Best anti-anxiety medication by prescription?

I have great success with xanax if used once or twice a week. I'm currently experimenting with valium and at a dose of 25mg at once it seems to do little for me except make me feel a little more refreshed in the morning ( as it sedates me more but other benzos do as well but i never felt i had a better sleep).

Also i have taken valium maybe 4-5 times now at 20mg doses and only once i felt a nice mood improvement. Kind of like a buzz. Tonite I'm gonna try 35mg at once with the usual grapefruit juice and see if anything is more enjoyable.

Also to truly test these meds i think you have to be in an anxious situation ( which i have not been in during my testing). This of course applies to ppl who are not always in panic state.

I'm quite partial to Lexotan (bromazepam). It has a good anxiolytic effect with absolutely no motor impairment or unwanted sedation, plus its duration of action is just right (moderate). It's a very functional benzo.

Which Benzodiazepine is best for Soxial Anxiety

I was recently prescribed Klonopin for my anxiety mostly in social scenarios. I lied to the dr. but for good reason. Every other SSRI or MAOI I've ever taken and dreadful Buspar have never had a single noticeable change in my anxiety. Benzodiazepines are the only way to handle it. I Told my doc I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety.

Anyways... :|

I was wondering what benzodiazepine was best in treating general social anxiety. One that preferrably has a decent half life (24hrs) and is effective.

Also i've been to so many different Benzo Equivalency charts and still haven't determined wheter 1mg of Clonezepam is equal to 1mg of Alprazolam or only .5. If sombody could clear that up that'd be cool. I imagine diazepam also is equal to 10 if Alprazolam is 1mg.

Any recommendations on a benzo that would work best for me? I've used 1mg alprazolam in the past with good results but it doesn't last long enough for me. I've also tried Lorazepam and hated it.

Please help!!!

if alp doesnt last long enough then definitely clonazepan. you don't want to go with diazepam because in my experience, it is loses its affects after a while.

It's totally individual. Xanax makes me hallucinate (in a bad way) and gives me terrible sleep paralysis. Ativan on the other hand is like being enveloped in a warm teddy bear... no anxiety or bad feelings at all!

But some people swear by xanax.

Buspar is useless, try sticking with Xanax or Valium if you can.

Note' both are addictive, so use only when needed.

both have the potential to cause dependence and tolerance, both of which are different than addiction.

i think the best prescription anti anxiety iz valium it feelz the most calming 2me.even on wikepidia it sayz daily use of bezos 4 anxiety should not be considred abuse i think people make 2 much out of use of them ssris have nasty side effects and can feel stimulating and jittery.the herb kava iz also safe and an enjoyable help.

I have prescriptions for both xanax and valium, and let me tell you I never ever experience anxiety. I also sleep a lot though, so its a fair trade, I suppose.

I take 10mg valium b.i.d.
& 1mg xanax p.r.n.

(Thats 10mg valium 2x a day and 1mg xanax as needed)

Having something for generalized anxiety (valium) working in the background along with something to take for acute anxiety/panic attacks (xanax) is the way to go if you have very bad anxiety. The only thing is getting a doctor to give them to you. I'm trying to taper off the valium and only use it as needed, because I don't want to ever find out what benzo withdrawals are like....

^ So I've heard. I've been taking benzos on an as needed for about 6 months now, but now I've been taking valium daily for 2 months. I figure I'm going to do a medium-paced taper and get off and take them as needed, before its too late - its only been 2 months so I know I can get out without much pain.

Is that a decent assumption? Since its only been 2 months at 15-20mgs a day (valium), getting off shouldn't be that hard? I mean compared to it being several months longer, or higher doses, or a shorter-acting benzo...

So for the past few weeks I've been put on a Buspar and Vistaril combo to help out with mild social anxiety, which can make me experience panic attacks in heavily crowded or overly stressful situations. This combo doesn't work, as the buspar has really only helped with overall anxiety of stress, but has made me oddly very jumpy and has little to no effects on my panic attacks in situations. My question to you all, what benzo do you find most helpful in treatment? I'd rather be put on something more long lasting like valium, but at this point i'll take anything.

Buspar sucked ass for me, and visteral is basically benadryl. They made me jumpy also, it was like all of a sudden some noise or something would make me feel like i was jumping out of my body.

Xanax works great but can be strong and short lived. Try xanax xr or klonopin. Valium is ok and longer lasting but doesn't always stop anxieties and / or panic attacks (for me).

Valium or xanax.. in my oppinion but im not ur doctor, iv just switched from one to the other as month or so as vals gets me all depressed n shit xanax 4 me seems at the appropriate dose 2 be doin wonders 4 me right now..:)
NB: have been told xanax as mentioned above is harder to get off overall in the end.u just gotta way it up

Klonopin was very good
I havnt tried xanax er but i like xanax so couldnt hurt

- Imo benzos dont help anxiety very much im more of a ssri fan

. Most doctors suggest SSRIs for this type of anxiety.

i was put of lustral but they didnt do shit, just gave me a nasty taste in my mouth then sertraline which i didnt get a long with (they gave me a weird feeling i can only describe as a lump in the back of my throat which made me feel sick) ssri's just dont do it for me. i didnt believe they worked, maybe it was psychological. who knows?
since then i have given up on doctors and medication and i deal with my anxiety by just coping with it.
