EMD Can we get a freakin' TECHNO thread or what?

I was at a Ahmet Sendil party last month, he's a good DJ and producer of minimal.

I'll be hearing Rush, Advent & Industrialyzer, Space DJz, Ben Sims, A'Paul and Derrick May in the next 2 months .. oh and Umek, so there will a little minimal but not as much (woohoo!)

advent is up there on the list of DJs I need to see.

latac, you're from the balkans... do you ever catch peppelino? he's from around there no?

He was in our country last month, couldn't go though, good producer and DJ with a good drive. I think he's from hungary.
Spiros Kaloumenos is a good DJ from Greece that I could recommend. Veztax, Psiho and Reaky also Rydel (house, trance, techno) are worth mentioning.

but straight techno (and not the hard, slamming shit. that is totally dead, unfortunately).

Really? I like that slamming shit. Like Sven Vath's sets from 96-2000. Isn't there a place where its still played?

In my bag:

Labels: Compound, Distorted, Methanabol, Inflicted, Corporate, Domestic Violence, Supertech, Artillery, Beast, Industrial Strength, Bitshift...

Artists: Seema, Buchecha, Tomash Gee, Alex K Katz, Patrick Skoog, Glenn Wilson, Mario Raneiri, Andre Morant, Kay D. Smith, Waldhaus, OBI, Martyn Hare, Lars Klein, Xtension, The Advent...

That's just off the top of my head though. I got lots more. I'm REALLY into Hardtechno, crossing over to Industrial Hardcore once in a while.

@ X - I like your list :D ...OBI, Lukas, Lexis, Marco Remus,, Boris S, Arkus P, Killswitch, Ogi, ... top of the line in hard techno/schranz :)

Pet Duo and Space DJz are also worth mentioning...

techno yummyness!

i like a mashup of genres, but can only handle so much of the harder stuff. it has it's time and place i guess. like someone said, you can't really 'genrelise' these days, as DJ's move through a number of sounds, which can only be a good thing IMO.

currently feeling:

STEVE BUG - loopy, melodic, deep.

Chris Duckenfield - seeing this dude this weekend. knows how to throw down a zillion genres and make it work.

Josh Wink - this guy is a technical and creative genius (creates hypnotic loops out of samples, layers them, delays them, i dont know what the fk he does with them. WICKED).

Laurent Garnier - throws down more genres than even Duckenfield. Living legend. Will always hold a special place in my heart after cheesily dropping Man with the Red Face as the sun rose in a castle in Serbia.
Tiefschwarz - solid.

Donacha Costello - don't know who this is, but i've got a wicked loopy techno set he's done that I absolutely love.

Fucking hell do you have good taste!!! I don't really like the harder stuff either - for me, once techno goes above a certain tempo (about 140bpm), it loses the funk, and the only property of the music that I hear is the 'hardness' - above this tempo, it may as well be hardstyle as far as I'm concerned. And besides, I simply can't dance that fast!

Steve Bug - I've only seen him once - many years ago at Fabric - I wasn't that impressed, mainly because he played incredibly slow - like 120bpm (maybe even slower). But then he was playing the first set of the night, in support of Craig Richards and Lee Burridge. But Poker Flat is a great label, and I'd love to see him again, but this time playing the headline set!

Chris Duckenfield - wow, that name takes me back! He's one of the very few tech-house DJs who I've never seen. I reckon I'd love him!

Josh Wink - I've only seen him once before - again, many years ago at Fabric. He played quite slow and very minimal (and this was way before the current 'minimal' trend), although near the end of his set, he created one of my alltime favourite dancefloor moments - he played a bootleg of 'Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody Who Loves Me' combined with an electro beat. I know there was such a bootleg done of the Whitney track with 'Kraftwerk - Numbers', but I don't think that was it. I'd sure as hell love to find out! - it was a real ecstasy moment - after like 3+ hours of playing minimal as fuck, out of nowhere he played the most loved-up, melodic track imaginable :) Oh and his encore track (the last track of the night) was Joey Beltram - Energy Flash :)

You may have already seen this clip, but check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5onCuGqybM - it's one of the sickest clips on youtube!!! - I wish I was there - Higher State is a siiiiiiiiiiiiick track on its own, but the stuff he does with the CDJ deck just takes it to another level - I seriously don't think it's possible for a DJ to fuck with people's heads more than Josh Wink does in that clip!!!

Laurent Garnier - amazing producer and amazing DJ!!! I saw him in Melbourne in early-07 and he was awesome!!! - he played (I think) a 7-hour set, and the range of styles he played was incredible. He didn't play The Man With The Red Face, but he did play Crispy Bacon. And Jaguar. And The Jam & Spoon mix of The Age Of Love. He also played maybe 2 hours worth of drum and bass, which I really enjoyed. He looks a bit miserable when he DJs though (I took soem photos of him when he was DJing, and he wouldn't even smile for the camera!)

Tiefschwarz - I wouldn't class them as techno - I'd class them as house - but house of the very highest quality. Their productions from 03-05 are INCREDIBLE - they pioneered electrohouse (before all the cheesemeisters jumped on the genre). Their 'Misch Masch' compilation is one of my alltime favourite comps - CD1 is an amazing mix - lots of great minimal and electrohouse from 03/04, combined with classic house, techno and electro. It's amazing how fresh and innovative all the electrohouse on the CD sounds - this was obviously before the electrohouse formula was created and the genre went down the pan :( CD2 is a load of remixes that Tiefschwarz did around 03/04 - they range from good to absolutely amazing! They're near the top of my list of DJs I need to see!!!

Donacha Costello - never heard of him, but will check him out!

Josh Wink's older stuff was killer! Some of the first Electronic Music I have ever heard.. I saw him play a few years back at Whistle 6... I was quite disappointed.

Remember that song he did, 'simple man' or something. Ugh.

wow, josh wink is definitely my #1 least favourite DJ and producer.

Can I attempt to sway your opinion? These, are sets I have personally attended, and the man is technically unfathomable. He has the ability to switch between house/ acid-house/ techno very quickly while not changing the overall vibe of the party.

I caught him in a rare set last year with about <200 people (R.I.P Bleu :() and he was playing a lot of stuff off When a Banana Was Just a Banana and all of a sudden he jumped on a 303 and played dark techno acid set for the next two hours, I was floored.
