Best Advice You've Ever Recieved?

"Fuck it" - what my friend says no matter what the problem is. not exactly constructive but sometimes it does seem that the less you care about something the better.

I couldn't disagree more.

As stated eloquently by Rabbi Harold Kushner:

"If we believe that in order for life to be good, we have to avoid pain, the danger is that we will become so good at not feeling pain that we will learn not to feel anything - not joy, not love, not hope, not awe."

Well i think that in some situations, going on only my own personal experiences, this sometimes is the best/only answer.
I can see lots and lots of ways in which it can cause problems and it might only succeed in suppresing your feelings but if it's a fairly trivial matter anway then i think it holds water.

Maybe he says it to me because he just can't be bothered expanding though, lol.

when you're angry, shout.

I'd have to disagree here.

Shouting can make things much worse than they already are. Instead of shouting or demonstrating your anger, talking skillfully about your anger without inflicting it upon others in order for resolution is much more effective IMO (and the Buddha's as well).

"Chicks before Dicks" -I'm serious.

Is this pertaining to staying true to the same sex? Like for guys it's "bros over hoes" and girls it's your quote?

Do you know who authored it?

I got it from this article I read taken from a book called "Intimate Relationships; the Astrology of Attraction" by Jeff Jawer.

And from a book I read called "The Piano Man's Daughter" by Timothy Findley:

"If you can be reconciled to the flesh you are given and the days unfolding with their unique demands of you, then you can have a life as full as anyone's- no matter who you are. These, Mal realised, were gifts to be reaped, if you said: 'I am me- none other. I am this- nothing more. I am here- nowhere else- and here I'll bide. Forever."

Easier said than done though, but I still think it's one of the most beautiful things I've read.

Sexy- Correct.

I think it is an important thing for a lot of younger people to keep in mind especially. Nobody likes a friend who drops off the face of the earth when they have a SO, and then comes crawling back for support. A lot of people lose sight of the people that are [in the end] the most important to their support system.

in my attempt to be concise, i didn't explain myself very well.

what i meant was, don't bottle up the anger - i used to go for a drive in the car, turn my stereo up and shout it out.

I like these ones too.

"True nobility is not about being better than anybody else. It's about being better than you were."

"The wise man knows he knows nothing."

I think it's important to realise we're always learning.

Nice one.

Kinda similar:

"Don't waste your time on jealousy.

Sometimes you're ahead; sometimes you're behind.

The race is long.

And in the end, it's only with yourself."

-- Mary Schmich, Sunscreen

"Don't anticipate, just participate." ~ Sister Norberta Myers
My translation: Enjoy life right now and quit rushing through things. Annoying at the time but now I see it as very valuable advice :)

"You don't HAVE to do anything except die and pay taxes." ~ Sister Sheila Flannegan
My translation: Do your thing and enjoy life because in the end lack of money and death are unavoidable ;)

Two tough ass nuns from Catholic school spoke these words and they have stayed with me since.

As for relationship advice...

"Sex does not equal love...sex is easy to come by love is not." ~ my Dad

My mom told me when I was younger, "Never be with a woman who's willing to come between you and your friends".

Best piece of advice I have ever received.

Someone I know needs to remember this:

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly." -Buddha

And one for myself to remember:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

^ that' second quote is a great one.

i echo the quote in sara's message - it took me about 30 years to realise that "you don't have to do anything you don't want to do"

... be true to yourself.

Can't agree more with that.

See your problems as opportunities.

Do what works - not what is 'right'.

A gram of practice is worth a tonne of theory.

If sex is a pain in the ass, you're doing it wrong :)

"Any man can be a father... but it takes a true man to be a daddy.."

"They're always watching..."

"In order to get through life, you have to take the good with the bad and learn how to work with them both."

"It'll only get worse before it gets better.." (sucky but true a lot of the times for me)

"If you're true to yourself first, you're true to everyone."

"Only settle with a man that loves you more than you love him" -- my best friend's grandma --

At first it sounds really selfish, but if you think about it, it makes a world of sense.

"Don't be jealous. Nothing will kill a relationship faster."

This lady i used to work with told me that... it is simple, but SO important.
