The entire idea of a "crackdown" in the Lounge, where the motto has always been post at your own risk, is laughable.

and it isn't simply a matter of taste. it's a matter of TROLLISH behaviour. I'm not mentioning any names, but it was strongly felt by many staff and users alike. Certain regulars have a deep ingraned habit of posting the same redundant shit in almost every thread they touch. Much of it means nothing to anyone but themselves and few others. These post alienate all other members, and reduces all the threads to the same lazy, tired and uncreative one.

Word to that! I personally found the Lounge to be more fun when a more laissez-faire attitude was applied to the content. It seemed to self-regulate pretty well.

Yeah. Sometimes the change is in an undesirable direction, as BA said, but I guess it falls to us senior members, and especially staff, to push the obnoxious towards a more fun style. From observing events in the Lounge I believe (without studying patterns of trolling in a scientific manner) that having a relatively unvarnished, honest online persona and outcunting/assraping when necessary is probably more effective than presenting a nice and PLURry front on the outside, but then dropping the facade and becoming all butthurt and confrontational when somebody goes too far.

i can't speak for rc, or anyone else, but i wasn't considering this an overreaction bc i was afraid of my own behavior, just trying to give you the view of it from the peanut gallery.

This is true, but obviously cracking down on them hasn't solved the problem, so what makes you think continuation of the strategy will? I do feel that the behavior of some of these regulars is now trollish, but did it really reach that level before mods started harassing them about it?

Perhaps a better idea is just posting in the thread in a non-threatening (note that "threatening" and "cunty" or "assraping" are different attitudes) manner to get it back on topic. It's not like thread derailment isn't a staple of the Lounge. There are definitely BL memes (pro-centre, BSS, etc.) that have, in the past, been promiscuously used to derail threads.

Maybe it's time to think about Lounge-specific temporary bans, maybe starting for a short time, perhaps only a day, and getting longer with continued offenses, as a disciplinary measure for the worst offenders. If the poster then trolls other forums, I fully support more drastic discipline. However, this may not be a good solution, it's just an idea that popped off the top of my head.

Yes but second opinion is like asking a work coleague a question at work about work...........its pretty serious business and no lightheartedness is acceptable. They have video cameras monitoring your every friggin move in there and if you slacken off for even a moment then your sure to be hauled into the bosses office for a good talking to.

Its all business.



No Im talking about somewhere where you can sit down and have a cup of coffee with mates, have a chin wag and if it happens to go a wee bit off topic then no big deal cos its the way the convo developed. You can have a few drinks and nobody minds if you raise your voice a little once in a blue moon or happen to have the juke box on playing some golden oldies in the background. And yet at the same time you are aware of those arround you and show a certain ammount of more or less self regulated respect.

Its a relaxing place to be.



Of course the lounge as it is falls more into the category of my local. There is no warning sign outside in so many words but its pretty friggin obvious just by looking at some of the cars parked outside and the abundance of Harleys that this is no ornary pub. Enter and be prepared to accept that how it is inside is how it is. Language is brazen, tits will be seen from time to time and yes there is a fair spatterring of brawls and of course you are expected to drink like a fish to prove your manliness. The cops do there best and every now and then they try to make all these new rules very pointedly aimed at the main trouble makers but its all to no avail because it is what it is and there is a place in the world for pubs such as this..........hell, I will admit to frequenting my local quite a bit, but then Im known and accepted and if need be, looked after.

Great for when you want to spice things up a bit.



So once again I ask for that middle ground and then everyone will be happy ever after.
Hell why not just give it a go and if its not working then simply amalgamate it back with the lounge............

i define "trollish behavior" as anyone who tries to disrupt this site. its even worse when they have been asked multiple times, by multiple people, to chill out and they keep doing it. there are several people i can think of who fall into this category. hence the reason why we are having a "crackdown".
