Anyone into classical music?

For anybody who uses Spotify, I would strongly suggest that you find and use the app called Classify. It has just about every last obscure piece from any era that you could possibly want to listen to. Not only does it have seemingly everything, but it is incredibly easy to find as well. You can search by era, composer, conductor, mood of the song, instrument featured, everything. I've been using it every day since I first discovered it.
 
Yeah Bill, the name of the piece is actually Dies Irae by Wendy Carlos :) It's a very old theme which used to be played at funerals ;)
 
J.S. Bach - Contrapunctus XIV

This piece bears a lot of meaning within it, more so than I can do justice for in explanation. It is one of the most morose compositions from the Baroque Era, or arguably any era, for obvious reasons if you read up on it. I much prefer this interpretation over Glenn Gould's interpretation of it. Douglas Hofstadter originally introduced me to this one in particular a few years ago in his book: Godel Escher Bach, an Eternal Golden Braid.
 
I enjoy listening to a disparate array of classical artists, but I lack any nuance with regard to appreciating the exact form and style I am hearing. Anyone have any advice on increasing my understanding?
 
i enjoy music so naturally i have a strong appreciation for it

havnt listened to any in a long time and really not a historian of any sorts

but i used to have an hour commute to work and would listen to the shit in whole ride in the morning on most days

geroge gershwin's rhapsody is blue is one of my all time favorite pieces
