Baccy and papers: How much longer have we got left?

Whilst skinning myself up a little doobie, I had a sobering thought: Just how much longer will we be allowed to carry on rolling our own fags?

I can see all the arguments the government might use; roll-ups are more dangerous because the amount of tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide cannot be controlled, much rolling tobacco is illegally imported -- smuggled if not counterfeit, and papers could be misused for rolling lethal skunk cannabis joints. Plus, only poor people smoke roll-ups, and some of them actually enjoy it.

Or am I being paranoid?

anyone with discerning abilities can tell that rollies taste better, and are a higher quality product than 98% of tailor cigs.

not only poor people smoke rollies, so does the art/alternative crowd

so long as big tobacco make money off people killing themselves, rolly tobacco won't be criminalised
 
Your being para buddy, but I see where you are coming from on that one. The gov make to much money from tax etc to ban smoking outright, they have to be seen to be doing something though.

Wouldn't say it is poor people only, although I know what you mean you wouldn't see a toff smoking roll ups.

For me it depends what I am smoking if its baccy or fags, for just plain smoking I puff on a snout, mayfair usually and also for green it is snout as it taste better to me, but with hash its got to be baccy defo, hash just doesn't smoke proper with fags gotta be the ol' baccy.

My old boy cant smoke snout, if you give him a snout hell rip it open an fuck it in a skin cos he rips the hole out it with his draws snout just can't hit the spot like baccy does, I do see what he means but fuckin hell its brutal, ad quit before it got that bad, I don't really smoke less its some sort of cannabis though only smoke the odd snout if am some where i can't puff a joint cos am adddicted to the nicotine after years of baccy/weed mix in my joints, hellish shit!!
 
Btw, I mind the days in high school when you used to get change from 2 quid for 10 mayfair now it is 4.90 for 10, what a fucking joke that is.

Except I don't see how they can be making very much tax money out of roll-up smokers, because there is so much illegal rolling tobacco around. I remember hearing several years ago that less hashish was being imported because tobacco was more lucrative. And even what isn't illegally imported, because it's part of someone's personal allowance and had the tax paid in the country where it was sold, isn't bringing in any nicotine-stained pound notes to HM Government's coffers.

If we estimate that half the rolling tobacco in circulation has not had UK tax paid on it, then even if half of all roll-up smokers choose to quit in disgust rather than switching to ready-rolled cigarettes, the government will still be up on the deal. If it's more like only one third of rolling baccy that is properly paid-up, then they could afford to lose two thirds of roll-up smokers.

I was being facetious =D

Anyway ..... Rolling papers would almost certainly be banned alongside rolling tobacco. So we wouldn't even have the option of stripping a fag to roll a joint with. Possession of papers -- which would no longer have a legitimate alternative use for rolling tobacco cigarettes -- could well be escalated to a serious offence. Probably included alongside things like pipes, bongs, vaporisers and hydroponics equipment.
 
I used to quite often make 'stealth' spliffs out of straights for use in clubs & gigs. Its a bit of a pain as you need to slowly squeeze the tobacco out, make the mix then repack it. Then pull the filter out and insert a roach. Failing that, there's always the bible page and saliva option. Just saying that if the worst comes to the worst, there's always a way to make a doobie :)
 
They'll never get rid of fags. The gov would lose too much tax. Why do you think they've never been banned yet?! My mam used to sell fags in the shop n wouldn't make owt on them - fags just drew customers into the shop too much VAT added.

The day they ban fags would be a shock.

When I were a lad 10 lambert was 1.09p then 1.11p etc etc and if you were poked up and smoked regal you got focus points cards to use as roach material

Do you still need to roach it doing it this way? My friends dad used to smoke like this but just left the filter in

Sounds like a hell of a faff. Might as well add THC extract to a cigarette .....

You're having a laugh if you really believe half of rolling baccy smoked is untaxed. It's maybe 5-10% tops!

When I was a yoot 10 Benson's £1,35 and if funds were low half's with a mate for 10 red band for 99p.......fuck me when duty free baccie started coming in you could get 50g for £2.50 !!!!!

Your para, rollies will never be banned. I don't know anybody who smokes illegal tobacco, and if they did it would just increase demand.

plus the fact more people smoke them now anyway, they ain't going nowhere fast.
