Opioids Being safe with opiates

Almost every doctor will taper you down or prescribe other medications to combat physical withdrawl in higher end opiates. No doctor who prescribes these drugs would just stop you cold turkey, that's malpractice, and reeks of something Mengele would do.

Also, a 'strong-mind' isn't going to prevent physical dependence from prolonged opiate abuse. It's like saying that prolonged exposure to fire won't burn you, or only dipping your balls in acid twice a week won't eventually fry your scrotum.

I know the point you are trying to make, which is where is the defining line between your mind succumbing to wanting the effects the opiates make you feel and needing the effects of the opiates to not be sick. The real answer is, noone knows.

I dont find the line to be that difficult to see. If your legs arent involuntarily shaking, puking or waking up sweating then your not physically addicted. There are more mild symptoms, but craving more opiates because you like the high, its mental weakness. Then it gets out of control to where you become physically addicted.

i used to use 1-2 times a week for a few months and never had any sort of physical or psychological addiction. u should be fine. i only dosed once a day tho. for me, i find it extremely had to get addicted to oxy unless i had a huge amount of money and could afford to dose several times a week for several weeks. heroin is a different ball game tho and 3 days in a row on that will grab u pretty hard by the balls..

And just to drive my point home, here's what you posted yesterday:

Recently in my area there are some OP80's going around. I like taking 40mg but esspecially like taking the whole 80.

And just to drive my point home, here's what you posted yesterday:

I don't see what your getting at? I havn't taken a pill for atleast 10 days without a problem (and counting). Who wouldnt enjoy taking a higher dosage of something when they're looking to get high?

It IS possible to become addicted to them period. Weather it starts out physically, mentally or emotionally. It usually starts our mentally or emotionally and next thing you know you are waking up dope sick. *NOTE: Anything I post is from personal experience and I am not preaching, just sharing my journey through active addiction and recovery.
In my experience, I started using Roxi 30mg only a couple times a week. I am an addict so with me (regarding ANY drugs) I become addicted quick. Within the next month I was using 2-5 30mg Roxis daily and at the end of my addiction I was using 10-20 30mg daily. Unfortunately I didn’t realize I WAS physically addicted until it was too late. I have been clean many times before all related to cocaine and alcohol in the past. The past year is when I started with the opiates. I wish I would have taken other peoples advice in the past to not get involved with them. It is absolutely the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.

I recommend not using them unless you absolutely have to and you have no other options. Now, don’t get me wrong 99.9% of people won’t listen to anyone else (hell, I didn’t) and are going to use them for the right or wrong reasons. I do know that. But as a recovering addict if I can share my experience with anyone, I will.

Good luck to you.

theres no point trying to convince him. the drug is so adictive it implants a BS philosophy of self-control and pro-drug that enables the occasional user to become an addict...so let him play with the fire, go through what we all did, and hopefully come out alive. i have never seen any case of people talking a beginner out of chipping. there are infinite excuses and they are so tired and worn.

lets put i this way:

id sacrifice my left ring finger to reverse time, never have even touched opiates, and known what i did right now. and everyone thinks/thought i am one of the strongest-willed, strongest-minded guys out there.

A psychological addiction is not always a 'weak-mind', some people are pre-disposed to do certian things regardless of their moral integrity. Also, a safe level of opiate use before getting addicted is zero. No offense OP, but I have seen just about every user I have ever seen say the following:

1. I will only use on the weekends, which led to
2. I will only use every other day, which led to
3. I use everyday, but at least im not doing heroin, which led to
4. I know I use heroin, but at least I don't shoot it, which led to
5. I shoot heroin, at least it's cheaper than oxy!

Not saying you will turn out this way, but it's a good possibility.

I know plenty of opiate users & they have been using for years & have never touched heroin. Sure they may be addicted to opiates but doesnt mean they will search for the needle.

To each their own. If you are doing opiates for recreation, it will be a tough road.

I agree, I am not saying there is a pre-determined opiate fate that we are all destined for, but in my experience it's an all too common road.

Couldn't say it better myself. This very quote right here should be stickied!! :p

I'm currently on step 2 with kratom. Kratom is a little less addicting in a physical sense, however the psychological aspect is there 100%. I went through this with pod tea last summer, very much in the same way. Only one small ~10g cup on the weekend, to one cup and a redose, then several cups a weekend, then friday morning before work became part of my "weekend", so did mondays after, and eventually I found myself using on wednesdays too simply staying clean on thursdays and tuesdays. All this while, using more and more every time due to tolerance QUICKLY building. It hit me when I downed a 40g glass of tea on a wednesday morning before work, and barely felt it, only to have irritability and cold sweats start hitting me. I was addicted and need to check myself befo' I wreck myself...and I did. Stopped cold turkey, the withdrawal turned out to actually not be all THAT bad and I didn't use any opiates for several months. I felt really good about myself for pulling this off.

Now, I've moved onto kratom, which is much less addicting but still habit forming (emphasis on habit). I started just like with pod tea, only weekends, but then my contract ended with the company I was with (expected) and basically just got to kick it at home for ~4 months. I decided to allow myself to use every three days, as in a cup on Monday, not use 'till Thursday, etc.. That evolved into every other day, and to be honest I've been pretty good at maintaining that. I have now landed a new job and in preparation for this, I allowed my kratom supply to run out before I thought about ordering more, as to force myself to not use because at this point, I must say I am quite psychologically addicted. So far it's been 6 days since I last used and I have felt minor symptoms like fatigue, slight irritability, maybe a hint of anxiety, but really all in all the worst part is the simple cravings. I'm hanging out here at home, nothing I need to do, pretty broke with nothing to do, and kratom normally is my solution to being so bored. This is good though, because it's already gotten easier and knowing I've done this before with something tons more addicting gives me confidence.

I ordered more kratom and am still waiting for it to come. Any physical withdrawal symptoms have completely subsided and all that's left is a craving. However, the best thing all along has been staying busy. If you simply stay busy, your mind will be off it. That's why I was using starting work again as a milestone for tapering down. I still plan to use kratom, but I'm going to go back to my weekends only rule. This is an important job this time so there will be NO getting high before work. It should be easy for me to curb my habit this time. :)

I agree with most, at the point your at right now withdrawal will be very slight, which you have already experienced if I'm reading this right. Having said that, what most have seemed to pick up on is the mental game we play in the beginning, the denial of what we really want, and that is to feel good all the time. Like an oldtimer once told me, if you see a rattle snake and pick it up and it bites you, you can't blame the snake, because you knew what it was when you picked it up. I just started tapering myself off of oxycotin/oxycodone/soma, if you don't want to end up like me, don't pick up the snake.

If you are using the drugs recreationally and plan to continue for a long time then there is no 'being safe with opiates'. It's that simple.

I don't know many (any?) people with an adequate supply of opiates that have managed a sporadic usage pattern lasting longer than a year.

^ exactly. I was able to chip for years without a habit because I couldn't afford to have a habit and because I couldn't always score. then I got a script for ms contin and the weekend grew.

That's the god's honest truth. Except step 6 would be : Endless cycle of attempted detox/withdrawals/rehabs/jails.

First of I am well aware there is no defining line where someone will become addicted/attatched or over-appreciate opiates... Knowing this, I AM NOT looking for an exact amount.

Recently in my area there are some OP80's going around. I like taking 40mg but esspecially like taking the whole 80. I will absolutly never take more then 80mg in one day and never more then two days in a row. At the rate I have been taking the pills, I am ingesting no more then two OP80's a week. At this rate how susceptible am I to feeling some sort of withdrawl symptoms and am addicted?

If so, how bad? This is STRICTLY OPINION and nothing you say should be used as a reference to 'safely' use these drugs. I am saying this in hope that the thread doesn't get closed. I would say assume that you take a couple pills and be addicted. But more realisticly, how many mg of oxy per week would you have to be taking to start getting physically and/or over-psychologically attatched to the drug. STRICLY OPINION.

Frankly, if you're worrying about "how much do I need to take before I get addicted," you are most likely already dealing with psychological addiction - which is far more dangerous than physical addiction. Lots of pain patients become physically dependent on their medication: quite a few even experience withdrawal as they taper off their dose or are forced to quit cold turkey for one reason or another. And once they get the opiates out of their system they go on with their daily lives without any particular desire to begin using again.

Once you start counting the days and the hours before you can take your next dose, you're spending a great deal of time thinking about your drug of choice. Chances are that as time goes on the intervals between doses will shrink and the amount you take will rise - and before you know it you're going to be riding the Junkie Train. That's not a given: there are definitely people who use opiates recreationally for years without becoming addicted. But for the most part they are occasional chippers who may go weeks or months between uses. When you have to create a schedule and force yourself to stick to it, you're already on your way to a habit.

Guess I shouldn't have asked :'(

I wouldnt call myself addicted but I crave. No more then I crave the occasional rolled dutch or six pack before bed lol though.

I crave sex more than I do opiates.....i wonder if that will change? I take my meds for back pain, but then again, thats how it starts.

I gotta agree with Mora Fiend's self made 'chart of opiate addiction'. I've seen too many people go from doing oxys and swearing they would never do H to eventually sniffing H and saying they will never bang it, to banging it and justifying it by talking about the price. Your best bet is to not use opiates every time you use, mix it up a little bit so you don't become addiction to the drug that you choose to use EVERYTIME. My benzo addiction started because I liked benzos more than other drugs and took it everytime, eventually becoming addicted because I wanted to be impaired everyday.

If your pain isn't excruciating consider using a non opiate that day, a weaker one or less of your chosen opiate. Avoid dosing to feel good or to deal with emotions (ie if you are depressed, stressed, anxious, ect). Try non pharmaceutical options to relieve or prevent your pain where possible (exercise, watching TV, stretching, ect). If you see yourself getting addicted consult a friend or psychologist to help you find methods to deal with the pain and the drugs.

If you follow these tips you will significantly reduce the rate at which you build up tollerance/addiction.

It is impossible to ever eliminate the risk of addiction but you can do things to give you the best chance possible!
