Bloc Roll Call!!!

Just got home. Fuck Bloc.

Did anyone make it to the Plex party? They ended up only having 500 capacity. Luckily we found out that the queue was massive well before reaching Peckham. Switched up trains & went to Farringdon for Fabric, which was decent but not exactly what I was wanting out of the weekend - Losing a bag of pills on the way in didn't help, my mates had spare ones tho so it wasn't a total disaster.

That fucking attempt at a festival was a total disaster right enough. Fucking useless cunts. I've never seen anything so badly managed. My theory being that they sold out the capacity of the full area, not taking into account the fact that all the music was being played either in fully enclosed tents or inside the boat & that half of the area had nothing in it other than a bar so everyone was crammed into the half that had music on - only to have to queue like fuck to try & hear some tunes. There was not a hope in hell of getting on the Stubnitz, the queue for the main tent was pretty horrendous as well. I was cutting about with a production staff wrist band on but that didn't help at all - the security had no clue about anything, apparently a lot of them had been hired only days before & had no previous experience. Can't blame them though, they were doing the best they could with what seemed like no guidance/management & a massive shortage of staff.

Getting in the festival was a nightmare in the first place, queue took forever because they seemed to be searching everyone & using one sniffer dog to try & check every single person. By the time we got to the front the dog was still there but they appeared to have totally gave up searching anyone. I accidentally smacked the dog in the head with my knee, still feel a bit bad about that, it was a genuine accident though, the wee cunt shouldn't have been sniffing at me lol.

I could continue for ages but I'll leave it the now. Only other thing to add just now is that the police are claiming there was no problem at all with overcrowding & the issue was due to people trying to get in the tents to shelter from the rain. This is a total lie. 1 - IT WASN'T RAINING! 2 - Folk were obviously trying to get in the tents as that was the only way to hear the music that we'd paid £100 for, who the fuck goes to a festival just to hang about next to a burger van? Rumours that the police won't lay any sort of blame on the venue as it's an Olympic site. The venue is unfinished & badly laid out.

One positive thing - The crowd were incredibly calm. We were next to the main tent when they shut it down & thought there was going to be a full scale riot, then they shut down the full festival we thought it was definitely going to kick off but I didn't see one bit of bother, just a lot of sad/confused faces & a team of cunts banging on the metal containers (Knock - was that you? Haha).

Cheers to Kappa & Sam for getting a hold of me with details of the Plex party - I already knew about it but it's the thought that counts lol.

(I'll probably add another rant as long as that one when I wake up after much needed snooze. I've only slept once since Thursday morning - on the Friday after Bloc fucked it)

Oh and... Fuck Bloc!!!!

Mattnotrik - What did you end up doing on Saturday? Fabric? (I saw him outside on Friday at the end looking more than a bit sparkled =D).

You bastard! "Searches" were definitely token, to the security's credit, they were using metal detectors which is good but I didn't see anyone getting a cavity search. The dog looked pretty uninterested in everyone when we got through at about 7:30.

Are they really saying that? Pack of lies, it didn't rain at all from when we started queueing just before 7pm till sometime the next day! I tell you, it all points to a deliberate scam! ;)

Totally true. And yes of course that was me! Did you see the guys up on top of the containers dancing about? Was the best entertainment of the night, really!

PS Sucks you went to such expense for such a washout.

I wasn't in the best of moods when the container banging was going on. If you heard an angry Scottish voice shouting something along the lines of "Aye that'll fucking teach them! Batter on a bit of metal boys, that will sort everything out! Fucking wrap it!!!" - that was me. I was a proper pissed off cunt at that point, I definitely hurled some totally unnecessary abuse at quite a few people during the walk back.

We were in just before then I think, as I said they seemed to have given up searching anyone. When we were further back in the queue they looked to be searching everyone & were thoroughly emptying people's bags etc. My mate walked right in with a fairly large bag that could have had fucking anything in it & no-one attempted to search him, no-one was giving a fuck by then. One of my mates was working so came a few hours later, by that point folk were just charging in. No tickets were being checked & no wristbands were being given out (they ran out of them anyway & earlier were even giving 2 day passes to folk with one day tickets because they ran out of day passes). Then they shut the main gates & left thousands of people with tickets stuck outside.

I still had a good weekend tbh man, so it wasn't a complete write-off.

Yeah it was a complete disaster, I dont kow how in this day and age they have such a monumental fuck up, basically the crowdsurge team said the ticket scanners werent working, so they just took off peoples tickets and ripped them up and gav them a wristband, I think this got about and I heard one lad saying hes got about 20 of his mates in on a photocoped ticket, anyway they actaully ran out of wristbands after overselling and the staff basically just started letting people in whatever. Anyway after being like stuck in a que for 2hours + and not actually moving an inche about 50 people just started pushing down the fences and id say about almost 1000+ people just started swarming in and the security doing nothing about it. The sound quality in the tents was fucking shocking, then once in there every single area had some like 30 minute que so people just started going in regardless, some mad cunt jumped off the stubnitz aswell. @ all the articles, even if everyone was "hiding" under tents, wasnt that surely the point.... every single arena was in a huge tent so where else where people going to go, also Im not sure why they had about 2 bars to every 200 hot dog and chocolate stallls??? :S

I didnt have such a bad weekend considering, went to a load of afterpartys on friday after we got turfed out then stayed up and ended up going fabric and a few random afterparty places, cant remember the names.

The police shouting about everyone wanting to go inside because it was raining is uttber bullshit, there was no rain at all, saying that though it had the potential to be a really good festival, the money theyve spent on that place is really nice, saw the mad cunts jumping about on them containers, yeah everyone was pretty much just dazed and confused about what was happening, no need for a load of police horses though, DOOM was good and nice to see you PTC of course !

Just read an article aswell about a link on the crowdsurge website that was circulating a few weeks before that took you to a direct block ticket page on the website, basically you could edit the number and print it however many times you wanted and it would still scan as a new ticket.

Aye, I've seen that link.

Crowdsurge are a joke but Bloc & London Pleasure Gardens are to blame as well. The venue could have been good but it wasn't really fit for purpose the way it was set up at the weekend & a lot of it was unfinished. The Resident Advisor tent was supposed to be the Hub stage from Glastonbury but fully covered & all projector mapped for visuals inside. It was just a normal tent. Apparently the Hub stage wasn't ready in time so they had to put up a smaller RA tent. The whole side of the venue that had the Ableton bar & nothing else was ridiculous, so much empty space & absolutely no reason for anyone to go over there. They'd also made it look from the videos as though the actual Millenium Mills building was one of the stages, this was just used to project visuals onto, you couldn't go near it.

Basically it seemed like they'd cut a lot of corners to save money, likely to pay for what was probably an over-ambitious line-up. The sound wasn't up to scratch, there wasn't enough staff or enough bars. The place had no sort of visual "look" at all, I would have expected the whole site to have something more of a theme & be decorated better (I know that sounds a bit daft but you would expect that from something of this scale). It was incredibly badly planned.

Now, just to wait on my refund... and wait... and wait...

Edit - Guy jumping off the boat!! Wild! We'd heard a rumour about that but thought it wasn't true.

Aye, spotted that earlier man. Can't say I'm surprised.

Did you pay for tickets with a credit card? If you did you should be able to claim the money from your bank. My mate booked ours, he's trying to get that sorted just now. I don't know how much luck he's having though.

CrowdSurge released a statement earlier. I'm not sure how much of it to believe.

http://www.factmag.com/2012/07/11/bloc-weekend-ticketers-crowdsurge-now-make-statement/

Ah well just got onto Natwest the guy said hes had loads of calls and hes sending me a chargeback form, said the money should be returned when its returned with ticket and evidence of purchase

Indeed. The promoters could have entertained a happy crowd throwing a great party while making an heftly profit, and see what happens. I've seen a post on the Bloc 2012 FB page, a couple has spent 1,200 euro (a grand, basically...) in flights, accomodation, transport expenses and tickets for... nothing. Of course there are much worst things, but still!
I know it's not fair to judge, but the general feeling is that the whole operation was in the hands of people with hardly any experience in organising large-scale events.

I had the displeasure of working with some of the people involved, and they were a bunch of amatuers. Very visionary in their plans for the event, but when it came down to details like access and money, they really didn't have a clue. We steered clear of them and boy, are we glad we did!

I remember reading an article posted a few weeks prior to the event, will have to dig it up somewhere. It was titled so what exactly does the day in a life of a bloc team member do? The reply was something along the lines of "Oh well we go for a stroll along the river, have a bicker about money, go to the pub maybe, have a chat about music, then maybe another stroll, then maybe another argument about money, then probally back to the pub y'know nothing much really".

To be honest, although they are amateurs for failing, I am extremely surprised they got all the necessary licensing to throw such an event. Some friends of mine tried to throw a festival and got totally stalled up by threats of an unlimited fine if the noise became too loud for local residents 8( I've also heard that it's standard procedure for many people who throw festivals to go into administration directly after the festival to dick over every single person they can by not paying them. Many artists end up getting jipped a few times over the summer.

Newham council are desperate to get some money back from the £3m loan they got out, they needed such events, thats why it happened. They said they couldn't wait for it to be officially finished at the end of july, yet at the start of july they where hosting a festival to 15,000 people, fucking dust and half finished construction everywhere? The council need to take some responsability, but nothings allowed to go wrong at the Olympics !

My mate got his money back instantly anyway, hope mines on the way. I heard really good things about them when they where at butlins, everyone staying in chalets I think it would have been a right good party, oh well.

This event sounded amazing almost to good to be True .
The Old Cliche struck again .
If something sounds to good to be TRue - It usually is

yeah those visionary type are dangerous with money.

When Universe did it's last few huge parties in the mid 90s they still kept their word despite loosing £100,000s

Tribal Gathering then took over their parties were really good value for money . The line ups were amazing
