Some rules about the poll.
1. As far as voting is concerned, it is not permissible to create any sort of thread to promote a book on this list. Someone might get the idea to create a thread in a high-traffic forum that asks people to vote for a certain book on the list, and links to this poll. This is really unfair to the other contestants and their selections, and it also promotes votes from people who will not be reading or discussing the book, and thus have no interest in the outcome of the poll.
If I find that anyone who has entered a book for voting has done this, their selection will be removed from the poll. If I find that someone has done this that has not entered a selection, I will remove votes for that selection. I may remove all votes, and let that selection start from zero after I have deleted the thread which promotes it, or I may remove whatever votes I believe to have been gained from the offending thread, but the ultimate decision will be made by me.
If you want to create a thread or make a post that links to the thread and poll in general, but that does not promote any book or books over any other book or books, that's fine, and even encouraged

.
2. Also, after this first book, I'll take note of who has participated. I'll also take note of who voted in the poll. If I find that there is a name that keeps appearing in the poll but not in the discussion, I will remove that person's vote unless I receive an assurance from them that they will begin participating and I see that they follow through and actually do.
I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want this poll to be fair so that we end up reading what the most people want to read. This isn't some sort of power trip. Believe me, I'd rather not have to take the trouble, it's just extra work for me

. But I want to see this happen and I want it to run well and be successful, because I think it can be a fun, interesting thing to do.
Thanks everyone for your interest. I can't wait to start reading whatever it is that we pick.
