Has anyone else watched this documentary? They kind of follow around these H addicts on the streets of san fransisco. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. here's the link;

edit; Though I wouldn't recommend watching if you have recentley kicked an IV dope habit, I recentley made that mistake and man If I had access to skag in my new enviroment, it would be so ON.

yeah it was shot back in the mid 90's

the scene has not changed much in the tenderloin or the haight

SF is full of some hardcore tarheads even back then dope was only 60 bucks a gram now it is even cheaper

the damage that tar does to the body has not changed even if the price and quality have gotten better

allmost all of the junkies they showed had scabs and were out of viens

that was hardcore seeing them shoot dope in the neck fuckin hardcore

Saw this a long time ago, something to think about is that some of the well dressed people walking by in some scenes could have bigger heroin habits then the mentally unbalanced street dwellers.
 
It's really weird seeing people resort to prostitution, crime, and life on the streets to maintain a habit. Especially people that are so young. I mean, it's just the people I affiliate with, but we have all held down jobs, houses, bands, relationships and other 'normal' aspects of life, while maintaining dope habits. It just makes you wonder where habit can take you eventually.


One thing I don't understand is how some of them lived in apartments. How was that paid for? By prostitution? I know's tracey's mom was sending her money, but how did oreo and alice hold down pads? I was bummed it never mentioned that. Awesome documentary for sure though. I'm thinking about doing something similar, but focusing more on how heroin habits affect intimate relationships. once I move back to seattle.
 
I know the city (san fran) well but never noticed anyone on heroin. haha. There are too many weirdo's and bums out there to notice any one strange person nodding out. I've been all through the haight, castro, tenderloin areas and never thought about copping although lately I've wanted to do so many times, but this video actually disgusts me and makes me not want to even fuck around out there.
 
Yeah have seen this a couple of times, its scary to see how some people really get so messed up and sink down the drain.
Where i live you rarely see people in that condition how big addictions they even have.
Good documentary nevertheless.

It would be of interest if anyone here know what happened to all these people in this documentar Maybe personal knowledge or any website or movie that tells that tale.

And then im looking for more documentarys, mainly that involves heroin addiction - i would really appreciate if you could write (or PM) as many as you can think about or maybe link to another thread if im too offtopic!

There are a lot of state sponsered wellfare programs that offer free or nearly free housing if you meet certain criteria. Not to mention in most drug infested projects, you can find residence by squatting, or by turning on your landlord to free dope. There are even motels/apartments where you can pay weekly rent if necessary.

I remember seeing a thread on this a while back, UTSE and you should be able to find it. None the less, an updated thread w/ a links to streaming video on addiction would be great.

Bingo. Alpha answered it. There are also people that engage in illegal renting/subletting.

I'm glad I saw that. That type of thing reminds me again not to think about ever IVing drugs.

random thought: the filmmaker put himself in a lot of risk by being in such close company with drug users and drug dealers. If cops busted in on one of those rooms, I don't think "I'm just filming a documentary" would have gotten him out of anything. that's definitely respectable to risk so much for your art.
