I am 25, 20-30lbs overweight. I look at my mother, age 53, overweight ~100lbs or more, 2 pack a day smoker, DIABETIC and previous heart attack sufferer.

My father, age 55, also overweight but not as much (Still quite a bit), smokes about 1 pack a day.

I don't want to become them. I've tried nicotine patches in the past and got as far as about 1 month quit.

Last Tuesday (5-12) I began to take Chantix, despite the warnings of suicidal thoughts, etc.

This Tuesday I was suppose to quit smoking, but continued until Wednesday. On Wednesday I had one half of a cigarette and none yesterday.

I have been smoking a lot of marijuana though, mainly in the form of blunt wraps (not gutted cigars, wraps) since then even though I own a Volcano vaporizer.

It is getting better, but I still get these nervous feelings in my heart when I get a craving. I am finding myself avoiding other smokers in an attempt to not get jealous.

I have convinced myself I am addicted to a drug that I need to quit. No longer am I trying to "quit smoking" but I am trying to "break my addiction from a drug." I feel it is a more powerful statement to tell yourself that you are breaking your addiction to a drug.

I am not having depression issues, but I am having a lot of (unrelated) issues with my wife that are not making this time easy. Though it is never a good time to quit, I feel now is the best time for my life and health despite any bullshit I have to put up with to quit, going back to smoking just isn't worth it.

I loved it though. I used to love a cigarette on the toilet, after meals, while driving, after class. Sometimes we must part with things we love though.

cigarettes for me are more addictive than opiates and i'm on methadone for that already. Good job on quitting and just stick with it man ! way to go!

Great job, keep it going. Legal drugs are the hardest to quit, since you can buy them, without consequense, at ten stores per square mile. But keep it up. Tobacco has some of the worst long term effects of any drug.

PS - This is probably more of a DS post, though. You'd probably get more responses and support over there.

Good luck man!!! Im pullin for you!!!! Just keep takin your Chantix religiously!!!! I have had friends that were long time, pack a day smokers and it worked great for them, hearing the Chantix success stories first hand is very encouraging, they say the key is just keep taking it no matter what, and do not put yourself in a situation where your going to crave a smoke.
If a situation like that turns out to happen make sure you have a friend or a companion or whatever that you can lean on that can help you through this tough time quitting to offer you encouragement and support, it is key. I quit smoking using NicodermCQ (the patch) so I know how hard it is man, it is a long road, but one in the end that will save your life.

Your doing great, just keep it up and never stop!!!!

Stop smoking blunt wraps, those contain nicotine. Smoke your pot in a rolling paper or with a pipe.

I know the blunt wraps may contain nicotine, but they smell so good.

I like to get a big coughing rip, that instantly kills any nicotine craving because I never smoked tobacco directly after marijuana. To do that with my Volcano I have to jack up the temperature past 400. But yes, I know, the blunt wrap thing is just temporary, I'll probably switch back to my vape on Saturday or Sunday as then I'll be smoking nothing :)

Another thing, a pack is now $6.00 or more, I used to smoke 1 pack a day. 6 x 30 = $180. That's a half ounce (2 weeks worth) of high grade marijuana.

I'm quitting for health and money, not because I don't enjoy it

Glad to hear you'll be cutting out the wraps and switching to vaporizer only, Volcano :)

I stopped smoking for several months a few years ago, using Nicorette gum. It worked great for me till I got stupid one day and had "one" cigarette, and well, we all know how that tends to play out...

Best wishes! A good friend of mine just quit with the help of Chantix, and he didn't suffer any suicidal thoughts or anything, although he did report some strange dreams.

I know a man who was on Chantix before it was released to the public and it helped him quit smoking. But he quit taking it and within days he was smoking again.

Chantix is a wonder drug. Its like buprenorphine, but instead partially agonizes the nictonic receptors. I have taken it before, and it made me pretty much quit smoking.

As far as the depression and suicidal thoughts, i've talked to two doctors about this, and they say that side effect is extremely rare.

I recently started smoking cigs because I've been a straight up pot head for the last 8 months and im on papers(but Im get along with my P.O. very well so i dont get tested much) and should be getting off this june and am expecting a drug test so i just started smoking a cig when i wanna get high, which is alot so im full blown addicted to tobacco now. My g/f straight up hates tobacco and a family member has a big trial box of this shit. I've had suicidal thoughts since like 8th grade and have attempted it once several years ago. I have shared this with literally no one that i actually know as i play football for my school, and "emo" kids get treated like shit here. So i know unknown said this is a rare side effect, but my question is will this drug increase suicidal thoughts in those who already have them or is it like a random sort of thing that only affects certain people?

P.S. sorry to the O.P. for asking a question instead of contributing....ive just been wondering about this for a while and figured itd be senseless to make a new thread, when yours is still on the front page

If somebody is already suicidal, then i dont think the drug has anything to do with it. Depression, however, may be increased. However, this is rare...

How old are u oh roxianne?

Almost 18...and I know it sounds contradicting but i don't really feel depressed. My life is pretty good, I have good friends and have been in a happy relationship going on 4 years now...its not like "I hate my life and dont wanna be here", its more like a curiosity thing....probably doesnt make sense, i know. I just dont know how to explain it

Yes, I have had three VERY vivid dreams. Not bad dreams, but extremely strange and out of place. No big deal though. They're neat :) Increased production of n,n-DMT lol

anybody had any experience with this drug bringing thoughts of suicide?
it is a general warning on the commercial but i have had two different people at work with family members who attempted suicide while quiting tobacco on chantix.
my dad was tryin to quit and mentioned something about chantix and i told him about the people from work and showed him the commercial one time when it came on. so he didnt try it.... however on the flip side he still smokes

not to be a negative nancy but no one has mentioned the negatives about chantix yet so has no one experienced them? or is this just a negative preconcieved notion in my head?

woops never mind this was mentioned by roxanne and unknown...... well anyways i have heard of people attempting suicide while takin chantix, however since they arent family members or close friends i have no idea about thier family history/ genetic predispositions

I haven't experienced them and to be honest, I fudged exactly how "stable" I was to my doctor in order to get them.

In my opinion, if I'm going to commit suicide, then it's fate and I'm just living out a predetermined script. That, I am ok with. If I'm meant to quit smoking, I will.

Thing is, I really believe that I'm meant to quit smoking NOW. I'm not ready to die. I haven't experimented with enough drugs yet. That's motivation enough to keep living ;) (...oh plus my wife and I still need to have a son.. I'm the last male with my last name)

Champix doespni.spoololife.nfo it interact with any anti-deppresants that being mirtazipine,And also opiates codeine i am on, Is it safe to take chamix with these med's?:)

I took some hydrocodone the other night, like 15 or 17.5mg, on one of my first nights of Chantix with no issue.

How's it all going Volcano?

I am considering Chantix but am worried about the depression thing. Being a heavy pot smoker I find myself susceptible to depression and suicidal thoughts (not serious contemplation, just the thoughts), but hearing people talk of it as a wonder drug like bup really makes me want to give it a crack.
