I'm sorry. This isn't even a matter of opinion: Independence Day is
not a great movie. It's an over-budgeted, formulaic hollywood piece of shit that's a disgrace to real filmmakers everywhere. I could sit down and whip up a script for a movie like Independence Day in about four to five hours. It's a matter of filling in variables in a formula, which all screenwriters know about, it's commonly referred to as the FCBPC formula (which stands for Flaw, Catalyst, Big Event, Pinch, and Crisis). You fill in those variables for both the "action" story and the simultaneous "emotional" story, condense it into 80-100 pages and VOILA! you have yourself a magnificent piece of shit. There's no art to this shit whatsoever. It's painting by numbers.
Shit like that movie is what I'm forced to write when I desperately need money, there is no artistic value to it whatsoever. Generic, predictable plot lines; poorly developed characters; and ridiculously expensive special effects and CGI. Nothing more, nothing less. Plus Will Smith is a complete choad, and is not a real actor.
In fact, Independance Day is a perfect example of how shithead hollywood producers are ruining the art of film. Film is an
art, not a fucking pastime. There are real filmmakers that devote their life to making deep, personal, moving films and they don't get shit because of assholes that rather watch shit like Independance Day.
