My Turkish shop has upped its price to 11.50 for 50g - still better than 18 quid or so 'over the counter'

Simply economics drive tobacco taxation. Smoking related illnesses are a drain on the NHS. The only thing stopping a government from out right banning cigarettes is voter backlash.
 
Fakes baccy/snout only make up a tiny percent of what is smoked, and that is for a reason. I have bought fake sleeves here, and there, but have you seen some of them, fucking hell. Total tree shavings literally in some cases. Someones look and taste ok, but others are stinking. We are killing ourselves as it is but smoking some of the fakes must be killing our insides at double speed. There is one called 'gin lings' lol and these things are brutal enough to put you off smoking I would geuinely rather smoke teabags.

Thanks for sharing this. I wasn't aware of those figures, but I guess it makes sense when you consider illnesses associated with smoking n the amount of cigerettes sold.

In the UK, illicit tobacco rose by 2000 to a very high level: Customs & Excise (now HM Revenue
and Customs) (mid-range) estimates were that 21% of cigarettes in the UK market were illicit
and 63% of hand rolled tobacco was illicit,2

'illicit' covers all forms of illegal tobacco, but it's fair to assume that a decent proportion of that is counterfeit.
 
As the starter of this thread, I feel a responsibility to issue a Friendly Reminder:

A straw poll of where illegal tobacco is available is a noble idea, but please, please don't let's start giving away too much information. That is to say, enough positively to identify any individual or organisation, whether or not they have done anything illegal. And no bulk prices, either ..... Let's say no more than 250 g.

its 7e on the label and comes in form belgium Golden virginea non of that cheap crap (I think as it has x3 languages onit) so not bad - mans got to make a profit - but 3.50? is that real stuff and wheres it from
