I may have the opportunity to spend the summer living and working on a small family winery in rural Texas. It is owned by the parents of a a FOAF.
For one thing, wine is one of my passions in life. I love most every varietal of wine, trying new wines, comparing the same wine of different vintages, etc.
I worked as a bartender and in fine-dining restaurants for many years. I have traveled extensively through the wine country of California and Washington State, as well as all over Italy.
The thing is, I'm pretty sure the pay will be minimal, perhaps extraordinarily so. I would be provided room and board and the opportunity to work hands-on with one of my lifelong interests.
Plus, a couple months in the country doing hard physical labor everyday (or most days) sounds like just what I need right about now.
Has anyone ever worked at a winery? Stories? Advice?
Thanks.
