Art burning man

i love the sun - and it certainly can get baking hot in brc - but most of my burning man adventures take place at night. problem solved!

brc beckons!

burning man 2026 starts on august 30th this year. i'm going for the 8th time.

i'm extra excited as i am going with a couple of tahoe friends who've been threatening to come for about a decade and they finally committed. we plan to arrive on sunday 30th august and leave on monday 7th september.

see you there?

How do people afford it?

I've known a few guys who've gone, but they're all tech-bros who have made far more than just low end six-figure incomes :(

when i was putting magicglasses camp, we had pretty significant expenses. 3 years that we attended, we threw a psytrance party in san francisco in the run up to burning to help cover camp costs. back in 1999-2002 we were able to get a great turnout and all the big camp costs - building the tunnel, making and building the dome, communal water, generator and gas, etc. - were covered by the income from the parties.

when i've gone solo - just me and my car and tent - my outlay has been maybe $1000 to $1500.

That's honestly not awful, these days. I don't know why I'm griping, I spent damn near two months salary on a vacation to Ireland. Good times are worth the money.

I think for me the big leap has been living so far away. I can't even drive to the West coast in one day, probably not even two. Renting a car for burning man? Meh.

i'm lucky - i live about 140 miles from the black rock desert so it's convenient for me.

when i lived in san francisco, we'd usually convoy in our rental truck and a car or two. the journey would take around 6 or 7 hours (not counting the wait to get in :) ).

my point is that having a bit of a road trip on the way to and from brc was all part and parcel of the event and it just added to the whole experience.

where do you live?
