Any talent on bl

My very minor talents include djing (I've recently gone to the darkside and bought a Traktor S2, I like it but I'm not gonna ditch the technics yet!), and road and tour cycling. I regularly do 100 milers over the summer, and once did a 3 week tour of Holland and Belgium, camping overnight. All that whilst smoking 3 spliffs a day for 6 years. Thats gotta class as a talent! lol

Brimz that impresses me too! We should catch a local game this summer, what do you think? %) SHM you could join us!

I'm a fucking DJ too actually haha, once played a gabba set in a grimy basement to about 20 of my mates and a few randoms at a night they used to put on. Sadly I was using CD decks so no talent required, the tunes were banging though %) sadly that was my only foray into the dizzy heights of being a superstar DJ...

Pete your art is stunning <3 not had a chance to listen to everyone's soundcloud yet but I will!

I disagree. People make out like if you're not beatmatching yourself then you're not really DJing. How difficult is beatmatching though? Do any proper DJs actually find this a struggle? It takes no more than a few hours to learn how to do it. I can beatmatch, I just can't afford decent decks & to constantly buy records. I could switch off the sync function on Traktor & do it myself if I wanted to but there's no point. The talent is in the tune selection, dropping it at the right time, blending the tracks together well, knowing what goes with what etc. If you are good at all the other stuff (which I'm not lol) but can't beatmatch then you can still be a good DJ, if you're the best beatmatcher in the world but can't do all the other stuff then you're still shite.

Don't get me wrong though, despite that big rant, I still like to see a DJ just playing off two turntables & a mixer. I think it does take more skill to get it proper bouncing with only that at your disposal (no loop functions etc).

In short, everyone can beatmatch but not everyone can be a good DJ.

Genesis P Orridge?

Was compared to him on here just a few days ago. Small world.

Plus I look much better in make-up and a dress.

Cool though. Well done you.

I'd probably happily kill some bitches to work some decks. Only issue is I don't know anywhere I could learn and I wouldn't buy some just to find out I won't do much with them, would be a waste. Although, knowing me, once I got them, you'd probably have to crack me across the back of the head with a wooden plank to get me off them.

EDIY: Just played my first gig tonight on Bass Guitar, for a charity organisation for Head and Brain Injuries. It was weird not playing guitar for once.

Buy some second hand 1200/1210s probably wont be cheap but if you decide it's not for you you could sell them on and wouldn't lose any money at all. If you pick up a bargain you may even make a tiny profit.

I was a DJ in New York City for the better part of a decade. Now in Seattle I play bass guitar in 2 regularly performing bands, one of which that has a pretty respectable following. :)

Technics, aye?
I'd be happier taking a look if I knew I could be taught by someone, too, haha. Don't wanna end up becoming a laptop DJ, instead ;P

Techinc 1210's are one of the best sets of decks to get if you're at all serious about DJing :)
I had some little chav trying to tell me that Numarks were the best 8)
Pfffffffffft is all I could muster to say to him.

Yep, they aren't in production anymore so prices aren't going to be decreasing any time soon. Not that they did when they were still being made. Some people are spinning with turntables that were made over 20 years ago, they are that durable.

I think my brother managed to pick up a pair with a mixer for about £350 a little while ago which were pretty much brand new.

Aha, I had a sort of idea of who makes the best equipment, sort of thing ya pick up when producing as well, 'cause it's all so related.

Dear me. I'd be a very happy lad with that. What brand was the mixer?

I'm not sure what the mixer was I don't think he used it for very long. Apparently he got it all off some guy with more money than sense that bought all the gear, used it twice then left it in his spare room for a couple of years. He just wanted to get rid of it.

Got dust covers and everything, absolute bargain!

Too fuckin right! £350 is an absolute bargin! Regardless of what the mixer was! :D

Using it twice and then leaving it to collect dust????? Man.... And we think that humans are slowly evolving 8) Haha!

I'd bloody love a couple of 1200 / 1210's. But I wouldn't have the cash to get all the tunes I would wish to own on vinyl, nevermind cutting all my tracks onto dubplates :|
Tis a shame, haven't have a good session on some decks in years. Have to stick with my laptop, and I can't afford a copy of Serato.
So I just do it on Traktor - And that's without headphones, so I don't get any output for the other mixer channel, so I do it by eye and knowledge of the tracks I play.
Though I'd bloody love Serato and a MIDI mixer. Something to strive and save up for.
