(Blood stool) I'm scared to go sleep but I don't know whether to go to the hospital

I'm a 22 year old male who only took MDMA on a couple of occasions, prior to one month ago. I was at a festival on October 26th and dropped 3 pills; I didn't test the pills, but they were highly rated on my country's ''pill-report'', and came with no warning. So yeah, I dropped 3 altogether and double dropped 2 at the one time - far too much for an inexperienced pill taker. Two weeks later I had a line of Ketamine and a tiny dip of MDMA powder - the Ket had me buzzing but the MDMA didn't do much. On Saturday night (two weeks after the Ket and MDMA) I was out, and myself and my friend split an e tablet. We haven't a clue what was in it, just a complete impulse buy. Stupid, I know, but that's what happened. I was pretty loaded on alcohol already, and then I dropped half of that e tablet. It had a nice effect in general, although I was quite tired by the end of the night.

Any ways, Sunday was just a slog of a day; nothing happened, I just felt de-motivated. I went to bed that night, and I had a major anxiety/panic attack. I have been having a few of them lately. I thought it was a heart attack however, so I rushed to the hospital beside me. The nurse managed to calm me down; I got tested in a variety of ways and no sign of heart damage or disease showed up. The doctor and nurse advised me to take it easy for a while, but I felt like a right twat more than anything, to be honest! So I came home this evening (Monday 4.30 pm my time) and I tried to go to sleep as I hadn't been asleep since 12.30am on Sunday. The depression was hitting me hard and the lights in my room became pure trippy and visual-like. I couldn't settle at all, so I got up and told my demise to my house-mates. To be honest I was feeling like absolute shit at this stage, between the tiredness and just general edginess. I then had to go to the toilet, and what I noticed in my 'poo' was a Blood stool. It didn't just look like blood that came out with the poo, it looked like a solid piece of poo with blood on it. I came outside and chilled for an hour, and I've been feeling generally alright for the last 4 hours. Not perfect, but definitely content....

However, I'm really curious as to whether I should make a panic trip to the hospital again. I've read that a blood stool can often be the sign of internal bleeding, and there was a case where a young UK ecstasy user fell victim to some thing called ''Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm'' - one of the main symptoms of this is the appearance of a blood stool. I have Inflammatory bowel disease (the doctors never really verified if it was colitis or chrons), and blood in poo tends to be a feature of it. Nevertheless, I have had my IBD under control with medication for the past 2 and half years. Either way, I'm seriously considering going to the hospital again....

I'm just here in my bed now, not having been to sleep for 36 hours. I just feel there is indeed a possibility that I will go to bed tonight and not wake up. I was on the phone to my mother there, and I was even tempted to just ask her opinion, even if it means admitting to my mother that I do E. But I really don't know if it makes sense to go the hospital. This morning it was the heart, now it's the possibility of internal bleeding. If I develop another symptom tomorrow, will I have another excuse to go to them? Just reading about ''Abdominal Aorctic Aneurysm'' really irked me though, as it can happen very suddenly, and it is infamous for not having any obvious symptoms - bar, perhaps, the Blood stool one.

Nothing disturbs me more than the thought of my eyes going shut now and never opening again. But I'd just like to hear your guys thoughts as well!

If the blood was black, dark or "unfresh", or clothed - then go to the hospital/doctor.

If it's fresh blood, you don't have to worry. But if it continues you could go see your doctor. Probably isn't related to your MDMA use however, so relax. These kinds of things are really normal to experience once in a while.

Thanks for the reply. I went to the toilet twice this evening: The first time was when the 'blood stool' appeared (alongside 4 or 5 other regular stools). The 2nd time I went there was no blood stool, just 4 or 5 really tiny stools. Sorry for the explicit detail, but I'm just trying to make the best judgement here.

That one Blood stool did fall into that category of 'black, dark, fresh, or unclothed' though.

Don't search for health problems on the internet. If it's fresh blood then it's probably just piles. If an AAA ruptured & bled then you'd be dead within a few minutes & you'd be in serious pain, not sure you'd have time to notice blood in your stool, so it's probably not that. If it's clotted black blood then that could be internal bleeding, but AAA seems to be one of the unlikeliest causes, especially if you're under 65 have no family history of it & still here to read this. People would be dropping like flies if a few doses of MDMA caused AAA.

Main symptom of a ruptured AAA is lower back pain shortly followed by death. Most cases of AAA are asymptomatic until they rupture.

It's worth getting it checked out though, see your doctor about it at some convenient time, it's a symptom of a few other serious diseases including bowel cancer, but most likely it's related to your IBS & isn't likely to kill you tonight even if it is cancer. It's a fairly common symptom of IBS or colitis. It's a good enough reason to see a normal doctor, especially if you don't have regular screening for bowel cancer, but not usually a rushing into hospital emergency.

As I recall now actually, I'm pretty sure the blood was red. It was still pretty thick though.

But yeah, you're right in many ways - if it was internal bleeding, then surely I'd be in far worse shape by now. I think the feasible solution is to just get it checked out tomorrow.

If it's red blood then it's probably piles or some small cut/tear near your anus. It's no problem. Might not even be blood, did you eat anything red? Scared myself a bit this morning until I remembered I ate a load of beetroot last night.

If it's black congealed blood then it could be a symptom of internal bleeding & you need to see a doctor about it sometime, but it's probably not worthy of an emergency ambulance to hospital. You should be getting a colonoscopy to check for cancer if you have colitis anyway.

I ate a cheese pizza on Sunday night and a panini on Monday afternoon, both are colourful I suppose but I wouldn't call them 'red' in such.

Yeah I think it makes sense to see a doctor tomorrow for sure. I've been feeling fine for the past few hours; I just hope the nefarious aspects of the hangover don't return when I'm asleep. They more than likely won't given my current form and mood.

Occasionally I'll bleed when I go to the bathroom. What you have to look out for is stool that is releasing dark blood into the water. That's when it's time to see a doctor. So like it's coming off of the feces itself rather than drips that are separate. It's gross to think about but there are many harmless things that cause blood in the stool and its all about the color of it. The brighter it is, the less likely it is to be dangerous.

I'm with everyone on this - don't stress mate, [bloody] shit happens :P if it persists or is as described above, then be concerned....otherwise just chill :)

So I went to sleep last night, and I'm still alive :D. I feel pretty good today but I guess I just have to get some routine in order - eat healthy, exercise, study etc - to ensure it was just a really bad comedown. I'll go to the doctor if a bloody stool appears again, but it doesn't make any sense for me to go in today.

Word of advice for anyone: If you have went 40 hours without sleep, don't expect to fall asleep the moment you hit the bed. That was me yesterday, and the first 2 hours actually feels as if you have to train your mind to learn how to sleep again. It's as if your mind refuses to sleep and you have to figure out how to make it sleep; pretty scary at the time actually, but eventually did fall asleep 2 hours later.

Blood in the stool should not be ignored and the color of the blood shouldn't be used as an indicator to how dangerous it could be (its simply an indicator as to where the problem is). Bright red blood 'on' stools is an indication of something wrong with the lower end of the digestive track / colon, where as dark red blood 'in' the stool indicates a problem higher up (say an stomach ulcer).

When people have been using drugs that can mess up their eating pattern or hydration level then this can change the amount of water your body has to spare on making a stool that's easy to pass. Extra straining or very hard stools can cause small fissures or tears which can lead to bright red blood being present. If its a one off then its 'probably' nothing but if it continues you should really have it checked out.
