Blue Lotus

its psychoactive and about as psychedelic as a good bowl of weed (although not as introspective or thought-provoking)

in my opinion.

ive used white zinfandel, but try white merlot as well. whites or blushes are needes since the lotus will make the wine quite bitter after a couple days

Reds were used traditionally but white is nice as well. It really does not taste all that bad but certainly do not waste a great bottle of wine making it. Table wine is fine.

^Yeah, I don't mind the flavour, but it ruins a good wine. Personlly, I'd infuse it in vodka and drink when nice and colourful. Small quanitity and better extraction....

ya'll, i mean ya'll

this is a hallucinogen

anyways I want to know more about combining it with an maoi, because terence mckenna spoke about something about these water plants having ayahuasca like effects

I have never been able to get anything from blue lotus, by itself or in combination with kratom, or in combination with marijuana. I have used the plain petals as well as resin extracts, all with the same results. I'm not so arrogant as to believe that everyone who does get something is the victim of placebo, however.

Blue lotus does not have hallucinogenic effects as far as I'm aware... it's more of a light narcotic effect if anything. If anyone has any experiences to the contrary I would love to hear them.

Some years ago I bought about a pound of this stuff and tried it out maybe 5-10 times. I experienced some effects, but I still think its somewhat questionable whether this plant is active or not. At most, I experienced a +.

It has a nice fragrance though. I tried smoking it also, taste was pleasant. The only application I could find for it was as a tobacco substitute when mixing with cannabis.

So, I have a smallish bag, about 12 grams of blue lotus stamens that have been sitting around for a while. I'm interested in trying it with wine. How many doses is this? What kind of ratio of wine to stamens should I use so they compliment each other well?

^I put about 15 grams of petals in a bottle of white and left it for about 2 weeks....effects are defintely more then just alchohol.

Cool, thanks swillow.

Does anyone have any experience with the stamens? I hear they're supposed to be more potent than the petals. IDK though.

^Interesting that you've just got stamens, usually I just get whole flowers/petals. So I can't help you; though I've tried a nice lotus 10X extract; when a capsule was swallowed with alchohol, goodness ensued..Start with a lowish dose- ie. standard tea-bag size, about 2 grams worth, and see how it feels. Unfortunately, with enthnobotanicals of such a varied nature, the only thing you can do is experiment rather blindly :\ :)

Incidentally, lotus doesn't contain apomorphine (as Blowmonkey wrote) but aporphine and nuciferine.

I think they're from Nelumbo nucifera. I think I might just mix it all with a bottle of wine and drink it slowly with a lady friend and see how it works out. I'd hate to make some and discover that I didn't take enough. It would be a waste. And if I don't need it all, i'm sure it will keep.
