Can a doctor void a script you've filled and change it?

Hey everyone. I've been in a lot of pain and have been going to my IV antibiotic treatments every day. They make me tired. I see my PM doc on Tuesday morning. I ran out of my meds today bc I was taking extra to "survive" the pain. I'm praying that when I see him Tuesday he allows me to go back to my old dosage of 7.5mg's of hydro even though I really need 10mg for the pain I'm in. I'm going to make it clear how this whole month I've been in agony and haven't left the house. my quality of life is not there. he called my father back after my father even called. my father told him I'm having nerve pain which I am but its more severe bone and lymph node pain. Its to the point I'm so depressed and the pain is so bad I want to chop my legs off. I feel hopeless. The doctor mentioned gabapentin which I've been prescribed before. It didn't really seem to help and I don't know if there are other as needed meds for nerve pain. I don't see why I should start on another drug that I hear withdrawals can be awful.

Bottom line I'm willing to try another medication but in conjunction with the hydro because that was working decent at 7.5mg's but I'm not leaving the office without my old dose. I cant go through the pain I'm in its affecting my relationships with family. I can't leave my house.

any suggestions as to what else I can say to my doc to make it clear that I need my old dose back? everyone please wish me the best... prayers, good vibes or whatever that I get the right treatment.

You know what to say. You have said it all here. I think, to be honest, you are just looking for affirmation here to boost your confidence. As I said before, you got this. Dont be scared but be sincere. With everything you are going through, I cannot believe your doctor will deny you from getting relief.

And leave your Dad at home. I hate to say it, but he is a hindrance.

You belong on 7.5... of dilaudid! Hopefully your doc pulls his head out of his ass and gives you what you need. I would agree with the above poster and remove your dad from the pic. Be careful with the Gabapentin too. For ME and I emphasize me, it carried a load of side effects. But as with everything YMMV. Good luck and don't be afraid to threaten to leave your doc's practice if they wont give you what you need.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have to point this out for you.
You typed it so these are your own words.

Willing to try something else on the condition you get what you wanted all the time isn't "willing" at all.
It is obsesive.

Try looking at this from someone else's point of view eg. all of us reading it.

Brooki, this issue will never get resolved with your current mindset.
Please read the quote above, you said it and therefore you want it.
Please release all this negative thinking, you know what needs to be done but IMO you aren't ready to take that step yet.
The more you fight, think, hope for hydro is actually not what you want, so please just fold this "hand", let it go.
You said you are willing so go for it.

It saddens me to read all your posts about hope and getting the right treatment, but you need to GET the treatment and not prescribe it for yourself.
I'm only saying exactly what you said and in no way am I trying to make it more difficult for you, it is completely the opposite, I want you to be free of this "oblivion" and move forward without any strings attached.

I hope you understand what I am trying to do here, and take it to the next level instead of "pondering" about how it will never happen.

I wish you all the best and hope you see the light ASAP, it is shining so brightly you just need to open your eyes to see it.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I've been reading through this thread. Is it possible that your pain increase resulting from a lower dose pf hydro, may be your body becoming dependent on the medication n not the lymes? I'm not saying it is but this may be something to think about n discuss with your doctor.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with her wanting her original dose back while trying a new med. This way pain relief is guaranteed in case the new med doesn't cut it. Especially if it's gonna be gabapentin which doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Just my opinion.

EDIT: Also out of curiosity how old are you Brooke that your dad is so involved if you don't mind my asking?
 
Update. Went to the doctor. he asked me what's been going on and I broke down in tears because of my frustration and pain. He wanted to switch me from hydrocodone to 5mg of methadone 4 times a day. I know about methadone and it helps withdrawals and also pain. he explained it is more potent and addicting and harder to get off. That made me nervous and scared. Of course I want relief but don't want to go down and endless black hole I cant get out. I asked him if we can for now stick with the hydrocodone and he agreed and put me back on 7.5mg's 4 times a day and gave me an 8 day supply of 10mg's of hydrocodone 4 times a day. Feeling relieved now and hoping I can start to function again. my sister in in town and haven't been able to do anything fun with her. I'm also a little unsure.....

anyone in severe pain have good relief from 5mg methadone? opinions? What is better for pain relief? Any difficulties or bad experience's with methadone?

BTW I'm 23 years old.
 
It is really a matter of trial and error and personal preference, Brook. Many doctors think methadone is a long acting analgesic because of its long half-life, but in reality the analgesic duration is much shorter and highly variable so it still requires dosing frequency of every 6 to 8 hours. It probably is a bit more potent than hydrocodone but has a worse side effect profile and is indeed a bitch to get off of using. It is dirt cheap though.
 
Thank you<3 me too. Kittycat thanks for your input about the methadone. I'm am a bit confused as to why my doctor wanted to go that route with the methadone. he says a lot of my bone pain and nerve pain can be helped better with methadone. Idk something just in my gut said don't start on it. I just read on another forum it stores in your bones....not sure if that's true or not.

I told my Boyfriend what happened and that the doc wanted to try me on methadone. he got upset. He goes that's very addicting and junkies use methadone. I don't judge anyone for whatever struggles they have. Bothered me what he said. I know It can/does help pain and is prescribed for pain.

Thing is I asked my doc if I could have a week trial of it and have my other meds incase something went wrong or it wasn't helping me. He denied me that choice. so it was like all or nothing drop my usual meds and just go to methadone. I didn't feel secure with that.
 
A lot of people use methadonee is for pain management. You're doing the right thing by researching it n asking other people's views beforehand.

There is a methadone megathread in the Other Drugs section. Perhaps you could read through that to about people's experience with it n ask questions.

Also you may end up physically dependent on the medication as it the case for most meds hence why people taper off them when they are ready to come off but it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll become addicted to methadone. If you look on the Sober Living section I think they have a thread there discussing the difference between addiction n physical dependence.

Methadone may be more effective against neuropathic pain than other opioids so perhaps that is why your doctor wanted to try it.

I hate to keep talking badly about your loved ones, but your boyfriend is completely ignorant on all the uses of methadone and shouldnt speak of which he doesnt know. It seems those around you Brooki are really getting in the way of your medical management. You should tell them, not in an angry or condescending way, to educate themselves on what you are going through or shut the fuck up.
 
KittCat5- Yes your right they can be very judging and mean. Sometimes my father even yells at me when I'm in pain. Actually last night my father was yelling and being mean that I seemed out of it and was slurring words. I lost it and screamed no I haven't taken anything bc I don't have any medication left and I'm tired because I'm getting IV antibiotics and I'm in a fog of pain. as for the words slurring Lyme's Infection can cause you to have poor speech, pronunciation. I've even lately seem have what I call word dyslexia where for example instead of saying heated seat I said seated heat. I never get "messed up" from my meds. I'm a responsible person.

I told my father last night that he hurts me and is mean to me and all he said was no I'm not. I said you always raise your voice and never can talk in a nice way. I think my dad might be bi polar and he has anger issues.
 
Always great to have family contributing to an already difficult situation. In the case of your father he seems to just not understand and responds to your pain with anger. Frustrating I'm sure. I can relate a bit but in a different way. My mother is a medical transcriptionist and types for a PM doctor in Alaska where apparently they have a pretty big problem with pain med abuse. In turn my mom is always giving me crap about being on Norco and is constantly telling me that she thinks I'm dependent on the meds. Well duh! Anyone who's been on opioid pain medication for almost four years is going to.be physically dependent. She just doesn't differentiate the difference between dependence and addiction. Very frustrating and insulting.

As far as your dad (and please don't take this as an insult) it sounds like there's some co-dependence / enmeshment. Probably best to distance yourself from that as much as possible, especially when it's interfering with your medical care. I won't let my mom within a mile of my pain doc and I suggest you do the same with your dad.
 
dang if i get my dose increased i get a brand new script but oxy laws hereare nice and chilled. I can't get a repeat script on oxycontin but i can on pretty much all the benzos and weaker opies.
