Breaking Up With Your Favourite Band

Ya see, the musical sounds of punk rock have become quite distanced from my musical pallet.
You can only listen to three chord progressions for so long until it becomes over done.
 
I think for a lot of bands I used to be really into I could use the good old "it`s not you, it`s me" saying. I loved Tool when I was younger. But in the space between Lateralus and 10,000 Days my taste changed a bit. I didn`t even know that 10,000 Days had come out till I saw it on the shelves.
Same thing happened with Beck. I loved Beck the moment I heard Loser when I was 14. Odelay was awesome,so was Midnight Vultures. Sea Change had some good songs but after that? I didn`t keep up. I wish I had, but after getting into other stuff...well,there`s only so much time in the day to listen to every thing. Things get lost in the shuffle.
Some stuff does stand the test of time though. I started listening to Nine Inch Nails when I was 10 and I`m still a huge fan of Trent. And I`ve been rocking At the Drive-in and Thursday for 10 years straight.
I used to love Every Time I Die(and seeing as how they`re based out of Buffalo I would see them play shows all the time) but every album after Hot Damn! just got (imo) more and more crappy.

one day ( 2007 ) I turned up MTV to see if the pimp my ride is going on... there was playing some pop dnb tune with beach and ufo.I was thinking thats one of nicer commercial bullshits I heard in my life,I listened it to the end when I saw it.It was made by Pendulum,those people got me into dnb...


I didnt know what to do sooner... punch tv in rage? curl & cry? It was hard to believe that what I considered best underground producents changed their style from extremly complex,technicaly state of art audio engineers to emo wannabe rockstars.And that was nothing compared to what happened in next years...

notice how DJ Hornet from Pendulum is in absolute back of the photo even when he is one of original trio and their best dj,he got fat and dont have the looks to be in front becose it would not be cool for their new image.Also notice how rob swire dyed his goatee in black,I bet he done that with his pussy fur too :D

^ if they have changed their music, I totally understand, but if culture has change to where their music is now mainstream, isn't that a good thing???

to clarify- i totally understand people feeling like their favorite bands "sold out" and changed their style to sell more records, but once in a while a band doesn't change, but gets embraced anyways, and they are still making good music, they just might dress different and market themselves better now that they realized culture is buying what they are, does this make sense? I mean, fuck, if someone was going to pay me millions of dollars to play the music I've been playing and all I had to do was dye my hair black and wear tight pants, of course I would. I don't know many who wouldn't.
 
^ (in regards to Pendulum). I loved Hold Your Colour. I still think it's great. Everything they did after that was terrible. They didn't just become more popular, they started making different music.

And to the people who broke up with Radiohead. I'll just say that In Rainbows is one of my favourite Radiohead albums. And the new one isn't particularly special or groundbreaking, but it's a pleasant listen.
 
I never really broke up with Tool
I just sorta stopped listening to them all the time, never really got into any of Maynard's other bands

But I do still enjoy putting on a few of there tracks occasionally

I could never break up with Radiohead though
Best band in the world imo and only getting better

I'll stop listening to them for a month or so at a time but always find my way back to Kid A, HTTT, IR, Ok Computer, or Amnesiac.

What do you think of King of Limbs?

I wouldn't say they're "getting better" with that being their latest release. Pleasant listen, but not something that get's you the title of best band in the world.
 
I thought TKOL was good, definitely not like any of there other albums, not even Kid A

That's why I said imo though, I know people are going to disagree.
But they truly are the best band in the world to me

I mean every member is just about a multi instrumentalist
We even learned recently Phil could play the guitar and not just keep the beat :]

Thom sounds like an angel and makes you believe every word he sings
While Jonny is just a fucking slouched over genius who can also compose great classical music and movie scores

I can listen to anyone of the 5 albums I named with out skipping a song
That's rare with a lot of bands, especially these days
 
I broke up with the Cure around 2004 when they released their self-titled album. That was when I realized that the 50 year old fat man with hair-sprayed ghoulish hair and lipstick was simply a sweaty, tired, old, and mopey emo. The Cure's early 80s stuff was awesome, but Robert Smith really should have looked for a new approach to music when the 00s hit. But, he didn't.

Another break-up was with David Bowie, after I realized in '05 that he will never release 2. Outside, despite 1. Outside's existence. I still like Diamond Dogs, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), Lodger, and Station to Station though.

Oh I loves me some Low! No question about that. :) Warszawa and Subterraneans are awesome pieces (though certainly not as good as Crystal Japan :p, (Trent Reznor agrees, a la "A Warm Place")). But, Lodger is simply my favorite Bowie-Eno collaboration.
