Best way to take the edge off methadone withdrawal?

I also was taking methadone to get off oxycontin and it was hard, but i had noticed that when i stopped taking the oxy and jumped on methadone that i could drop my intake of methadone dramatically everyday and it was easily tolerable until i didnt need anything anymore...my suggestion would be to take the darvocet for a couple days, less as each day goes by, then something else for a couple days...by doing this, ur body doesnt build tolerance or need anything, you will sleep fine and get no restlessness...it really worked for me the first time...i then relapsed and did it again..i was very surprised that it worked...also a little will power wouldnt hurt

darvocet right now would be dangerous for my liver bro - I dunno if you even comprehend the power of methadone withdrawals, talking months - not "dropping dramatically everyday until i didn't need anything" - sounds like you had a pretty low dose rec habbit and got out in time. Which is good bro! I'm sorry you relapsed - are you full blow again? And also, will power is the foundation of quitting anything, I'm not sure who you aimed that at but it's mindless dribble. Not trying to flame you but that sort of a thing to say just isn't helpful. "Stay strong, Good luck .. etc" All of which I wish you.

Thats So True

Just wait until you try to quit them bro. Bupe withdrawals are devastating :( - sorry to be the one to break it to you. The bottom line here is there is no easy way out from opiates - not one way, even if you get your brain washed YOU WILL WANT TO USE AGAIN.

I hear that, especially Methadone! AOW, I know this is a bit off topic, at what point did you find yourself begin to enjoy the normal day to day things. I find myself doing but I'm empty inside. It's like being reborn and I'm having to learn everythingall over again. This is my struggle, my life now. I look forward to your input.

Hey buddy - that is an excellent question! Here is the simplest way I can put it: by the end of week 3 I started to notice that while the symptoms were still awful I was getting better in some of them. Around this time I decided I needed to get away, I live in boston and I went to New Hampshire. During this trip I did nothing but hike, kayak, and chase camp counselor girls around :D <3! The fresh air was wonderful, it truly did turn my mindset around. Now here is the catch my friend: as I've stated I'm in some pretty severe pain right now from my liver values and also now some blood in my urine. I'm not sure if it was this or if it was my mind sobering up, but, I went from saying "man I'll never want to use, I want to experience life sober etc etc..." to "this pain is killing me wtf should I do" to now (still haven't used) "I want to be able to use once a week". It's no surprise to me, this is the first clean time I've had in over a decade really. I have found everything from the cooler weather, rain, the smell of some girls :), music(omg so great to listen to music again!), and the simpler things in life HAVE gotten better. I also find myself VERY aggressive, incredibly hostile. It seems as if I have not found any center to myself yet either, the emotions are waves and waves my friend, I can't say I enjoy anything the way I want to yet, but I am still holding on for that day.

^just to add, before my body started to break down from these recent events, I am a powerlifter and boxer - I hadn't done either in probably 4 years? Being back helped me out a ton - it was a tough push but worth it! Now i am on doc's orders to not touch a weight, I can't even throw a football without my right side feeling like it's going to explode, ugh :(.

No Passion

I feel for you and I hope your liver heals. Chasing skirts in NH, HA, HA! I will be going out of state for a wedding this Thu and while writing my last post I was thinking maybe it's not such a good idea to go, however, due to your response I'll change my mindset, thank you. The way I feel right now is I'm going through the motions but there's no emotion/feelings behind them. It's as though my soul/passion for life is gone. I'm wallking/running daily now in the hopes it'll help.

Take care of yourself!

Any opportunity for you to break out from where your habbit / problem was is a blessing bro! Take that shit and run! The emotions are gonna come, I keep telling myself the same. Be warned (and I'm sure you have felt this) during long term withdrawals from methadone, an unfortunate way out is the worst way of them all, taking your own life. I never thought I would say anything along those lines - but it is a very hard time and I want nothing more than to see others recover and be well. I'm glad you are able to get out and exercise bro, it helped me a ton! I can't wait to be off doc's orders and be able to lift and spar again. Have fun bro, be safe and stay strong.

I have been addicated to Oxy's and Heroin for about 5 years. I tried the methadone approach and that didn't work. The only thing that has worked has been Suboxone. This drug is AWESOME!! You will have absolutely no withdraw pains and now I take it for maintenance use. I've been on it for about 3 months now. For those that say they can't afford it is full of shit. My insurance doesn't pay for Suboxone so I have to pay for it out of pocket. My doctor gives me a 30 pill script. I take it to the drug store and fill it. The pills are $6.50ea. You don't have to buy all 30 at one time. If I don't have all the money I will buy just a couple to get me through. So if you have enough money to buy a bag of "H" then you have enough cash to buy a couple Suboxone. I realize the pills aren't cheap but when you think about it, it's still cheaper than "Heroin" and defintely an 80mg Oxycontin!! Good luck peeps!!

Damn, over here, apart from the fact that 1/3rd is paid by the state and usually the rest by insurance (which you get if you have a job, or if you're a student, or be on your parents insurance till you're 25), apart from that, a whole box of 7 times 8mg subutex will run you the same price as 2 pills in the US

also i'm still tapering down from 90mg to 24... but i'm also on valium and meprobamate, however these hardly help for my methadone taper since i have such a tolerance to them, but i'm sure they would help a lot if you had no tolerance!

It's nice to communicate w/someone who knows, I had those very thoughts yesterday, not that I'm going to do it. My thoughts were I can see why people take their lives or "use", to get rid of the pain or in my case to fill the emptiness. I'm forcing my self to exercise and keep going as I've come too damn far to quit now! I hope that liver of yours heals my friend!

advice

My first reply was more verbose but vanished.

Soma for muscle spasms (at the prescribed dose).

I suggest Valium in your case as it produces pronounced muscle relaxation. Whichever benzo you use should be long acting. Start low with the dose and find the smallest dose that works for you. I would take the Clonidine but everyone is different.

Keep hydrated and as nourished as possible, Ensure and healthy smoothies can help with that, but try to eat real food as well.

great to here bro, keep it up! Let me tell you the emotional sides are very overwhelming - it's not to be taken lightly, I know a few people that have lost themselves because of being caught in that head trip :(. Be safe my friend.

You didn't find somas messed with you ? I can't em cuz of my liver anyway, but when i had w/d in the past and took somas it was AWFUL. This was at an RX dose too. I don't know any research behind this, just curious if it was just me lol.

Tough situation bro, thank you for caring about your girl and being there for her now. By week 6 I was still having symptoms but compared to the hell that methadone w/d's are it was nothing to me. I've got kidney stones and a liver problem, I'm taking ultram for that right now, I have a script of OCs but i still have not been touching them. I can't say I won't use opiates, but I don't want to be in the same place ever again, I hate being an addict, I know I will use again but I want to practice the harm reduction I try to promote. The bone aches were not gone for me until i started taking the ultram to be honest with you, it's been 4 days on ultram and it's helping me out big time, liver doesn't ache all day, kidney I still have horrible sharp pains - thats where the OCs would be nice, but I'd rather save them (lol). I would expect all physical symptoms to stop within 3 months VERY max for her, but I am not her or her body, that's my honest to god best guess though bro. Feel free to hit me up whenever you want, I have a subscription to this thread.

Sorry for the late post (out of state), if you were refering to the "setback", I had a surgical procerdure and was given a large single dose of "fentanyl" and the next day I felt like day one all over again. AOW is correct about feeling better (for me much better physically by week three) until the procedure. I never experienced the aching bones, however, the worst part by far is the emotional ups and downs. So I'm clear, what I mean is as a "normal" person goes thought the day there are feelings/passion behind each and every situation. What I'm struggling with is a lack of feeling/emotions behind my activities. I'm going through the motions but there's nothing behind. What I really dislike is having to fake being in a good mood! I will say this, I am starting to experience some feelings and that among other things like (the support of Art of War) is what is pulling me through the fight of my life! Keep a close eye on your girl, make here eat well and stay active.
Be well.

I forgot to answer your question about feeling better at wks 6 & 8, by wk six the only withdrawals I'm feeling are random body chills (not bad though) and lack of consistent sleep (which can be really frustrating). Both are getting slightly better over time. I hope this helps your situation.

When I quit methadone cold turkey I was sick for about 50 or 60 days

The first few weeks were real bad and and after awhile I felt a little better

I smoked probably and 1/8 th of pot everyday and it helped quite a bit

Once I was nice and clean I stated chipping with h again , and got hooked :|

dude that is what i am afraid of! i have gone from 80 mgs to 40 mgs of meth in about 5 months. Now i havent had any really bad problems yet (other than the day i go pick up) i visit the clinic once a week, i tend to sometimes drink an extra bottle that first day. . im stupid. . so instead of feeling shitty(like once a month ill chip on the day before i go re-up on my methadone). . .

ive withdrawn b4 at home, in detox, on a friends couch/floor. . . worst so far was the detox center releasing me after a five day taper with soboxone (went in doin 15-25 bags a day) i thought all was goin to be fine till the second night off soboxone. . .all the rehab doc had given me was a script for freakin trazadone. . .it was horrible. . i spent the most of the next 3 day in the bathtub

i def dont want to go back to usuin dope everyday, but this methadone thing is gettin old after almost 4 years!

This Might Help

I went to doc who runs a 12 bed detox at the local hospital and outpatient also if the patient desires (which is what I did). He prescribed Gababetin/for calming the receptors, Trazadone/Seroquel for sleeping, Baclofen (a real potent muscle relaxer) there have been some studies that show it helps with cravings as well. Baclofen really helped get me through the first two weeks! NOTE: This is just me personally, since week three I have no interest in taking narcotics, I just can care less. My issue as I'm sure you've read is filling the emotional black hole as I've not any passion/drive but with the help of Art of War and my family I'll make it! Oh yeah, one more thing that helped with the lack of physical energy during withdrawals is consuming H20/PowerAid/GatorAid, etc, especially taking a B-Complex twice a day! I can't stress that enough. Again, this is my experience but ask your Dr.

Could someone get this hooked on methadone using just a few times a week?!

I have been taking methadone (65mg at a time) between 1 and 3 days a week for a long time.

When it leaves my system I am left feeling mild w/d symptoms like anxiety, pretty bad chills, and some diarreah... I often take bupe a couple of the days to ward off the mild symptoms..

I still haven't had the fucking courage to go more than a week without it, so I don't know how long these mild w/d symptoms will last if I just stop. Could they really last up to 60 days?:(

btw, I am sorry if my concerns about my petty habit offend any of you high-daily-dose folks who have quit and endured the hell...(YOU ARE AMAZING!!! SO STRONG!)...
