Health any schizophrenics have exp. with DMT?

I'm not telling you what you think. I'm telling you that you have no grasp on what true mental instability is.

BTW, you could name a hell or two that is worse -- I'd be curious to know.

No you can't. Remember, your perception is your WHOLE WORLD. You can only experience what you can detect, and if the detection/analyzing properties of your brain are damaged, your WHOLE WORLD is damaged.

As a diagnosed schizophrenic, I can tell you first hand that there is nothing more terrifying than the notion that EVERYTHING you know is simply a chemical gamble made by the brain, and that such a gamble could be way off the mark.

amen

synchrojet - There is a DMT hyperspace report of yours, i believe its called "Infinity Of The Now" - dude that report is the BEST description i've EVER READ, its a report i've printed out for people, linked people, its like.. the best DMT trip report i've ever read, truely *AWESOME* here it is:

http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=50414

Now I don't know who asked, about an update on my friend, but I just talked to him tonight on AIM (asked if he wanted to sign up/post himself but i'll give an update anyway)

He said everything was still all-good, no voices, no nothing since the one toke of DMT (quite a while ago too i forget the month.. October '05 around there).

Until he did some coke a month or two ago... some voices returned.. but so far they have disappeared again, he hasn't heard a voice in at least a couple weeks or so.

Recently a friend (you know who you are ;) ) mentioned knowing some schizophrenics in his country that smoked some DMT and same thing happened. GONE. Also something about (at least one anyway) learned to do his own extractions and would just take a toke every couple weeks, got off all the meds etc, and just tokes DMT every couple weeks to make him well 'normal' (for lack of better words, hehe).

:)

Yaesutom --

Yeah -- DMT really aired me out. It is an invaluable tool for spiritual growth. I have not had the good fortune of smoking DMT for a few years now. How I long to try it again -- I need to revisit the construct.

After that first breakthrough I talked to my colleagues like a sage...lol. They were sure I was crazy, but really all that happened was I had undergone an experince that permanently altered my perception of reality -- for the better, I would say. For certain, my music is better.

I've tried yopo seeds, which contain a form of DMT. Is that weird experience anything like the DMT trips you guys are talking about? I inhaled the snuff, everything started to swirl, and suddenly I was riding a rocket through a hyperdimential circus. AT some point, there were some children (or circus midgets from the freak show act?) singing strange songs. I even met a bizarre circus clown or harlequin in there. Sadly, I still haven't found a source for pure DMT and don't have time to research it.

I'd like to thank gloggawogga for breathing some fresh air into the thread.

I believe that is 5-meo-dmt. It's rather different.. What you experienced, though, is very similar to what dmt users also find. Strange singing [humming, language] with vivid, swirling colors, and lifeforms that can range from clown-like, to alien, to insectoid.

n,n DMT comes from several sources, from which it can be extracted..

You have to admit it's getting better, it's getting better all the time...

I have personally met several people who claim that they had suffered schizophrenia, schizoaffective bipolar, 'classic' bipolar, autistic spectrum disorders, to an alarming degree, which was not controllable via any available 'medications,' which miraculously attenuated after the ingestion of a single dose of DMT (varying between the light buzzy ones and the ballbreaking fuckton doses).

I didn't know them beforehand though so I'm in no position to speculate how things have actually worked out for them - I just know that DMT has been a broad-spectrum positive factor in finding a better balance, WHATEVER that may be!

I once facilitated an oral DMT trip (acacia bark, ~10g. syrian rue 3g) for a good female friend of mine... she had been going through about a year of depression and mood swings (it 'comes and goes' with it coming more often than going), and she had been rather terribly abused sexually and emotionally when she was growing up, would depersonalize and start cutting herself, etc... needless to say I was scared shitless that she would flip out on the stuff, and worse yet I _could_ have said "nah, burden of care, can't in good conscience give you the stuff" (especially because I couldn't BE present at the time!!! 8o ), but was utterly compelled to give her the doses anyways. What the hell, it had been doing so much good for me at the time and it didn't cost me jack shit, I was somewhat of a fledgling emissary of the stuff at the time, so...

Instead she experienced a lasting positive effect from that one dose alone (and even more lasting positive stuff from journeys later on) where she basically seemed to become 'totally OK with everything,' stopped thoughtlooping, starting eating properly again, becoming more socially active in a more constructive way, more self-assured, self-directed... went out and started tackling life like a 300kg quarterback. I'm PROUDA her...

Several of the people I have met who have claimed that it helped incredibly their various 'mental conditions' I met because they came up to me and went, "You wanna try some DMT I extracted?" Some of these dudes are incredible, extracting from three different types of DMT source and making up smoking mixes with like 16 different amazing herbal substrates in them like oldschool shamans recipies.. and we smoke it and it's amazing and all that ;) and then they go, "Yeah, if it weren't for this stuff I'd be in a fucking institution by now..." :D

The striking correlation between the hypersensitivity and brain activity that both schizophrenia and a DMT-induced state create is enough to make you wonder.. what other factors do we need to consider?

Is DMT trying to balance something out here? Is energy being balanced or directed positively for the schizophrenics benefitting from DMT?

I have told every doctor I see that psychedelics in general helped me learn to cope with the notion that all experience is subjective (the cornerstone struggle for me), and that DMT in particular reset my cognitive default to one that is much bvetter than it was prior to taking the drug.

Without a doubt I would be in much worse condition were it not for extensive self medication. It was DMT, after all, that enabled me to quit cocaine in all its forms on the spot, once and for all (I still have not touched it). That action alone improved my quality of life immeasurably.

Yeah, I've heard reports of people who were addicted to freebasing coke basically 'giving it up' heart and soul after trying a bit of smoked dmitzzle... I wonder if there's something going on that's 'resetting' the overall neurochemical shebang, like dumping the RAM and rebooting :) ("wow, that was all, like, _sy-en-tiphic_'n'shit...")

the voices only got worse after acid and dmt fior me

shrooms, if anything helped but only when used in the right environment

resperidone caused me to move my jaw alot when i was taking it a few years back. abilify has not caused this to happen, but when i was taking welbutrin ontop of the abilify i became suicidal but felt like it was "all okay".

my advice to you people thinking about offering dmt to your schizo friends is to just do shrooms with them in an easy relaxed environment.

Well, i've been debating this for a while... But might as well throw in my .02

Let me start out by saying that it is foolish for anyone with a diagnosed mental disorder to be fooling around with hallucinogens. My use is foolhardy and dangerous, and i very well may end up much worse for the wear from my use than if i had abstained. I recommend that anyone with schizophrenia or the like stay away from strong hallucinogens like DMT until more research is done regarding the interaction of the two. DMT is not a miracle cure for schizophrenia as i understand it, and will most likely cause problems for some one who has trouble with reality and boundaries anyway. Using DMT when you know you have serious mental problems is fucking retarded, and anyone doing it is begging for trouble.

That being said...

I am a young male who has had a psychotic break in his early twenties, and after that was diagnosed schizoaffective. I've had a lot of trouble from it before i was placed on antipsychotics, but now am doing much better. Before i was medicated with antipsychotics, i was not in touch with reality enough to communicate with anyone, and was so far gone that i was pretty much convinced that i was in hell or some similar extradimensional afterlife where i would have to spend the rest of my confused eternity. Now several years later since the break i'm pretty much normal, aside from the side effects of my medication and occasional problems when under abnormal levels of stress.

I am experienced with DMT to an extent, and have found that for about a week or two after an experience that my mind feels more connected or together and that i have less problems with hallucinations and voices than by treatment with an antipsychotic alone. I feel less nervous and depressed, and i feel that my mood is more regulated. I try to space my experiences way out to where i'll have at least two months in between to recover and monitor myself in case this drug will cause any problems with my nerves. I've tried to anticipate issues, and have kept careful watch over myself in case it was one of those things that causes problems weeks or months later on after use. So far, it has not caused any issues with my disease at all. It has not caused me to "freak out" or have any trouble with organization or mood. No memory problems, no problems with my emotional working, no problems interacting negatively with my antipsychotics. This is with moderate to strong doses of DMT. It appears to me that it does indeed help with the negative effects of my disease to a noticeable extent. This doesnt mean next time i take up the pipe that i wont end up a mentally crippled gibbering mess for the rest of my life, a burden to the hearts of those unfortunate enough to love me. In fact there's probably a decent chance of it. Just saying, so far so good. Great, in fact.

I do not believe that it has "cured" my disorder, just that the occasional use of DMT does seem to alleviate the symptoms of my particular form of schizophrenia to a greater extent than antipsychotics alone.

I really wanted to keep this personal for several different reasons, first and foremost being identifying myself as mentally handicapped. Secondly, i hate to deal with the shame that goes with publicly admitting my dangerous and fucking stupid actions. However i figured that it could do more good to the community out in the open, and maybe could some day help point the way to something that could help alleviate some of the problems caused by a disease which currently has no cure, and that causes it's sufferers to have no place in their society.

My experiences with DMT always have a strong touch of the holy about them, and i always feel welcomed and guided by the grid. It's an interesting contrast to psychosis, and i dont feel DMT and psychosis are related in a schizotoxin kind of way, even though that idea is probably not an issue anyway.

I'd point people who have had success with smoked DMT in cases of schizophrenia... to traditionally prepared ayahuasca (which usually contains DMT).

There are countries like Peru and Brazil where this preparation is legal and one can spend some time with curanderos who are specialists in healing various disorders...

Also, I know of one person who drank ayahuasca with the Santo Daime church for two years, once a week, every time he would go completely psycho, screaming, bumping into people, running around and basically being mad... they gently put up with him all that time, and after two years he began to stop acting this way, and now he leads hundreds of people around the world in Santo Daime ceremonies.

this thread has been an awesome read.

elemenohpee, i really respect you and always enjoy your posts, but your arrogance in this thread is really kind of ticking me off. first off, re god: you are a hardcore atheist, so obviously any ones belief on whether they are god or not is going to seem like a delusion to you. so basically your opinion on that is a bit moot

but what really gets me is how you keep referring to those who do their own research with psychadelics as stupid. you know damn well that not enough research is done with these drugs. orgs like maps are a godsend, but they can't do enough, they have to wait for the fda to allow them to do their work, because they understandably are above ground, bc they need that respect. but it is the underground culture of psychonauts like us that lead them to know where to go. it has always been that way and always will.

i don't think people are stupid to go down that path, they are brave, and indeed smart enough to know that their choices are what is needed if this world ever wants to get anywhere in its mainstream knowledge of the potential power of psychadelics.

My atheism is not what provoked that comment. I said its a delusion because its a classic symptom of mental illness. As I said before, just claiming to be god in a buddhist sense would not be a delusion. The belief that one is the creator of the universe and omnipotent is. This can be proven fairly easily by recognizing that the universe existed before this person was even born.

I don't think anyone who researches psychedelics on their own is stupid. Any time someone takes one of these drugs they are undergoing an experiment. In that sense, I research these drugs frequently. But I know the potential consequences and I take that into account when making decisions about these powerful mind-altering chemicals. One of these risks is that psychedelics are known (through other people's research) to trigger or worsen mental illness. So to give someone who is already displaying symptoms of schizophrenia the most powerful psychedelic we have is pretty ballsy. You call it brave, I call it reckless. What would have happened if this dude had gone completely insane, and a once manageable mild schizophrenia had become a full blown psychosis? Would you still have been calling this guy smart? I know I wouldn't, I'd say, "What in the fuck were you thinking? We know psychedelics can trigger mental illness even in apparently healthy people, why would you give it to a schizophrenic?" The fact that this turned out well doesn't negate any of that. If I played russian roulette and lived, would that mean I'm not stupid for playing in the first place?
