Early life
Fisher was born in Muscat, Oman, to Scottish parents, a father who worked for the United Nations and a romance novelist mother.[2] Fisher moved with her family to Perth, Western Australia, when she was nine months old.[1] Her name, after the Scottish island of Islay, is pronounced eye-luh; she has two brothers.[3] Fisher has said that she had a "great" upbringing in Perth with a "very outdoorsy life".

=D

I am astounded by Hugh Laurie's American accent in the TV series "House". I had too look up his background to realize that the guy was british.

Kate Winslet does the best Australian accent i've ever heard (or can recall) in Holy Smoke. I'd say you could count her mistakes in syllables on one hand. Very impressive, really made me take notice of her as an actor.

Anthony Hopkins does a good Kiwi accent in The World's Fastest Indian, though as i'm not a Kiwi myself, I might be misjudging.

To my Australian ears, Toni Collette does excellent American accents.

Hugo Weaving. Do I really need to explain? Even his Elfish Sindarin comes across as effortless.

Accents

Has anyone else had the great misfortune of watching 'Creep'?

The thing that annoyed me the most about the film were the accents. The main character was supposed to be from London yet in real life she's American or Canadian and had the worst screen accent I've ever heard in my life. At some points she just completely gave up and spoke in an American accent. Ridiculous.

Which made me wonder - why not just get a British actor to play a British character? And vice versa? It's not like there weren't any British actresses who could have played her part. It just ruins films when they do that.

Really????

Actually, that makes sense. At one point she says "No, I'm German actually" but I thought she was being sarcastic.

Jesus christ. That's even worse. A German with a dodgy British accent that sounds American half the time.

The worst accent I have heard recently was Christian Bale's British accent in The Prestige. It just sounded really fake.

Great movie....bad accent.

Ah, I never noticed this thread.

So to repeat the thread I've just created.

Franka Potente in 'Creep'. Worst accent I've heard in all my puff. Made a shit film even worse.

He is British!

I was going to say that Christian Bale's American accent is really good.... then I saw someone criticizing his actual British voice! Heh heh.

:X grrrrrrr, them's fighting words. that movie rocks!!!

Kevin Spacey-Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil...couldn't make up his mind, and I like him in anything usually, one scene he's Southern, next scene hes normal
Anthony LaPaglia-Sounds like a New Yorker to me...til I hear his true Aussie...

the guy who plays McNulty on the Wire is English also, but you wouldn't know it from his accent.

First of all, Creep is a great movie.

Second of all, she was speaking in her normal way. She is german. She had a slight german accent while speaking english. If her speaking with an accent really distracted you from the overall film, you should change your viewing habits... cause she had maybe thirty minutes worth of real dialogue in the whole movie.

Would it have been more acceptable if she sounded like one of the nazis in Raiders of the Lost Arc?

Or perhaps if she had a german accent more like Hans Gruber's in Die Hard?
