It depends where you grew up, where I used to live armed gangs of Albianians terrorized home owners, there were several cases of torture, rape and murder. All of their guns are smuggled illegaly from eastern Europe. That's why everybody gets a license, goes to the range and keeps a loaded piece under the bed.

Aye, to me it seems like the same mentality as someone who carries a knife "for self-defense".

I've never had the need to feel safer in my own home & I've stayed in some far rougher areas than where I stay just now. The law of the baseball bat was enough protection for me because, due to the very limited availability, it was highly unlikely that anyone trying to break into my house would have a gun. They'd likely have a blade but I'd be willing to take my chances with a baseball bat. If guns were more available then I don't doubt that the average wee rat who carries a blade would carry a gun instead. In fact, if they were more available I'd have one. Just for the sake of waving it about like a dick, which isn't really a good thing.

Right, fair enough - just wanted clarification that you meant 'householders' as opposed to people who own the property in question. It's a very British distinction, don't worry. ;)
 
Yeah that's what the pro-gun people don't get, these people they're so scared of (random criminals trying to steal from them or rape them or w/e) wouldn't have fucking guns if they weren't legal. By and large, these aren't gangsters with connections to the russian mafia or the IRA or whatever, mostly these type of crimes are committed by people who're just random assholes or desperate addicts or mentally ill.

Honestly, logic doesn't come into it. Half of them have been pumped full of fear of addicts and minorities by the media, and the other half just want to feel cool and powerful because they have a gun.

Quite a statement that is, a lot of people enjoy shooting sports like clay shooting and target shooting and would never consider using a gun against a living thing, I do agree that a few can be the power-hungry types but most are just normal people who enjoy certain sports. Also it depends in what country you live in, in some places it's fairly easy to acquire black market weapons even if the laws are very restrictive for honest citizens, you don't need to have friends in the IRA to have gun, really. In some countries if you can find coke you can find a gun and it won't cost you that much either. Just fly to Napoli and try for yourself.

Shooting ranges take care of the ones who genuinely just enjoy it as a sport.

First of all, 'depending what country you live in' is a fairly broad statement. I've done a whole pile of drugs and I've never seen an illegal gun, speaking for myself. Secondly, the reality is that, regardless of the hypothetical availability of black market guns, people just don't buy them in nearly the same numbers they buy illegal drugs. The reality is that gun prohibition works, the numbers speak for themselves. The only argument you ever need for gun control is a map showing the rate of gun murders next to a map showing the level of gun control in first world countries.

I thought you'd come to terms with the fact that logic had nothing to do with it and you just like guns, now you're trying to argue the point again :p
 
Germany will never have a negative population growth by 2050. Those extrapolations don't factor in that Europe is soon going to be like when you shake a rug from one end... all the Southern Europeans are going to swamp Northern Europe.
