APPLES and how about them. (Theyre the shit!) Wats ur favorite variety(s) of apple?

uuuuuuuuuuuuggghh, sorry mari....to me, granny smith is the most disgusting apple ...Seriously, i cant stand em. They gross me the fuck out.

I like some tartness, i aint one of those people who just wants it to be all sweet and honey all the time. I like macintosh and shit like that, ones that got a little tang to em too. But the granny smith is just gross. it just tastes green to me. like grass.

I like lemons, i love the taste of lemon juice even. But a granny smith apple, noooo way. I could barely bear to put them into my pie but i knew they would be different once they are cooked so i took one for the team:)

I like them the tarter the better - Granny Smith, hands down.

I have NEVER had a Pink Lady apple, and I live (sort of) in apple country! I will have to remedy this immediately. :)

I love apples. They're amazing with Brie, blue cheese, or peanut butter (almost the only way I will eat peanut butter).

Sliced granny smiths and sharp cheddar go great 2gether!

I picked up a batch at the farmer's market about three months ago, when they were in peak season-- can't for the life of me remember what variety they were, but they were the size of softballs (or larger), juicy as all get out, and the perfect balance between sweet and tart. Oh, and crisp as a motherfucker too. They were a meal unto themselves practically, and I can't wait to get my greasy mitts on another batch of 'em.

Grocery store-wise, I usually go with either golden delicious, galas, or ambrosias if I'm in the mood for a sweeter apple.

i dont think i can choose a favorite. i actually like apples best in the form of applesauce and i use a combination to make that. but for eating by themselves it depends on my mood. cameos, fugi, gala golden delicious and honeycrisp are all good.

yo, I ate this cameo apple yesterday and it was from the same place where i got em from a week ago. Except this time, i guess it was riper cuz it was a week later or w/ever.

So last time, they had this real crisp super crunchy ass texture and had a lil tangy tart taste but just a littttle bit of it, mostly just really sweet and crisp and watery and shit. Mad good.

Well this week I got em again and it was still good but the taste was totally fuckin different! Holy shit, its a pineapple apple! Word bond that shit taste like somebody put a pineapple flavor gene inside a apple! Its the weirdest shit. Every bite i take, tastes like the flavor of pineapple but its the texture of eating an apple.

Its buggin me out--the shit tastes good as hell, Its super delicious, dont get me wrong. I like it. But it amazed me how different the flavor is from one week to the next as that places apple crop musta been getting more ripe as the season goes on. You dont get that in the supermarket. It was so cool to taste the differences as the apples got riper.

Soon the orchard place will close tho, and ill be stuck with shitty food store apples again...waaaahhh....

i love honey crisp, fuji and gala apples. never even heard of those pink lady ones people keep mentioning!

Honeycrisp, pink ladies (the apple that sounds like ecstasy), not anything with 'delicious' in the name.

What a night, I'm respond to an apple thread. ;)

^We have 2 of the Asian Pears- or "Nashi" trees in our yard- they are DELISH! :)
omg yes. perfect texture, incredible clean taste, can't get enough of 'em. i planted four trees last year but it's gonna be awhile before they're producing fruit.
damn they're good, wish i had a couple right now.

Oh shit, I missed the post about Asian pears. I don't really care for pears, but those Asian ones are absolutely lovely. I buy them whenever I see them. :)

Apples keep very well with little or no loss in vitamins or flavour. You just need to read up on how to store them & check them regularly. Stock up!

I've had apples last a lonnnng time in the "high humidity" drawer in the fridge (which is kept low--I think 35°F). By "lonnnng time," I'm talkin' at least two months. I had no way of testing the vitamin/nutrient content, but the flavor was still the same as when I put 'em in.

Found this from a quick Google search: http://www.usapple.org/consumers/storage.cfm

Like I said though, without doing anything fancy (didn't wash the apples or anything--Just opened the bag and put 'em in the fridge. :)

I happily enjoyed my first Pink Lady apple for breakfast this morning. Granny Smith still holds my top spot, but Pink Lady was delicious, not too sweet, nice texture... excellent apple.

I'm an oddball in that I don't generally have a taste for things that are at all sweet, so don't mind me. ;) I would definitely buy this variety of apple again.

yea i never heard of no pink lady apples before. Do they just sell them in the regular food store by yall?

I never seen them , at the orchard, farmers market, or grocery store. everybody keeps sayin them but I got no idea where or how to get them to try them.

nice thread lacey. I enjoy an apple from time to time. I like red delicious:
