Cannabis Study cigs vs. MJ on lungs. Very cool for us smoksters.

So heavy smokers have a 7% increase . But the study was done with people who were pack a day cig smokers as well? That might have had something to do with it ?

Find a study with ONLY weed smokers in the entire group .

And the second study, 96 % in study were smokers, and 15% are MJ smokers. and the control numbers are all wacked out.

This isn't flaming but these studies seem awful lol .

I agree the studies are hardly conclusive.

It's a hard subject to research.

Maybe smoking weed is harmless. I sure hope so. But I'm not convinced myself just yet.

Right but these studies involve people who smoke nicotine as well.

"only marijuana smokers"

I was replying to the post your changed. You said in that, that the study did not say there were no risks, implying my comments were not relevant. I'm just pointing out that they are relevant and one reason is that the study showed no risk, whilst others have found some risk.

Its not harmless. I have gotten horrible coughs from smoking weed lol , when I just smoked weed. Lol you are right in the fact that you are still inhaling fire , bronchitis etc.

Just saying, I really dont think it could kill you , unless its a heart attack for out of shape stoners (lol). And its pretty hard to say what kills you from a heart attack anyways (food, lack of exercise, smoking, genetics, everything combined).

But try and find a SINGLE case of cancer reported from smoking solely weed. You'll be looking for a long time.

I have to agree that the cancer risks associated with it seem a lot lower than with tobacco which is great. But one study is one study.

I've been reading up on the health of fat consumption. Recently there have been reports of studies seeming to show that saturated fats are not linked to heart disease. Yet about 80% of big meta-studies show there is. Even something as agreed on as saturated fat being bad for you can be picked apart and doubt cast upon it, and there has been orders of magnitude more research done on that. So to be sure about cannabis cancer we need a LOT more research.

The news for cannabis causing emphysema and bronchitis seems a quite bad and quite settled. However I think you can reduce this dramatically by smoking only pure weed in a pipe because you're only smoking a relatively small amount.

Vaping seems to be the answer - hardly any risks at all.

Tashkin's research on cannabis smokers, cannabis + tobacco and non-smokers was extremely well designed with large numbers of individuals chosen according to equivalent socioeconomic status throughout their whole smoking lives and it showed a 10 fold increase of lung cancer for tobacco smokers relative to non-smokers and a one fold decrease in cancer risk for cannabis smokers relative to non-smokers iirc. As far as studies go you can't find many better designed than this. Dr. Tashkin is probably one of the most unbiased authorities on the subject since the conclusions drawn from the research were both counterintuitive to him and contradicting to his original hypothesis. I believe there's something in the cannabis that balances out the cancer risk of carcinogens such as benzenes etc. It would be interesting to see if and by how much vaporizing cannabis reduces the risk factor for lung cancer and other diseases. At first I was skeptical, seeing videos such as Rick Simpson's 'Run from the cure' since the guy doesn't didn't even complete his 10th grade education at high school, but ever since then I have started to have more of an open mind that the anti cancer effects of cannabinoids are not just confined to in vitro research and animal studies that cannot be extrapolated to in vivo human clinical situations.

Interview with Dr. Donald Tashkin

Hell yes! Long story short here just 5 minutes ago I started coughing(had a tickle in my throat for weeks) and coughed up what else but a peice of Weed? Yes I said weed, it was charred slightly so I only assume my pipe contributed to this, but I've been coughing for months and went through 3 bottles of codeine/phenameth syrup(weed IS a gateway drug, indirectly ha!) anyway it's great to not have a chronic cough,
pun intended.
