Aussie pensioner volunteers to kill Nguyen
By Paul Jackson
03-11-2005
From: Northern Territory News

A NORTHERN Territory pensioner has applied for the job as Singapore's official hangman.
And Keith Sauerwald, 65, says he would have no qualms about executing convicted Australian drug trafficker Van Tuong Nguyen, who is waiting his fate in Singapore's Changi Prison.

"I hate drugs and I hate drug dealers," said Mr Sauerwald, who lives at Parap in Darwin.

"Nguyen has no right to live.

"He's been dealing in death and deserves to get what the law says in that country."

Mr Sauerwald has written to the Singapore High Commissioner in Canberra applying for the hangman's position.

Nguyen, 25, of Melbourne, is due to be executed after being caught with 396g of heroin strapped to his body and in his hand luggage at Singapore's Changi Airport in 2002.

The Australian Government and Opposition have joined forces to request a stay of execution for the Australian.

Singapore's chief executioner Darshan Singh is a 73-year-old grandfather who wants to retire but he can't because the government can't find a replacement.

Mr Singh has hanged more than 850 prisoners in 46 years.

In his application for the job, Mr Sauerwald said he would have no qualms in releasing the trapdoor and putting to death any person - male or female, Australian or otherwise - who had been sentenced to death in Singapore.

He said he felt ashamed to be an Australian because so many fellow Australians are involved in the illicit drug trade, not only in Asian countries but worldwide.

"I also feel very ashamed to be an Australian knowing that our Prime Minister, and his fellow administrators of the Australian Government, refuse to admit that drugs are a big problem, not only in Australia but worldwide.

"Contrary to what our politicians are saying, I strongly believe that your country is doing the right thing in your control of the drug problem.

"I applaud the Singapore Government's action and your strong stand in your fight against the drug factions in our society."

Mr Sauerwald said Australia was full of do-gooders and bleeding hearts when it came to people being caught with drugs.

after a quick google search it appears more than likely that Sauerwald is the same Sauerwald featured in the below article, inclining me to think he is more thirsty for extending his 15 minutes of fame than thirsty for blood. hmmm, maybe both.
UFOs on Film are for real
Article in Northern Territory Newspaper
03 Jun 2000
By Edwin Edlud

A Darwin man has captured on film unidentified flying objects
flying over Darwin last month. Nightcliff resident Keith Sauerwald said yesterday he saw 11 orange glowing objects flying across the sky in arrow formation
on May 18th. Mr. Sauerwald comments come after Nightcliff
resident Warren Brown and his family reported seeing six orange
lights in the sky on May 20th.

Both incidents occurred about 11.00pm. Mr. Sauerwald 61, is
convinced the objects are not known to humans. He said:

"Anybody with half a brain has got to admit we are not the only
planet with life and these objects were round and flat and
flying in an arrow formation toward the Arafura Sea."

"When they were flying over I got caught up in the excitement of
it but I got my camera just in time to get a photo of the last
three."

"They were gliding over head in absolute silence and there was
no jet exhaust or vapour in the air. If this other guy saw them
the other nightthen obviously they must have flown over twice
and I am sure many more people out there must have seen them but
are to shy to say anything."

SPACECRAFT

"Just because they are UFOs doesn't necessarily mean they are
alien spacecraft, it just means it is not known to the RAAF and
something they turn a blind eye to." When contacted last week
after Mr. Brown's story, an air traffic controller said no one
has seen any UFOs on their radar. The Police spokeswoman said no
one had contacted them about UFOs.

i'm going to send my cv to media watch ;) actually, seeing it's just a hunch and unconfirmed, perhaps today tonight would be a better choice. =D

^^^
that's the most pathetic, unintelligent shot at me/ joke ever. if you could bet on which poster in this thread loves today tonight more than any other, the bookies would have keystroke and yourself down as favourites and i'd end up being scratched.

Truth that.

-plaz out-

Such truth he speaks...doesnt bother collaborating things like "evidence", compares two news stories based purely on assumption...and i'm the one who watches today tonight?

Spare me 8)

"Hey! this guy is just as opinionated as I am...but he gets published in a paper. Well, obviously he must be doing it for attention!"

was it not i who poked fun at the fact it was unconfirmed? was i not just posting an article relevant to the topic? was i not just trying to poke fun at a person with an obvious dark side whom at 65 is still not aware of?

the age of the man in the earlier article fits with the one in the current based on dates. the suburbs although different are virtually right next to one another. oh yeah, i forgot, i mentioned it was a hunch and it was just an observation and opinion clearly not to be taken as fact.

spare me? why don't you just spare us? your presence on this website seems purely to find fault in everyone and everything whether you agree with them/it or not. you're an arrogant, smart-arsed prick and i, and i'm sure many others, don't need a clinical trial to be convinced of that.

i'm sure the above just got you hard eh?

SS you will always get dickheads like the guy you mentioned in the article and guys like KB who really just hate people...these people just have no compassion for human life...no empathy and no rationale off thought, they talk before they think and b4 you know it they are stuck up shit creek...They are usually the opionated ones that like to buck the thinking and provide a shock factor to everyones thinking....why? because they think it is cool to make fun off things, provide an ego boost from someone elses misfortune and from the comfort off home laugh at what is a very sad situation.

KB will make a joke at his own mums funeral just to let everyone know he is there, and proby compare it too a Darwin award. Then he wonders why everyone thinks hes a dick and tries to justify his insensitivity and by saying some other shit that further justifies that what he is saying really is childish and the chatter off a fool

At least the guy in the article states that he dislikes drugs and drug pushers..fair enough....but KB here is a drug user who hates drug pushers and wants them executed...not for a strong belief off drugs are bad but because he was 'dumb' enough to go to a country where drug smugglers will be hung...thats not a reason driven by a belief in something, but driven by a cruel thoughtless individual.

why should he be treated differently? why should we give him a 2nd chance?

All traffickers should know and had been warned of the death penalty before they try their luck and risk it. So there's no reason to let him off.
On every Singapore Airlines flight into Singapore, there's an announcement of the severe penalty for drug trafficking, it is also highlighted in BOLD RED on the imigration arrival forms..

So, should someone decides to take the risk.. well dun get caught!!. If you;re smart, take the risk somewhere else..
Once caught, you're dead! I support the death sentence IMHO.

I bet you got all smug with yourself "ha! i showed him", but in truth, no, i could care less as to what you think of me :)

As for the "he doesnt care about the human race" argument, know that i actually support Amnesty International which go out of their way to prevent crimes against humanity, and while i dont agree with their particular stance on this issue, at the end of the day, I at the very least do something to help others who face real injustices, and not just the ones that get prime time media coverage 8)

So, in comparison, (and I am working off the assumption that you dont support them, and as such, correct me where im mistaken), i do more than just bitch about injustices on a message board - can you say the same?

In closing, bite me :)

I've been a member of Amnesty for eight years and write letters for the Urgent Action Network.

Amnesty International's overarching vision is to defend the rights described in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Article 2 states about the domain of those human rights;
Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs

...and Article 3 states;
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

...and Article 5 states;
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

The entire point of having human rights is that they are;
  • Universal; they apply regardless of international boundaries
  • Inalienable; no person, corporation, organization, or even government can deprive another person of his or her rights.

There is no doubt that the most fundamental of these is the right to life.

Amnesty's stance on Van Tuong Nguyen is not some spur-of-the-moment policy they made up. It's based on the fundamental principles upon which the organisation is built; that capital punishment is cruel and degrading and that governments cannot use sovereignty as an excuse to violate human rights.

If you can't agree with the above, I'm not sure what it is you support about Amnesty International?

If you do agree with the above, I'm not sure how you can justify sovereignty or stupidity as a reason to violate Nguyen's human rights.

Im aware that this isnt a "new policy" for them, but knowingly putting yourself in such a stupid predictament is different to being borne into one.

I think they should be spending their funds on a more worthy cause.

it may shock you but it saddened me to post what i felt i had to and i'm quite aware you don't care what i think of you.

i am actually in the process of joining several organizations including a political party although i don't really have the funds to do so now or in the past. if i was in the position to hand out leaflets etc i would, at the moment due to illness i am unable to. bringing peoples attention to various issues via internet forums may be a small contribution but it's a contribution nonetheless. do i have to become a mercenary to show i'm not apathetic?

on the prime time thing, i was aware of and bitching about the treatment of women under the taliban long before planes crashed into buildings. i was following the coup attempt on hugo chavez long before today's anti-globalization demonstrations. my postings in the tv thread should indicate i am following more than what makes the front page of our newspapers or included in the commercial network's daily newstainment programs.

bite you? my mouth is open wide and waiting ;)

^^ great, you've turned one man's plight into a contest about 'who cares more about issues they will never have the power to change'.

imagine five people in a sinking boat.

instead of mending the gap, all anyone seems to do on this message board is 'inform' the others that 'yes, the ship is sinking, but "trust me", i'm more aware of it than the other. i knew this ship was sinking 10 mins ago, whereas he just finally felt his feet getting wet'

you KNOW there is a problem
this won't be fixed
this man will die
it serves him right

Listen Sunshine, im going to repeat to you a saying that by the looks of things you havent heard "bad things happen when good people do nothing".

So until you actually put money where your mouth is, kindly stop posting - because now you reek of hypocrisy. You dont even have to donate much at all, for the price of one of your 'soy decaf lattes' a week, you too can help out. I mean, i dont give much at all in comparison - but at least i do 8)

"I can hand out flyers!!"

very good. they can train monkeys to do that as well 8)
