Bali Bomb Blast

deecee you're ignoring the fact there were 3 almost simultaneous detonations. 2 close to each other at the Sari Club and Paddy's Irish Pub in Kuta, and a third 100m from the US consulate in Depasar. How do the other two explosions fit into your 'exploding gas canister' theory?
I'm also finding it difficult to believe an exploding gas canister has the conflagarative force to level a a city blocks worth of real estate and kill upwards of 250+ people.
And don't even get me started on talkback radio.. 'hard facts'? HA!

Bali.
Confirmed dead : 30
Missing : 180
Injuried : 113
Now, I don't see how that adds up to 250 people dead yet. And as we all know from the WTC attack (remember the early 20,000 dead thing?) there eventually turned out to be only approximately 2000 casualties.
The news media like nothing better than to hype it up.
In my opinion its a tragedy, but it doesn't mean it was aimed at us, or aimed at anything in particular. But if it is? Then maybe we should all examine our position holding onto the USA's coatails when it comes to International Affairs. Remember that if the USA put 1/10th of what it spends on the military each year into feeding the hungry across the world, starvation would be eradicated. World policeman maybe, but its a world policeman patrolling a razor wire fence of economic apartheid.

Plazma: As SMH points out, those above figures only represent the *Australian* toll.

Non Australians are people too!

I feel so sorry for our Australians who were killed or injured in this attack, but the most that I feel sorry for are the people from Bali. The country relies on tourism to make a living and now no one will go there! The place will fall apart. It's a very sad moment, but I really hope everything gets back on track as soon as possible.

Because plaz notice the figure of missing australians?
The fac tis that 192 i think now have been confirmed dead, 30 Australians amongst them, however where are the 180 missing
THe number of confirmed dead will sadly rise
The tallies havent been finalised yet

Meh 2 things:
1. Horse, how in hell did i take your comment out of context??? its there for eveyone to read, i think its pretty self-evident what it says?
Personally, i don't care about your "conspiracy theories" or whatever else you believe, my anger is directed at the fact that you think that in some way an attack like what has happened is justified by Australia's "support" of the big bad US. Just a little history lesson here for some - the US had three of its major landmarks blown to shit by someone out there, now from my understanding of things (or "conspiracy theory" if you want) Australia so far has pledged support to help find who is responsible... and thats about as far as Australia's actions have gone. How this in some way validates our citizens being blown up overseas is beyond me. Believe what you want, but how dare you point the finger at anything Australia has "done" to cause this. Got a problem, re-read your post.
2. Plazma - so we shouldn't feel angered that even one of our citizens is blown up overseas - do we need 100% casualties before we can be "outraged"? Australia had the highest number of casualties of a foreign country, people who were blown up while innocently standing in a nightclub... if that can't make someone feel upset at what has happened, then i don't want to know what would.
Sorry for this thread to have gone off-topic in a way, but really some people amaze me with their world view and the lack of thought put into some of their comments. Continue adding condolences please, i don't think i'll be posting here anymore.

Macksta, so TV has better HARD FACTS??.. LMFAO!.. it's a lose, lose situation, you have to take everyting you have heard and put into your own belief from the *evidence* presented to you.
The one at the consulate, was a truck crashing into a tree, thats what I saw on Ch. 2, 7 and heard on the Radio..
Now that everyone has jumped on the terrorist bandwagon, what if it wasn't an act of terrorism???.. Do you think they will openly admitt that they were wrong..??.. HELL NO! ..
/me acts like an honerable captain, and goes down with his ship ;)

I'm not bagging out radio in particular, anything related to the ABC, whether it be on radio or tv is solid.
My gripe with talkback radio is that it can often be hard to tell where the opinion stops and the paid comments begin, and then you're somehow supposed to filter out facts from all of the crap, well.. I'd prefer to listen to ABC News Radio.
Either way, I've been looking around, I think perhaps cause and effect are being confused here. According to the Kansas City Star the car bomb triggered a fireball by igniting gas cylinders that were stored near by, no doubt contributing to the carnage. But yeah, the 5 foot deep crater in the street is pretty good evidence that it was a bomb.
On Saturday night, the second, largest blast left a crater 5 feet deep in the street outside the Sari. It triggered a massive burst of flames that officials said was caused by the explosion of gas cylinders used for cooking at the open-air bar. The explosion collapsed the roof of the flimsy structure, trapping revelers in flaming wreckage

I learned an important lesson from the September 11 attacks. I am trying to distance myself from the graphic images of events like these in the early days after an event. I am choosing to limit my viewing on this tradgedy because I there is a lot of emotionally fuelled rhetoric out there and I refuse to let it get to me like 9-11.
I feel great sadness towards the victums and the Balinese people who always continued to be so polite towards all the rowdy international drunks. If anything, I am more keen to go Bali for a summer holiday than ever because they shouldn't be made to suffer financially.

I've been thinkin bout goin back sometime after the dust settles, bali rocks always has always will, i so hope their tourist industry doesn't fold completly

Id like to think id still go to Bali despite this tragedy. Have never been there but have always thought it would be a nice place to go. However, in the end i would prolly pick another destination. I feel the greatest sympathy for the family and friends of those who died and also the People of Bali... this event is going to have many bad results for them i feel.

I'd definitely still go to Bali. I'd always wanted to go, and this has made me keener than ever. We should do everything we can to prevent a tragedy like this crushing the beautiful spirit of this island, which a tourism crisis surely will.
PS. I wrote a letter to the editor of the Herald Sun about this today (Melb), because I was sick of hearing about the alarmist sheep bleating 'ooh, I'd never go to Bali now! oooh'.. imo you're more likely to be hurt here - the terrorists have made their point over there now.

My deepest sympathies to those who have had family or friends injured or lost in this tragedy.
It has come as a big shock and upset me greatly.
Bali is a beautiful island - and i really hope this incident doesn't deter people from ever going there again. Bali will need to get back on its feet.
I think what has upset me most - and correct me if im wrong - the americans were aware there was a threat attack on westerners in Indonesia a month ago - it is supposedly said Americans were warned not to travel to island nations for a while. Why not inform us?
EVERYONE knows the Japanese and Australians are the biggest people who visit Bali. With Kuta and Legian being the main area where australians stay and party.
That bomb/s wasn't there to get americans.
so why weren't we given that warning.

You know... it would have been nice if more then half this thread was actually expressing sadness for the victims...
