Okay, I retract my statement about Sodium Citrate. My A Level Chemistry days have failed me.

so NO its not smack in the middle of the "antacid" dosage.
But your quote says "FOR ANTACID USE: 1-3 teaspoonsful with a little water, up to four times a day, or as directed by a doctor."
and you say "but when you take TWO TABLE SPOONS". Now, its either me, or Google is wrong, but 2 table spoons is 6 teaspoons.
Therefore, 6 teaspoons is actually
more than than the antacidd dose.
But what does that mean?
As soon as something that is vaguelly alkali (ie MoM) hits your stomach, it will neutralise some of the acid in your stomach. The "antacid effect" is "1~3 teaspoons". After that what occurs if you've consumed enough MoM that it manages to get past the initial stage of digestion and you not only neutralise some acid in your stomach, but you
ALSO initiate the laxitive effect on your body.
Consuming as much MoM as you did doesn't only have a laxative effect, it has the dual effect of neutralising some acid
AND causing a laxative effect. Hence, I would put your increased effect down to a combination of (but not including) :
reduced stomach pH
the laxative effect on the body
placebo
You claim it has no neutralising effect but plainly it does. I said "Its smack in the middle of the neutralsing dose" but I misread it. In fact, its far beyond the neutralising dose, which only adds fuel to my perspective.
I didn't flame you. If I thought this topic was beyond conversation I'd have closed it, because I'm a moderator. Instead I felt this topic had room for discussion which it has done.
