Best Stand-Up Comedy Specials

I've watched so many films and TV shows that I've run out. So I've started watching stand up comedy specials. But I don't know that many comics, so I need suggestions.

So far I've checked out Louis C.K, George Carlin and Bill Hicks.

'Louis C.K. - Chewed Up' is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.
'Louis C.K. - Shameless' is good, but pales in comparison to Chewed.

I thought Bill Hicks, 'A Sane Man' was pretty shit and I fully expect people to be outraged by that comment. Everyone's always going on about what a great comic Hicks is, what a genius he is. Personally, I think he's one of the most over-rated comedians of all time. Some people actually refer to him as a prophet. I guess I must've missed the prophecies between all the dick jokes. Maybe they were coming out of his ass when he was bending over his chair, impersonating softcore pornography for the third time, repeating his jokes.

George Carlin was good, but I need more, the newer the better as stand up comedy doesn't age that well.

What are your favourite Stand-Up Comedy Specials?

I'm surprised there hasn't already been a thread on this.
 
it might seem kind of mainstream but david spade's hbo special "take the hit" is very funny.

my favourite, without a doubt, is david cross' "the pride is back".

I watched 'Take it Like a Man' which I thought was alright, so I watched another, 'Long Live the Queen' and thought it was horrible.

She appears to just repeat the same racial stereotype based jokes. It's really formulaic. In both shows she picks out the same groups of people in the crowd and basically makes the same jokes about them. 'Ching Ping' is the asian guy. She likes black cock. Black guys are lazy. Jewish men have small penises. Asian men have small penises. The act of sucking a dick is disgusting. Hispanic men have lots of children and they are all illegal immigrants. Etc.

There were so many jokes repeated from show to show, that I turned the second one off before the end.

No jokes about Italian people and the only self-deprecating thing she said was that 'food is her problem', not that she is fat, that 'food is her problem'. But then she went right ahead and complimented herself on recently losing weight.

She said things throughout both shows like 'you'd love me if you knew me, personally', but I don't think that I would.

She's a shit comic. It doesn't require much talent to stand up in front of a crowd and insult them for an hour, especially when you are repeating material throughout your entire career.

Lisa Lamponelli is a fat, disgusting old bitch. That's where her appeal lies. She says shocking things, but they aren't clever. They're just racist. And in this policitcal correct world, racism is shocking. I guess it's funny to some people to see a middle-aged white woman say the word 'cunt' and pretend to be racist.

No offense.
 
Unfortunately female stand-ups just aren't funny. In no way am I being sexist or misogynistic, I always give them a chance and they continue to fail miserably. Maybe it's the ratio of male to females in the industry. Not to say that women aren't funny, but there's a difference when one is performing a live stand-up set.

A must-see is Jimmy Carr - Telling Jokes. The man is a master of comedy & one-liners. Political incorrectness delivered intelligently. Actually all of his specials are gold. He seems to bring a new one out every year without repeating material. He is a joke machine.

um, sarah silverman, janeane garfalo, laura kightlinger, maria bamford (she's so demented- i love it!), ellen degeneres (yes, i love her), margaret cho, kathy griffin (think i'm in the minority here)...um, who else?

and the male:female ratio is staggering.
 
Somebody mentioned The Ricky Gervais Show, which is utterly hilarious in a weird sort of way. If you would like to see animated intellectuals ridicule an idiot, then look no further than Karl Pilkington.

Richard Pryor is fuckin' incredible. I never knew. I always thought he as just this B-grade actor...
