That is my favorite thing about these (Not aphorisms actually -- just phrases and colloquialism's in general. There is (almost) always a contradictory one out there.

Mixed metaphors are a source of endless fun. Again, not my own, but a friend once remarked on the self-destructive behavior of someone we both knew by stating 'This time he's really fucked himself in the foot'.

Thirty years later, we still mention it. But never to be nasty because my friend was one of the best human beings it's been my pleasure to know.
