Cigarettes...

I've been smoking maybe two cigarettes a day for the last two weeks and the rush I get from them is pretty intense. I've heard that eventually the immediate nicotine rush becomes absent and when that happens one knows they're addicted to nicotine, is there any truth to this?

I've been a daily pot smoker for the last few months and don't really want to get hooked on cigarettes. Do any regular smokers still get such a hazy, tingling, floating headrush with each cigarette? (I only smoke twice a day because I've found that the effects are totally negligible if I smoke more.)

Should I stop while I'm ahead, before I stop getting rushes from smoking and just do it out of craving or will I always be guaranteed a nicotine rush when smoking only twice a day? I don't want to get hooked for nothing. :P

You are completely right. Nothing happens when you smoke a cigarette and are addicted, except you don't want another cigarette for a short time after. It's essentially a legally sanctioned and taxed crack. Always in withdrawal, as the body withdraws minutes after the cigarette. It's a shit habit. I see my doctor today to go on Shantix. Ive been up for fucking four days though I must look like ass.

A bit off topic, but after watching Zeitgeist I can't stop thinking that cigarettes are jus that...A cheap way to keep the masses hooked and keep the income flowing. I actually feel more guilty after smoking a cigarette than hitting a bong. :P

If I'm going to continue smoking, should I rather start rolling my own? Is there any real benefit to smoking hand-rolled tobacco or is it just a misconception that you're better off smoking that than commercial cigs?

Wish I could could comment further, but cigarettes are one road I will not go down. If i were you, I'd quit while I still could.

Yeah dude, why even smoke? It's in my opinion the biggest dissapointment I have in myself. That says a LOT. Srsly.

(Atleast I know my avatar OWNS. LOL IM GEEKING OUT AT IT.)

Why smoke? Just for those ten minutes of floaty tingliness...I guess. :P

What's weird, those short-lived effects of well-being are seriously more intense than anything I've had smoking weed. :O

Yes, they are. Remember though dude...every person who is addicted to nicotine started out in the same fashion. For those ten minutes of floatyness. It's really a deceptive drug and I'm pretty sure I've had my share.

ive been smoking for 4 years and i dont get lightheaded or a "rush" as you call it.

Well, that's the idea. That's what gets you hooked. The 10 minute buzz. Soon it's nothing more than a dream. I wish I got that now.

I find that the rush comes back after a couple of days abstinence. Sometimes it's even there on the first cigarette of the day. Meh, maybe that's just me though.

The only benefit is that it contains no fillers, the bad thing is that it has no filter, unless you buy the rolling papers that come with filters, they are kinda new, and very expensive. And what really sucks is it tastes like shit, and it still has nicotine, just not fillers. So you could still become addicted.

If i were you, and wanted to try rolling my own, i would just buy a pack of American Spirits which contain no additives/fillers, but they still have nicotine. Plus if you buy american spirits you wont have to waste time rolling a cig.

I forgot to mention, Marlboro Ultra light is the lightest ciggerate out there, it has hardly any nicotine, depending on how you smoke it. Those are probably more healthy than american spirits because American spirts are harsh for a beginner smoker and contain more nictotine. The reason marlboro, camel, etc..... put additives in their ciggarettes is to make it smoke smoother and not so harsh like american spirits or other non additive ciggs.

good luck

I actually smoke anywhere form 0 to 3 cigarettes a day. I will only smoke them whilst listening to some good music, and in a relaxed state. When I cannot listen to music, I might still have one cigarette, although I will always chooce to be on my own and stationed in a quiet place. Never talking to others, it distracts me from enjoying the moment. I find I enjoy them best like this.

However, when I take my downers, I find I chain smoke a shitload, although I try to make up for it by not smoking the following days after a downer's binge.

If you start smoking more frequently, I would invest in rolling your own. If you only smoke one or two cigarettes a day and dont plan on smoking for an extended period of time, then its probably just as cheap, maybe a little bit more expensive, to buy a pack every 10 or so days.

My advice to you though, just stop smoking. First off, I hate that rush youre talking about, Im glad it doesnt happen anymore, but I really wish I wouldnt have ever started smoking. Quit while you are ahead.

Everybody FELT GREAT when they first started smoking, thwen they got hooked and just needed them to not be 'nickin" as my friend would say.

Luckly I HAVE BEEN THRU WITHDRAWALS OF ALMOST EVERY SERIOUSLY BAD DRUG, so I can pick up 2 cartons of cigarettes and smoke a pack a day and tham stop AND I DONT EVEN FEEL LIKE IAM HAVING WITHDRAWALS, Beacause I HAVE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH WORSE WITHDRAWALS FROM EVERYTHING ELSE, NICOTINE Dosent affect me for SHIT.

^ you dont feel like you had withdrawals because nicotine withdrawal isnt anything. No offense, but I think a 4 year old could go through nicotine WD and not even notice, so I dont think its because of all the other withdrawals youve been through.

Its the cravings that do people in, however, they are really easy to ignore its jsut that cigarettes are so easy to get that its hard to not just go buy your "last pack, seriously this time." If you have the tiniest shred of will power (which I dont) then you can quit smoking.

I'm planning on taking a six month break from weed from January '08, but I don't want to have this lingering craving to smoke cigarettes coupled with that. So yeah, I'm gonna try stop. If only weed were socially acceptable enough to smoke whereever. :(

As you build tolerance to nicotine(and become dependent) you will no longer feel the rush.

As for whether you should smoke...

That's your decision. I'm sure you know the dangers of smoking, so weigh that against the benefits.

<-- "I think a 4 year old could go through nicotine WD ..." lol this baby says he's fuckin hooked

I've been smoking for about twelve years, 1/2-2 packs a day. Compared to opiate withdrawal, or the crash after a speed binge, cigarette craving isn't anything, but I was able to put oxycodone and speed away, and yet I'm still stuck on the cigarettes. They're funny like that.

No but seriously ... it's a hard habit to break, and I think it has much more to do with the habit than any biochemical process of addiction. This is hardly alone w/r/t other drugs, though, think about the "habit" and the "rituals" ... smoking while driving/drinking coffee/after sex/whatever ... crushing OC's .... prepping a shot ... cutting out a line ... cooking and smoking a rock ... even popping pills ... whatever ...

Fuck. This is depressing. I have plans on quitting when I have my first child. But we all know how those "plans" tend to go.

I understand that, but thats most likely because cigarettes are so accesable. Its harder to quit something that is easy to get. You cant just go to any liquor store or gas station and buy oxycodone. If you could, Id imagine it would be just as hard to quit.
