Benzodiazepine withdrawal

Hello guys, my name's Paulo (Paul in english). I'm portuguese and I've been a drug user for 10 years. I'm 24 now. I started off at 14 with hash and evolved to cocaine, weed, alcohol, speed and XTC later on. I've tried everything including heroin. But the heroin case was just a one time thing and I never touched it again. Right now I'm suffering from schizophrenia and depression and the benzodiazepines prescribed help a bit. I used to take Ativan but now I take Valium. I'm trying to reduce on the benzos but I need tips on how to ease the withdrawal. Today I went to sleep to ease the hungover of taking a few benzos per day in a space of weeks to ease the anxiety. Any tips? Thank you. I've been sober for nearly 4 months now and I can't even touch weed, much rather blow. I'd appreciate some tips.

Check Ashton's manual and do lots of weed (if it ain't inducing anxiety, I started blazing only after I had no more benzo because weed is tricky bitch of a psychedelic) and propranolol and some gabapentinoids while tapering and while after you take last dose so you don't feel desire to go kindling by going backwards on program. Also gabapentinoids and weed little so, help to prevent seizures. You don't want any of them.

Buy a BIG spoon and eat your shit every day until it is over. If you can choose so, don't make commitments to work or anything.

Medical professionals are good or not. If you know what you do you just need correct drugs dosed correct in correct form.

Wondering if it ever ends and if you have some other serious health condition than WDs is normal. Just eat your shit.

what will replace the benzos if you come off of them?
welcome to bl. hope you find a comfy spot to alight and stay a bit.
diazepam can be tapered to almost nil with certain measures but what of the schizophrenia and depression?
thanks and be safe

Ashton Manual, yes. Weed for benzo WD? Only if that’s not ever anxiety inducing for the person.

But really I didn't properly register that OP doesn't smoke overall.

In ideal, possibly utopistic situation other drugs or meds are not needed. Slow taper should be enough so you won't die or get harmed.

But some drugs can be used for alleviating WD symptoms. I would focus on stuff that doesn't decrease seizure threshold or form dependence. It is better to take Imodium than Laudanum for diarrhea if it lasts half a year.

I won't repeat what others already have suggested here; plenty of good advice regarding alternative drugs/tapering which mostly works. What I will say is this -> there is probably a reason you started doing drugs at 14, I suppose you still don't know why; If you want to stay clean/sober in the future, you must find out why you started in the first place; otherwise, mostly, it is juggling from one addiction to another, not treating the underlying reason for doing them in the first place.

If you believe modern psychology, there is probably some emotional trauma which led you at 14 to start using; if you manage to heal that, you have a good chance to kick this for good.

Now, identifying and healing emotional traumas is the hard part, people go to therapists for that and some have success with them, some don't.

I'm sorry if this advice isn't very benzo specific, I try to take a broader view on this issue, hence my post.

Thats great advice...for everyone trying to stop/quit. Thank-you for sharing this : ) it really got me thinking.

No doubt; I started smoking pot on the daily when I was 13; kept it up along with every other drug done compulsive like; including my addiction to exercise or porn.
Kinda jealous that my sister was valedictorian and a bitch to me; bringing me home when she caught me sneaking to beer busts at 15. That one hurt; but after tears I got a 1:00 am curfew
Had a good wife; but dial up babes lit up my nights; I got over it. Bought a VW van with a student loan and dropped out of college to chase waves on a van you had to push start the whole way.
That blew up both the van and the three guys friendships down in Mainland Mexico. Called my parents after hitchhiking thru the desert from AZ for some funds. What a spoiled brat I am!
Surf Doobie Chow was the mantra; but also way too many acid trips or mushroom eighths or 5000 swiped from my parents college fund for me on eight balls of coke
To smoking meth with losers for a bit; to endurance exercise and clean living
to pain meds and benzo overuse; nodding out on the methadone until I learned it was dangerous.
Just started therapy; havent scratched these wounds open just yet; may take awhile.
Oh yeah I also used to get black out drunk on the regular.
Miracle I graduated college and started dating a distance swimmer/started doing that kinda stuff COMPULSIVE MUCH!!!!

Yes, I agree. Cbd without the thc which could cause anxiety. Cbd is calming. If you like herbal tea Chamamile is calming as well. I gave tremors at times and the tea is calming.

I am afraid that Chamomile tea and also CBD won't do much when you withdraw from Diazepam. I have gone through quite a few benzo withdrawals and I believe that there is almost nothing you can do against the symptoms. Booze helps, obviously (same receptor target), and can be used for short term relieve if that is required. I drank a few beers or some longdrinks before I went shopping during withdrawal to stop the shaking and the panic/anxiety. A tiny bit of weed can also help but probably not when you have serious psychological disorders like the OP apparently has.....

Compared to opiate withdrawals, I found benzo withdrawal to be much better even though I used a ton of valium and xanax for long periods. The insomnia is similar but there is no pain, no vomiting, no extreme restless legs. You are weak, miserable, shaking, anxiety ridden, extremely fatigued but the overall condition is manageable.

What constitutes a high dose CBD? 100mg or 500mg or?
I'd say 500 mg and upwards.

Mind you, that dose should inhibit some lizer enzymes.

I don't know if there is any science behind this claim but I've heard that CBD inhibits particularly CYP3A4. If so, that should mean less total active metabolites of diazepam. If it inhibits all enzymes equally, it should not change anything but prolonged total metabolism.

I had strong, comprehensive pains. There was no place I didn't hurt. Drip of sweat felt like cold rusty knife. I still get waves of toe bone pain WTF. It took some weeks also before nausea subsided. Didn't puke.

You make a good point here regarding stuff one can use when w/d from BZD's; I managed to wean of off Diazepam with the help of Pregabalin (3-4 wk/s at 300-600mg/d), but that drug can be very problematic for some; and in general, after reading a bunch of medical literature there isn't really one specific medication which is proven to work for BZD w/d's, it is pretty much Russian Roulette which will (if any) help.

If find interesting that You say BZD w/d was more manageable than Opiate w/d, I have no experience with Opiates, but from all the reading I've done, people usually say it's the opposite; I guess at the end of the day, it boils down to users individual chemistry.
