Any advice to help avoid amnesia and/or blackouts from benzos?

My friend has only a few experiences with benzos.. One experience where 3+ mg of Lorazepam with no tolerance resulted in him only having a few 5 second memories in his mind of the whole day.. He was with his family that day, and from their accounts, he was doing some crazy shit until he passed out in the evening.. He remembered only taking 1 to 1.5 mg and getting a nice buzz (but apparently his judgement was bad from that dose) and then taking the rest for some stupid reason.

He has heard of similar stories of how benzodiazepines can make someone very intoxicated while they only feel a little buzzed, and then becoming a "drugbot" who takes even more benzos or other drugs under the influence.. Or perhaps forgetting and redosing over and over.. Geez.. It is good they aren't very toxic compared to most CNS depressants.

He has a couple more experiences with benzos.. One time he only had 10mg of diazepam (Valium) alone, and another time where 1 mg alprazolam (Xanax) and 5mg of diazepam was consumed.. He had no issues then and acted normal..

So is their any tips to help avoid blackouts or amnesia from benzos? Perhaps dose in small doses and then keep the rest of the stash put away to help prevent unwittingly or compulsively redosing while intoxicated? And are some benzos less or more amnesic than others? Where would etizolam rank?

Thanks in advance, and mods, if this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.

Ahh, something I can truly help you with. At the end of your post there you answered your question.

In my experience the problem with benzos is the desire to redose. I've binged on Xanax valium and ativan before. Never mix them or you will blackout esp if drinking alcohol. But if you have 0 tolerance then never go above 20mg of valium or 2mg of Xanax in a night. Dose before you go out and leave the rest HOME. I used to black out all the time with Xanax because of the desire to re-dose every fucking 45mins. Some nights I'd be dabbing MDMA, smoking weed, drinking beers and at the end of the night there'd be at least 5mg of Xanax in me(I take the 0.5mg pills) and that's only because I had the pills actually on me.

Nowadays after a 2month break from benzos I just filled a 10mg Valium script. This has been my second week. I take only on weekends and I take 1 before I go out to drink. I must say it's been going swimmingly. Depending on how much I actually drink determines my amnesia. But I haven't been getting any amnesia. I might forget seeing someone at the function but that's about it. I know exactly what I did and haven't lost any personal items.

For the record I've lost a cellphone, college graduation ring, shades and a cool OBEY belt just on Xanax before.

So my advice, take 10mg of valium or 1.5-2mg of Xanax and limit your other drug intake(significantly). And NEVER mix benzos or take them everyday. And also leave your stash HOME.

Thanks for your input. My friend will definitely be cautious and lock up his stash in a box (hopefully then even if he does blackout and the benzos tell him to redose, he might forget about his stash. Lol)

I agree with potato and would dose smaller.. what is the point of using a drug to the point where you cant remember the experience.. also they dont call them goofballs for no reason, when they are consumed to the point of blacking out people act really goofy and this may likely get you in trouble.

Hahaha I don't touch Xanax anymore because of that. Or if I do I would only make sure I had ONE. I used to drink a beer and take one and feel good and take another. Then I had people tell me I would be all crazy later playing the 'who stole my Xanax' rant. Not good. From my experience, Xanax makes me do things or act ways I would NEVER act. Brings out the primitive being in us. Food, sex, and violence.

I took too much one night and ate 6 double cheeseburgers from mcdonalds. Oh geez...
Prior to that I was DRIVING around with my fiancé went to a friends, tried to play monopoly but didn't even know what was going on, and went to a buffet and piled my plate like a 60 year old farmer, and spooned it in my mouth. This was an 8 hour span that I cannot recollect. And I think I blacked out after my second one. And I was driving everywhere. I don't take them anymore. I threw up nothing but blue later and I'm glad I did because I don't know what would have happened if I went to sleep.
My best advice is if you are going to take them. Make sure you don't have an amount on you that can allow you to keep taking them. My friend had a good amount, more than I had that night, and he did the same thing and was in the ER getting his stomach pumped.

P.s. You won't forget about your stash. Even blacked out or messed up you can function almost perfectly and you just don't remember. A lot of people didn't even know that I was taking them, they just thought I had drank a little bit and was stoned. I was driving, stopping at stop lights, walking around, and conversing. Don't remember a thing.

Ha. Thanks also for your input. It is strange that benzodiazepines like Xanax, are CNS Depressants, but often cause people to go out and do crazy things. It's strange that a drug designed to calm people down can cause bizarre behavoir as if a person had a temporary lobotomy. You would think that you'd just enjoy the buzz for a while and then fall asleep. I believe that there should be some more scientific study on benzo blackouts, and what is going on in the person's head that makes them do all that crazy stuff. I understand that they affect a part of the brain that creates new memories and can cause blackouts because of this, but why the odd behavior? I can act civilized and function pretty well on almost any drug, even on 3rd plateau DXM dose, which causes quite powerful dissociation.

Reminds of of when i used to enjoy zolpidem from time to time and often wake up with no memory 10 and 10 tabs missing from the box. Redosing while im high and being stupid if acceptable but redosing like and idiot when im blacked out and a zombie feels like some kind of violation of my free will.

Some people are more prone to blacking out, memory loss, and amnesia. Sometimes it has to do with chemical imbalances that is drug/alcohol related, but a lot of times its a part of their genetics or the way the memory part in their brain works.

I have been one of those people who has taken two white xanax bars (2mg each) a total of 4mg, with no tolerance quiet a few times and never blacked out once, but for many others they would have blackout or real bad memory problems if taken that much with no tolerance. My best friend would start to black out after having around 5 drinks but i could drink 8-9 and still not black out, although i would get real hungover and very sick the next morning.

However just because i don't experience the blackout/amnesic/memory issue, doesn't mean that the majority of people are the same. I guess i'm lucky to have had never any blackout episodes from high dose benzos when i used to use them sparingly at high doses with no tolerance. Upto 5mg on xanax, ativan 10mg, valium 80mg, temezapa 60mg. BUT thats just me and my brain, either way it is very common and the most common complaint or side effects of recreational benzo use (blacking out/memory loss) so your not the only one. I would just play around with the doses till you find the right amount that you can still remember everything but still feel it.

---Try 1.5.2mg xanax next time or 2mg ativan (idk what benzos you have so ill name dosages you should try for some other common ones too) if you do klonopin try 2mg as well, valium do 40mg, and temezapam 30mg. I'm giving you dosages that i think would be safe and create less blackouts/amnesia for you based off of what i read, i could go much higher but everyones different. Hope that helps any.

I am going to be getting a small stash of etizolam soon. (It is a research chemical benzo) I hear that 1mg of it has around the same potency of 10mg Valium.

Strange thing is that alcohol or any other drug than benzos. has never really caused me to black out or affect my memory much. although I have only drank probably 10 times in my life, and never really tried to get shit faced drunk, ha. I'm only 19 (I live in USA so I have to be 21 to buy booze) and it is just as easy for me to get other stuff as alcohol and I dont like the taste of most alcoholic beverages.. The most I ever tried to drink was about 6 drinks or so.. When i drink, I drink to get a good buzz and relaxation and only drink more to maintain the feeling rather than try to get more f*cked up.

I will warn you that you will not necessarily forget about your hidden locked away drugs position and whats more likely is that you'll remember when fucked, then manage to lose them or put them somewhere hidden. Of course you will not remember doing this and end up losing plenty of drugs. or other important items that you might need.

I don't recommend ever mixing benzos with opiates or alcohol but if you do, use a small dose of benzos.

Be safe.........

Benzos cause me to black out even in small doses.
1 mg of xanax is a lot there a reason it comes in .25 lol
id recommend taking it slow low doses will get ylu the desired effects with out all the brain fuzz.
Mixing alcohol and benzos is a terrible idea. Take one or the other they both hit the same spots of your brain and the combo will jus lead to undesired effects.

If its anti anxiety your looking for doses small enough to not even feel high will help with out you even knowing.
