a more perfect being than man im afraid. we are unwillingly affected and shaped by so many cultural memes, that we barely have any free headspace. Realizing this is the first step towards a more mature rationalism, rather than your sophomoric 'mind over matter' garbage.

2)Whatever/

3)From this i extrapolate some dominate themes.
Thing
Event
Cause
Effect
Reality
Being

Glad you know what the absolute meaning of these words is, and have settled the two-millenia philosophical debate that began in ancient Greece once and for all.

Do you think that reality exists in a vaccuum, that 'events' happen and are predicated by 'causes', succeeded by 'effects' and thats all there is to it? Its this kind of smug mentality that stifles the air, putrefying the atmosphere necessary for any kind of original thought.

Lastly, dont call me ignorant or crazy, cause i could equally call you a stuffy, unsubtle douchebag.

Your opinion is infringing on fact. This invalidates it, at least when its a blanket statement like that.

You inhale tobacco. Nicotine in the tobacco alters your brain chemistry, causing enjoyable feelings and triggers the reward mechanism. The reward mechanism gives the reinforcing urge. This causes the cycle to repeat.

The mental enjoyment of inhaling smoke does not happen until after theres already a physiological precedent. This means it is not the cause.

To clarify - the cycle functions without your theory of pain/pleasure from smoke inhalation. Therefore, its not what starts it. If it was, the cycle would fail without it.

Pain does NOT equal pleasure in a normal human(or animal for that matter) mind. You grow to like the smoke, because of a mental association with the pleasurable physiological responses, and easing of withdrawal symptoms. This is no longer a normal human thought process.

What you're proposing is just like saying people enjoy IV heroin so much because the needle hurts, instead of associating the pain with pleasure after the fact, like it really is.

The rest of what you had to say? I'm not touching it. Philosophy does not belong in this debate.

Philosophy is subjective. It has no basis without the individual or the mind. This makes it unreliable, and unsuitable to defend yourself with on objective matters. Any 'truth' gained from philosophy is meaningless if the next person does not see it that way.

Science is objective. With or without the individual, science is still science. Its quantifiable, measurable, empirical, and most importantly repeatable. It deals in absolute truths, instead of individual ones.

Mental aspects don't come into play until the cycle has already been started. Philosophy doesn't come into play until after the mind. Therefore, they are not a necessary part of the cycle. Not being a necessary part of the cycle, they are not the reason behind it.

People the only reason you get a "high" or "floaty feeling" is because the oxygen that is in your lungs is being replaced by smoke so its lack of oxygen to the brain. Eventually you start breathing normally again once your body gets used to a pattern. If you want that floaty feeling hold your damn breath.

Its obvious you didn't read this thread in the slightest.

I got a question.

Do cigars agitate your throat as much as cigarettes do? I've noticed just after 2 cigarettes my throat kinda hurts but after a cigar, it's not as bad.

On another note, I get that crazy intense buzz from cigarettes every once in a while. It goes away very fast if you've smoked a couple cigarettes recently.

are you stupid? lack of oxygen? fuck me lmao it's not like the smoke is 100% of what you breathe in along dude don't be stupid ffs..... smoke accounts for just a small portion of what you breathe in, even if you don't take a heavy amount of air along the smoke is going to be less prevalent than the oxygen in the mixture
it's obvious that nicotine provides a "rush" (for the lack of a better term, i don't like using the word rush for anything besides IV stuff).

i have been a smoker for maybe 5 years now, and yes im addicted, duh. i smoke a little over a pack a day. i still get that rush/tingliness from the first cigarette i smoke in a day when i first wake up. and yes, cigarettes go VERY WELL with opiates, especially the heavy duty one like heroin and oxycontin. i will not use oiates until i have cogarettes on me to smoke.

I feel like a burden is lifted after the first cigarette. I smoke it in bed. I haven't really slept recently, though.

I unapproved some posts in this thread. Enough with the flaming, take it elsewhere. I also unapproved some 1 word responses. Don't try to bump your post count this way, it's annoying and just adds clutter to the forum.

cigarettes are one of the few drugs that scare me at how addictive they are.... i really try not to make a habit of smoking them, i might go through 1-3 when i have no pot left to smoke, or when im driving with shit in my car that i would rather not have a cop find, when i get that rush i always go the speed limit where when im completely sober i drive faster than is safe... i smoked my first cigarette a while ago, and i felt the signs of addiction after only 1... almost as soon as i finished it i wanted another... but i have enough self control to stop myself...

Why did any of you guys start smoking in the first place?

All the negative smoking ads I heard/saw always talked about actual diseases. It wasn't like the drug scare tactics, it was a legal substance, that was being explicitly labeled as a bearer of disease and addiction. About 90% of the people I was friends with in high school have taken up smoking and I know they heard much of the same information. So, what was/is the appeal?

It's a personal choice. You don't like it, more power to you.

The appeal was and still is the nicotine. You pick up smaller little things along the way.

If there wasn't an appeal...yeah.

Funny enough, I started in rehab.

It was the only thing we were allowed(not even a cup of caffeinated coffee in the morning), so I had someone run me up a few packs. We were only allowed 7 a day, but it was better than no drugs at all.

I concur...except my hospital allowed 4! Two on each cigarette break at opposite times. One of course was right before dinner, of course.

i had my first cigerette when i was twelve.....peer pressure....didn't like it then left home before i was 13....and started again....i blame my mother =D ... my reasoning is...when i left home i started to go through passive smoking withdrawals ...lol.....i'm 31 and have smoked ever since.....eccept of corse when i was pregnant ......hmmm i'm sure i could have left that last bit out! but anyway.....i love smoking port royal and don't see how i will ever give it up! it keeps me sane!
