That's a real bummer. I've seen some people do absolutely amazing things with gloves. I love gloving & giving shows. Ever watched any of the Emazing lights videos on youtube?
 
Poi is one of my personal faves... glowsticks or fire, doesn't matter... I can be sober and put on some good trance and get to spinning and start rolling my ass off.

I don't get how light shows could *NOT* take off... its like the most amazing thing ever getting a light show when you're rolling!

Yeah I know, I had the pleasure of getting one a few times =D I'm kind of an all-round music lover so I bounce around between a lot of different scenes. The only place you really see people giving lightshows is at underground raves. The kind of parties that are free entrance and text you the address a while in advance. It never really caught on at mainstream events. Glowstick bracelets, masks, suits, sunglasses, face-paint, those are common everywhere, but it's all just accessories, there isn't really any poi of any kind. Except again, underground, sadly

Here it depends on the event. Some promoters are dicks and will confiscate all glow items... just so they can sell them to you inside at a 500% mark up...

But last time I was in the scene it was pretty lively. That was years ago though.
 
yeah, over here poi and similar glowing things are mainly found in the psytrance scene, while devil sticks are more prevalent in the freetekno scene (where the most popular deco acessory is the strobe light anyway). other than that, there's hardly any "rave toys".
i have never gotten a light show and like many others likely wouldn't understand the value of it on mdma. then i'd be preoccupied with the music and the people anyway. those rave toys are best enjoyed on psychedelics imho. fire poi on mdma: 'boring, let's go dancing'; fire poi on lsd: 'woah! this is one of the most beautiful thing's i've seen this night'

btw, what is that "gloving" that everyone keeps talking about? i think it's probably nonexistant on this side of the pond.
 
They're basically gloves with photon lights at the fingertips. It's an easy way to do lightshows (vs photons) because less movement is required (mostly just your fingers, little bit of hand and arm movement) and there are 10 light sources so it will make it trippy.

Edit: Ah, lightshows will help you roll harder because of the tracers and the brightness relative to your setting (it won't work well unless you're in darkness). People rolling on mdma can literally get knocked out on a good lightshow because of the intensity of the visual effects, aka the tracers. I don't think it's very healthy for your eyes, though I have no proof to back this up. But it's an age-old rolling trick that's sadly getting a bit phased out with a concert's own stage lightshows.

really, i've never seen those gloves over here. but it looks nicer than i imagined.

if you're on mdma, can you really focus on the lights that much, with your eyes wiggling and zapping all over the place? i think, i'll still prefer the orgasmic vibrations you get when you touch a bass speaker :)
also the the stage lights have never interested me while on mdma (in which case they rather detract from the pleasant disorientation that the usual darkness would bring) ; only on psychedelics.

i don't think it's unhealth for the eyes, these things usually aren't that intensely shining (if you're sober, that is ;) ).

I was at an event once & my friend was giving a light show when a security guard came up to us screaming about how we were burning our retinas & we were making ourselves blind.
I mean, maybe we were back when we were using iNovas without diffusers. Haha. I just don't think the lights are nearly as bright with the diffusers on them.

If you ever have the chance, sit up against a speaker while getting a light show. It's a completely different experience. Things get so much more intense.

Haha, quite true. Those stage lightshows can't even compare to a real lightshow. Heck, even glowsticking is more intense (and those will trip you out the least and take the most work to do). I'm a bit old school so I use photons and glowsticks, but gloves and pois are fun to watch too. Yeah, it's weird...you'll have eye wiggles, but you'll be able to follow the lights (if they're done well and aren't far apart or something) with your eyes wiggling at the same time, lol. But hey, the speaker hump is great too. That alone will also intensify your roll quite a bit too.

About that last bit, yeah only if your pupils are dilated will it be any bright at all. On that note, getting a lightshow while sober is absolutely ridiculous imo, lol. You become more aware of the person's movements rather than the show itself. And yeah, I was just guessing about the eye damage and I'm probably wrong as hell, heh. Your eye sight will be affected though, after a good lightshow on mdma, so that's where my terrible assumption came from.

Lol. F security guards at raves. They're just toy cops trying to act hard and play the nanny. It's immature, but it's hella funny when a friend of mine would always flip them off behind their back, even if they hadn't done anything. We'd always be snickering about that. (Man, I miss the good old days).

Heh, those lights will definitely give you mad tracers. It always make me smile when someone gets floored and you see their eyelids fluttering like crazy, lol. It makes it all worth it cuz you know they're peaking again.
 
one of the last time i was on k and only 1 hit of AL LAD; my friend gave me a lightshow in his living room i had some headphones in; had a straight up religious experience. came out of it shaking and crying tears of happiness. seriously therapeutic on the deeper subconscious level .the synchronization of colors & music to geometrical precision is healing for the soul. not to mention usually if i am too floored; if i get a light show; it hypes me the fuck up and i can get up and dance :D

^This is fucking awesome. I'd love to have an experience like that. I've had some amazing lightshows, nothing like that though. I'd also absolutely love to give AL LAD a try. I've read some amazing things about it.

i think it was just set & setting perfect while comin down and just relaxin; definitely away from the rave enviorment stimulation was key. we need induced immersive lightshow isolation chambers lol. the al lad is pretty cool; im sure i could of got there with L too though :D. forgot how good strong acid is too though xp. my last trip i had 3 tabs and absolutely fried face; easily twice as long as the al lad; def more economical haha
 
I was watching the EDC Documentary & some of the people on there had a sensory overload chamber. It had fuzzy walls & flashing lights. Seemed like a pretty crazy idea. Your lightshow isolation chamber reminded me of it.
And I'm also hoping to acquire some very good L in the near future. Rumor of Microdots floating around.

haha funny shit; the kids that made that thing live in pretty close proximity to me; their "parties" are not the greatest sadly :/. but ya that thing does look fucking awesome right?

And it definitely would be beautiful to come across those Microdots. Keeping my fingers crossed. I've only ever had tabs & liquid one time.
