There is no best anti-depressant everyone works differently for different people. It also depends on the kind of depression you got. If you have depression with insomnia a sedating anti-depressant would be best but if you have depression where you oversleep and have no energy a more stimulating anti-depressant would be good.
I personally found both wellbutrin and elavil (amitriptyline) to be good anti-depressants. Wellbutrin is great if you have low energy and especially if you have bipolar depression like me as it's the least likely to set off mania.
Elavil is a old school tricyclic and alot of people dont like it because of it's anti-cholinergic side effects. But a big plus i found with this med is that it doesn't cause any sexual dysfunction at all unlike the ssri's. It's a rather good anti-depressant if you have really bad insomnia as well because it's a total knock out drug. You take your full dose at night because it's very sedating. It's the best sleep aid ive ever tried by far it even beats seroquel.
