@kingpin007 - I work offshore in a very 'pious' region and just tried accessing the two proxy url's you posted #112). They're blocked, as are several others I have tried. I can't even access online news articles containing certain 'sensitive' words no matter what context they are mentioned in. I'm no pedo and don't download smut, which is largely what my host country is trying to stop, but let me assure posters that whatever filter is adopted in Oz could extrapolate to ridiculous extremes just as it does here and make even reading the news an embuggerance.

Unless you got too deeply involved in one of those Nigerian scams... has anyone ever checked ut that 419scammer site where he tricks them into doing stuff? And he sent people to meet one of the scammers once? That was funny.
 
This seriously fucking depresses me. As someone who's worked in the IT industry for years (not that you ever need to given how retarded his statement is) this really is beyong a fucking joke. What ever happened to political ministers even having a remote knowledge of their profile, especially when its something as complicated and in-depth as Telecommunication.

With shit like this happening I'm seriously considering either changing careers or moving out of Australia. Politics is so right wing and ludicrous in thie country. It sickens me. And here I was thinking Krudd would bring in some decent legislation....

Keating IMO is the best ever labor politician. Much better treasurer then pm tho.
This filter is such a disgrace tho. Wonder how much support it has amongst the general public, must be reasonable for labor to adopt it (or a family lobby group must b donating hardcore)

ETA: I am considering voting Liberal because I don't like how the Government sends the AFP over to Israel to run over pedestrians, that is not good foreign policy. :D
 
Have the liberals openly opposed the filter? I haven't heard much bout it which is interesting because it's an easy way to win the support of alot of young people which is an age bracket the liberals traditionally struggle to attract. I fear this may be cause they kinda think the filter isn't such a bad idea.

In all honesty I can see the Internet eventually being filtered. Governments hate not controlling information and as more and more Internet crime occurs the push will get stronger.
