Tell me that isn't a witch on a broom, it was a naturally occurring shadow that only lasted a few seconds, I caught it.

Jury says it ain't allowed mate. We've had scanned entries which we haven't allowed in the past so we can't allow this either.

Quite a few of my previous entries have been scans of photos I took before I had a digital camera. I think that disallowing all scanned entries would really be unfair to those that don't have a digital camera or people that want to use pictures that they've shot in the past.

Don't worry about it-- this is just another attempt to disallow my work from winning.

Film has never not been allowed in the past. I've won with film scans in the past. I don't really see how "They" can even say that scans aren't allowed. At least come up with a better reason for not allowing me to submit.

Well I happen to be one of "they" & the general consensus was not to allow it because you said yourself "not really a photo... a photogram created using SHADOWS and time in the darkroom".

There's nothing wrong with scanning a photograph as this would be a ridiculously unfair way to conduct the contest, however we are talking about a photograph competition not a photogram competition.

As much as I like to be introduced to different forms of image processing, all we are asking is for a simple point & click photograph (preferably for the given subject!) with any camera settings you want, but leave out the photoshop doctoring.

I'm sure I speak on behalf of vibby & n3o by saying the last thing we want to do is disallow entries on a daft technicality, but surely that fact it isn't an actual photograph is reason enough :\

That is absolutely not the case, I'm sorry you've interpreted the situation like that. I'll PM you for further discussion.

Sure, and it appears I've just used the incorrect terminology in the reasoning for not allowing the entry.
Changed's entry is a photogram, it was created using a piece of photographic paper with objects of different opacity placed on top, and light shone down from above in order to create the shadowing on the developed photographic paper (or perhaps it was done this way using digital media). It wasn't taken with a camera.

Should this be allowed?

It doesn't really matter because I've allowed the entry anyway. The photo contests are a fun, light-hearted way for us to share our work with our peers. There are rules in place which we try to uphold, in order to keep everything as fair as possible. But ultimately this is about fun, and if anyone starts to feel that they are being unfairly treated I am going to try to rectify that.
