Bluelight weekly photography contest Round 153 : Shadows

Well I happen to be one of "they" & the general consensus was not to allow it because you said yourself "not really a photo... a photogram created using SHADOWS and time in the darkroom".

There's nothing wrong with scanning a photograph as this would be a ridiculously unfair way to conduct the contest, however we are talking about a photograph competition not a photogram competition.

As much as I like to be introduced to different forms of image processing, all we are asking is for a simple point & click photograph (preferably for the given subject!) with any camera settings you want, but leave out the photoshop doctoring.

I'm sure I speak on behalf of vibby & n3o by saying the last thing we want to do is disallow entries on a daft technicality, but surely that fact it isn't an actual photograph is reason enough :\

That is perfectly reasonable-- the fact that it isn't technically a photo. What Neo obviously didn't make clear was the fact that photograms are not allowed--not scans.

Sure, and it appears I've just used the incorrect terminology in the reasoning for not allowing the entry.
Changed's entry is a photogram, it was created using a piece of photographic paper with objects of different opacity placed on top, and light shone down from above in order to create the shadowing on the developed photographic paper (or perhaps it was done this way using digital media). It wasn't taken with a camera.

Should this be allowed?

It doesn't really matter because I've allowed the entry anyway. The photo contests are a fun, light-hearted way for us to share our work with our peers. There are rules in place which we try to uphold, in order to keep everything as fair as possible. But ultimately this is about fun, and if anyone starts to feel that they are being unfairly treated I am going to try to rectify that.

If it was only a mix-up of terms, that is fine. I thought it came down to it being a scan. I guess I could see where you are coming from with "photogram" = "scan."

But yeah, I made it with an enlarger and photographic paper, not Photoshop. If it was done in Photoshop, there is no way I'd even think of submitting it. It just seems that the Shadows theme works perfectly for the entry, so I submitted it.

If it is any consolation, I doubt I'll win anyway.

Thanks for understanding mate :)
Basically, this is all just a bit of fun, so as long as everyone's happy and enjoying it, to me that's the main thing.
