I will offer an alternative to the benzos.
I you have access to a free clinic (alot of colleges have student health centers that charge little if anything) try and get a sample pack of seraquel. Alot easier than getting a script for benzos, one sample pack will knock you out at least for five uses. Course, you'll have to learn about it to know what to say to get some, but it should be easy since thier isn't any stigma. check out rxlist, they are alot of routes you could go. One way is to say you get bouts of weak mania, nothing to serious, but the stress lately is making it worse. Say you've tried seroquel in the past cause mood stabiliziers made you a zombie and didn't help the mental uneasiness. If they will want med. records, then be vauge and say you would prefer an atypical anti-psychotic because you want to stop the worst feautures of the mania but without a major personality change.
Sounding like you know what your talking about could help you or hurt you, it has done both to me. Try and talk to a younger female psychiatrist, and avoid older males, IMO. A psychologist with a RNP or PA cert. might even be the best, as long as they don't specilize in substance abuse.
This is all based on my experience, and I don't mean to apply it across the board.
