AU: Ice becoming teen party drug

The harder they make it to get pillz, the more "ice" (who the fuck calls it ice?) the kiddies are going to take... it's soooo much more readily available where i come from, plus way cheaper... a pill will keep me going for a good 3 or 4 hours then mega horrible crash instantly, whereas meth of the same monetary value can last me for a good 48 hours.... they really have brought it upon themselves as far as i'm concerned.

living in melbourne for the last 3 years i observed from my experiences in the rave scene that ice is especially popular with the younger kids just getting into drugs and going out, the older crowd tend to scorn ice. To say that ice has become a substitute for pills is incorrect as ice is more expensive and significantly different in effect, i have observed that ice is used in a number of ways, in coordination with pills throughout the night, solely on its own by some people fond of dancing all night without stopping, and (by most people i observed) functionally almost as a means to kill the come down from pills in the early morning so the user is be able to function normally the day after raving without being scattered, OR inorder to reenergize them for a morning 'recovery' club. If anything, ice has become a complementary product to drugs like e, rather than a substitute for it. As for its addictive qualities and current ice problems in melbourne which predominate the news, i personally find it very hard to think that the drug on its own is responsible, ive tried lots of ice in melbourne over the last year and as great as some of it is i can confirm that even the best stuff i have ever had does not compare to the kind of ice readilly available in asia, where im from, which is of a ridiculous level of purity much more harder on ure body(i have experienced weight loss of up to 4 kgs simply from sitting down and smoking less than 120mg of asian ice), and harder on ure mind(instant psychotic behavior manifesting, e.g talking to myself and constantly rechecking things, addictive cravings), i think a person would have to smoke over a gram of good melbourne ice to him/her self in one sitting to even get to that stage. now most recreational users dont use that much nor could afford it, usually buying a point for themselves or even to share. The main danger of ice here is not so much the drug but the attractive way in which its administered usually with a crack pipe, now starring down a crack pipe periodically throughout the night for 'burns' could indeed invoke psychological longings to relive the entire experience, from the way the ice first melts, to the first deep hit of smoke, to the process of cleaning recrystalised ice off the top of the pipe and down the stem, this is indeed where the danger lies, even so, i know no body in the rave scene who uses ice and lets this habbit go further than the weekend. Of course there must be exceptions,.. I dont think generally it is ruining the lives of a lot of people who use it recreationally when out on the weekend, still that is not to say that regular weekend use is a good thing for them psychologically and physically in the long run, no of course. BUT it does not constitute a proper addiction or dependancy, nor do i believe most people doing ice on the weekends are gonna evolve into addicts. the ice isnt strong enough, yes smoking the crack pipe is a very attractive proces but if ure gonna be a real idiot with ice u have to have something wrong with u in the first place, psychological weakness to certain highs, an addictive personality(no different from someone who becomes dependant on the sensation of being stoned on weed).. i love the intensity of ice, i know this about myself and thus limit my use to once a month, other users should practice more self honesty if they feel ice is going out of control and stay away from it if they cant handle it and are craving more and more once the weekends over and the ice is all gone. unlike crazy asian ice, i think the quality of melbournes ice is just right, if treated with respect and used sensibly it can be the most amazing sensation.
this is just my take on the situation from limited observation of recreational ice users in melbourne mainly orientated around the rave scene. im not defending this drug, it like many drugs can be totally fucked, but there are some who keep it under control and dont deserve the negative stereotype associated with a meth user.

People should stop calling 4-mar 'Ice'. 4-mar is not anywhere near as widespread as crystal meth, so crystal meth by right, should have dibs on that slang.

It's called ICE for a reason. 4-MAR crystals are not transparent like meth crystals. They look like ice. Big clean meth crystals look like glass, and is called glass (not by many people). I don't think 4-MAR will ever become too widespread. While being incredibly euphoric, I've only seen one person go on a binge in the last 10 years. Usually the problem is that it lasts too long with good sized oral dosages. I learned the hard way. ~120 mg dose, oral. 3 days.
has anybody heard of "new" 4-mar analogues hitting the streets?

How long has ice/crystal been around in Oz? I've been in the rave scene for 10 years or so and have only noticed within the last 5 yrs. I wont touch the shit. As stated above we all like our pills and the feelings obtained from them.

I read that ice has been available in OZ since 1999 but has been in Europe since mid to late 80's.. Is this correct? If so why has it taken till 1999 to get to oz? (and why couldnt it have taken longer lol)

wise words kirshara, pretty much agree with all of that. Never really thought about the method in which ice is consumed being an attractant tho...guess it could be/is. I'm from Melbourne too n makes sense the ice round here isn't all that strong/of high quality, does very little for me. But guess that's also good in a way- such (lack of) effects puts you off spending money on/opting for it....

I don't understand. If ice is really meth then what am I hypotheticaly buying. There is smokeable speed and then there is ice. The ice seems to last a good 15hours however unlike the speed.

Can one go of pure methamphetamine last that long?

>>can't believe ice usage is on the increase, and that people are now choosing it over ecstasy as a party drug. I've said this before in...ecstasy discussion a while back I think, for me personally ice does jack-shit, don't understand how pple reckon it gives em a "high".>>

Others find it highly euphoric.
...
Here's a question:
why the FUCK can't alarmist news-articles call drugs by their proper names?

ebika

Crackies, grabbing hold of me tightly
Puff like a harpy daily and nightly.
Will it ever stop, I don't know?
Turn on the ice, and let's go.
Too the extreme I smoke ice like
A vandal, light up the crackie
Watch it twirl like a.......

WHAT THE FUCK CUNT I'LL KILL YOU ALL DON'T TOUCH ME. 3 GRAMS A DAY KEEPS THE STRAIGHT JACKET ON CUNTS.

Freebase meth is a flammable oil, you can't smoke it.
Alright people, I've had it with the half-assed guessing & random info pulled from your asses... here's what the fuck is up:
SPEED - generic term for amphetimines (ritalin, dextroamphetimine, meth)
METH- Methamphetamine salt, either HCl or sulfate
HCL is what we usually get in USA, can be smoked, snorted, injected
Sulfate is usually found in asian countries as edible tablets
CRYSTAL- Meth HCl that has been slowly crystalized from solution (little shards)
GLASS & ICE- Slang for Crystaline Methamphetamine HCl
FREEBASE- can be found in a flammable non-polor solvent... that's how you purify it, but is really Methamphetamine(+) that has not formed its ionic bond with a (-)salt group. It is hard to extract (poor yeild) & unstable (bonds with shit in the atmosphere)

Meth is way easier to produce than E... as they fight the production of E, more & more clandestine meth labs will pop up filling the gap... If you've ate 2 tablets of E, you've ate meth, it's the cheapest thing to cut MDMA with that still has an affect.... That's why you called that pill "speedy"

6% recovery rate??? damn, I'm 1.2 out of 20 then, haven't touched that shit in 18+ months
