Best/worst on screen accents

Johnny Lee Miller's country accent-Mindhunters.
Joseph Gordon-levitt's homeboy accent-Havoc(God I couldn't stop laughing every time he spoke)

On a side note, foreigners in general do a far more convincing american accent than americans doing foreign accents.

apparently, hugh laurie's accent was so convincing that during the House auditions, the producer picked him out as an example of the kind of 'real' American he wanted :D

leonardo dicaprio in his new film, blood diamond. i had to stop what i was doing during something, to run to the tv, to see who was doing such an awful accent during this commercial.

I think Leonardo di Caprio is a total and complete failure at every accent he does-- from The Gangs of New York to The Departed to Blood Diamond.

just wondering - have you heard many white Zimbabwean accents?

Leo's was far from perfect, but i can't honestly think of any recent non-native South African or Rhodesian accents which were more convincing. it is quite a difficult accent to master, and i don't think he did a bad job at all.

ok, so he's no Charlize Theron... ;)

Oh yeah....I hate Penelope Cruz. She has the worst voice and accent in ALL her movies...so grating and incredibly annoying. I love the Spanish accent so she really is the problem. Ugh.

No, but I've worked with a bunch of white folks from the Sur.

It has to do all the time with him being inconsistent, shifting in and out, with his Midwestern blah panties peeping out more than is socially acceptable.

Carrie Fisher's not there-there-not there british accent in Star Wars really bothered me... even when i was 7 yrs old...

Exactly. A South African or Rhodesian English is the hardest variant pull off. Leo did a particularly admirable job and I had absolutely no problems understanding what he said. To be honest a lot of people who have slagged are clueless pirely by calling it ridiculous which is culurally insulting and smacks of ignorance.

GOOD: +1 for Rachel Griffiths.
BAD: Eric Bana in Black Hawk Down and the entire cast of Amadeus (great movie otherwise).

Ilsa Fisher's british accent in London was horrible8) then i found out she IS british.

sounds so much better with an american accent like in Wedding Crashers!%)

All-time Best Accent:
Anything by Peter Sellers

Good Accents:
Cary Grant
Katherine Hepburn
Johnny 5 from Short Circuit

Bad Accents:
Any Hollywood actor trying to do a Southern accent. No one does it right although I'll give props to Tom Hanks in "The Ladykillers". British actors do better southern accents than Hollywood types.
Graham Chapman did some horrible American accents on MPFC.
Damon Wayan's gay accent.

Bad but I'll forgive it because it was a good movie:
Bette Davis's cockney in Of Human Bondage.

^ i'm pretty sure she's australian, dude.

Scottish by birth but been living in Australia since she was 9 months old! I also didnt know she was engaged to Sacha Baron Cohen...thats hot. I thought she was super sexy and appealing in a slightly trashy way in Wedding Crashers. Nice tits. ;)

Carry on.

worst:

halle berry in xmen

not sure if she was supposed to be french, english, or something even more annoying. it was so bad that by the time they made it to the sequel she was just american.

David Tennant pulls off a flawless London/Southern English accent as Dr Who.
It was pretty strange to hear him in an interview as he has a thick Scortish accent in real life. Weird! I always thought he was actually English.

great gravy tell me no.

i've actually never seen her in an interview i suppose.

if she's not doing it on purpose i suppose i must retract my post.

poor thing.
