^Or Rugby...but of course the U.S. sucks in that worse than they do in futbol. What a pity.
Yes, the perceived dominance of our own popular sports has been reduced to feeling superior in a sport we dominate because no one else really plays. Actually that coincides with the top two sports in this country, but I hate counting NASCAR. Well, at least I hear gridiron football is somewhat popular in the UK, Japan, Germany, The Netherlands, Mexico, and Australia. Maybe we'll see that day 40 years from now when other countries take over that sport too, eh smotpoker?
In regards to World Cup talk...man what an exciting match Brazil/Ghana will be. I can't wait to see it, along with the Euro 2004 semifinal rematch of Netherlands/Portugal.
As for the U.S...disappointing, though I suppose the tough group exposed them and their sham FIFA ranking. The only positive is that they aren't hurting as bad as the Czechs are. Donovan became the Bode Miller of futbol and two of their best in McBride and Reyna are done for WC play. There is some young talent that will keep the U.S. competitive, but hopefully a guy like Donovan learned his price for happiness in staying in the U.S. and playing for MLS... you can't get better if you play annually against an inferior level of talent.
1 goal scored by the U.S. in 3 matches...ouch.
GO ENGLAND! GO ORANJE!
