bodybuilding & use of ecstasy

I see no reason to believe that taking MDMA would inherently cause significant losses of muscle. Sure, it's a strain on your system, revving up the metabolism, releasing stress hormones, working the muscles, building up lactic acid....kind of like, oh, going to the gym. :-)

The worst part about MDMA for athletes is probably the disruption of diet and training. You usually aren't eating while partying, aren't eating when coming down, and aren't eating much the next day or so. And, there is a certain disruption of the nervous system from MDMA; it seems possible (though purely speculative) that downregulation of receptors on muscle/nerve fibers could actually reduce your ability to fully recruit muscle fiber contraction in the days to weeks after use.

At any rate, no, partying hard isn't good for an intensively training athlete. It's not terrible good for anybody, really. :-) But...it's certainly not going to burn off pounds of muscle at a time under any sort of normal circumstances.

I agree with the disruption of diet and training for the fullest! Plus for guys that are hitting the gym loading on BACC's, glutamine (anti-catabolic) supplements will help. I also try and have a protein shake during my roll now yes it sucks but helps. Next day I just feel flat but not like I lose much muscle.

To many people (not saying anybody in this post) are more worried about there mood and not there body.

I initially started my slowdown for mood regularity, but then once I saw that weight loss occurred...that gave me a another strong reason.

pumped, yes protein shakes are key with a variety of drugs but any stimulant in particular and its a must. I personally do not find them to be bad tasting and am more than happy to know I am getting a balanced serving of key repair precurrsors for my body.

If you are not eating properly before and after a roll then you have no business in the gym. We spend hours a day training, more preparing and selecting nutritious meals, and yet more researching out sport or preparing our minds for training. Is it really that big of a deal to take a few minutes to force yourself to eat while high!!?

Now I can say this for sure as a swimmer but not a particularly heavy lifter: MDMA will affect you for at least a week! I notice that in the pool my internal temperature regulation is not what it should be. Its quite obvious the first week and slowly returns to normal several weeks afterward. There is also the fatigue issue. Any drug that disrupts the balance of seratonin surely has negative impacts on athletic performance. It is just such an important regulatory neurotransmitter that you would be foolish to think its harm free to tinker with it.

I do not know if MDMA causes catabolism but it would logical to assume so since to my knowledge all CNS stimulants do (I stress my knowledge, I am neither a body builder or doctor). The bottom line is that even if you do not lose muscle mass while rolling you are playing catch up for many days afterward just to get your training back on track to the day before your roll. All the time spent recovering back to maximum training potential is counted as a loss in my book.

EDIT: for the record, I keep meticulous count of my body weight (usually multiple times per day). I only weigh between 115 and 120 yet I lost 7 lbs in one night rolling. I did not use excessively and I am now done with drugs for the sake of being an athlete. Its a contradictory lifestyle and you basically have to chose one or the other to really excell.

99% of weight loss after a night of partying is due to water loss. You should return to your normal weight within a day or 2.
