Anxeity - how long???

Hi guys,

Just try to keep at the relaxation etc (it's hard I know) - it did help for me and hopefully with you as well.

It did feel strange the 1st time I managed to relax totally for a few mins - I thought "shit - my heart has stopped beating" (not through anxiety, but just that I was constantly thinking about it before) - then realised that I was totally relaxed with no pains/stress etc.

Good luck.

Hard Trance, I am very interested in trying some relaxation therapy. Could you possibly descibe in some detail what you did?

Hi there monkyfunky,

The 1st 2/3 weeks or so they asked me to sit back in a chair with my head supported and my eyes closed and then just notice the tension the feet, then tense them and feel how tense they feel for 30 seconds and then just relax them and feel that the tension has gone away noting that you are changing the tension in your body and that you have control. Now repeat that step for the legs, arse, hands, chest, shoulders (including neck) and then finally your forehead. After you have done this stay relaxed taking deep breaths and imagine yourself in a place you would be relaxed (such as on the beach) for a couple of minutes. I did this at night just before I went to sleep and also in the day if I felt myself getting stressed/tense.

After you have done the 1st step for a couple of weeks go though the same steps as before but don’t tense each part of your body just try to relax it (it’s hard at 1st, but you can eventually get there). Do this for another 2/3 weeks.

After the last 2/3 weeks the final step is to just see if you can feel any tension in your body (don’t go through the individual steps) and just relax the parts that are tense (sometimes if you can’t get a certain part relaxed just try concentrating on another part of the body that is relaxed and then when you go back to the part that was tense before it “should” have gone away.

I did this every night without fail (and also when I got wound up) and it seemed to work.

Also if you are in the UK you should beable to get relaxation classes through the doctor for free on the NHS (thats what I did) - just go and see them.

Hope this helps.

There is hope!!!

TO ALL ANXIETY AND PANNICK ATTACK SUFFER'S THERE IS HOPE!!! IM A SURVIVER OF BOTH!!

From what I can recall I had my very first anxiety and pannick attack after taking my first pill, I think I actually had one while being on it.. Scarey as fuck I know.. but there is hope you you guys!!! I have been searching for answers, reading books, and you know what, its all about OUR THINKING! If your consently thinking about they way your feeling all the time of course your going to be pannicking and feeling like shit... the first way to recovery is to accpet what has happend to you, and that you are going to recover, its going to take time but stick in there...

For me I still get anxiety and pannick attacks every now and then, I have learned how to become stress free, I am on a low dose of antidepressants to help with the pannick and anxiety... I have taken speed/meth a couple of times since then... *wasnt a good idea* Im staying clear of all substances and try not to think about drugs or anything realated to them.. thats what is helping me..

Go and see your Doctor, counciler.... Your not alone.. Read books about how to cope with it, and realaxation tequines!!

PM IF YA NEED TO CHAT!!

Lahah=D

I have being getting a sensation where I am standing on solid concrete, but feel like I am standing on a water bed just slightly bouncing up and down even though my legs are perfectly stilll, at completley random moments

Yep I get that aswell. I also had derealisation and loads of other things people have mentioned, but it's all going away slowly. I stopped drug use pretty much totally and nothing positive happened at all, it got worse. My problems have started to go since I've STARTED drugs again and I think it's down to no longer worrying about it. I take E almost every weekend now and I feel really good most days afterwards, infact strangely I get anxious when I'm not on a comedown! If anyone can think why I would be very interested in hearing it. I've come to accept it's all in my head and there is NOTHING wrong with me. It's hard but it can be beaten, I'm nearly there I'm so sure.

Hey Treacle

Glad to hear someone else gets the same thing as bad as that sounds

I have stopped all drug use permently since this happened, and will continue to do so

Taking more drugs might temporarily numb the problem at the moment, but eventually the e's wont be as good, and all that sort of merry go round shit will start up of life revolving around drugs

I'm under the impression that e's caused this in the first place, so to reverse it, I've stopped taking them, and am just on a fucking very long comedown, and that's the way I look at it

I'm guessing that when you are coming down, you feel like shit so don't think about the anxiety, and finally when your straight, the anxiety thoughts just start up again, so you have more e's to try and bandaid the problem

How long had you stopped drugs till when you started them again, had you given yourself enough time, like months to a year, or just a couple of weeks?

Hello All

I like to think that drugs are a catalyst that bring out into the open what's hidden in our depths.

Even the smallest amounts of e/speed/meth/acid can cause anxiety in those prone to these conditions. If you are a non-anxious person by nature I guess the chances of developing anxiety are way smaller, and repeated high doses will be necessary to trigger an ongoing fear response about life.

I have been there, so I know. Both chronic anxiety and acute panic attacks. Luckily this is years ago.

But even now, smoking grass can sometimes bring on severe discomfort in social situations. Hence I just don't do it very much unless I feel truly fine or have had a drink or so (softens the edges ;)). I have also found, though, that while the problem was really bad, alcohol would really mask it only to make it worse the next day...

Along with many other people here in various threads, I have found that diet (avoid caffeine, sugar + white flour; increase magnesium + vitamins) and mental development (meditation, breathing) as well as physical exercise can REALLY make a difference. As can some herbs (valerian, passiflora, melissa, hops).

Using 'recreational' drugs (whether it be alcohol or e or whatever) to mask one's anxiety can only make it worse in the long run, although of course the sole reason why it is common practise to drink socially is the 'lubricating' effect - it's disinhibiting, in other words, it reduces anxiety (temporarily).

=D =D

I had horrid anxiety due to E and weed that began in a late winter and was totally gone by that mid spring. It tends to show its evil face at times, Despite the fact that I gave up both some time ago though. But its never half as bad as it was in the begining.

I stopped drugs almost totally for about two years, so long enough. Also I'm usually still happy on a comedown so it isn't me being miserable stopping me caring about the anxiety. Good thought though.

weed vs. aniexty

Just wanted to share that i read on the internet that weed causes panic attacks also aniety..for as long as it is in your system :(

Cheers mate. I'm gonna try that and also ask about relaxation therapy at doc.

dabnybrown (and every body else who is trying the relaxation thing).

Keep at it (it did work well for me) and also don't rush each stage as I found it takes a while to perfect each one before moving onto the next one.

Also I forgot to say that when you are relaxing each part of your body it does help to feel it becoming heavy and sinking into the chair/pillow/bed etc.

thanks for your relaxation method.i amagine the waves on the beach coming in and out with the tide each time making its next wave higher up by body starting with the toes to my neck..also i ent for acupunture or acodetox and it was a mirile..i hate needles but these are tiny than hair folicles..peace and much love..39 clean days for me....i did hear that it will be 3 months before all the zannex will be gone.and no more deep cravings....

Something else to try...

I found something for you guys that are trying the relaxation thing. You can use this in addition. I go to the gym every week and they have a free "Healthy Living" Magazine and I found this in it:

Managing a Panic Attack Naturally

Breathing Exercise for Relaxation -

One of the fastest and most effective stress-relievers is the "4-7-8 Breath" taught by Dr. Andrew Weil. Place the tip of your tongue against the bony ridge by you upper front teeth. Breathe in through your nose for 4 counts. Hold your breath for 7 counts. Exhale through your mouth (making a whooshing sound) for 8 counts. Repeat this cycle 4 times, twice a day.

Although I think you could probably do this when you feel an attack coming on and it will help. Hope this helps you guys! I haven't tried it yet. Haven't had an attack in.....almost 3 months! =D

sounds like your stuck in the merry go round bad thought land

Try not thinking about anything, just practice the relaxation, and practice and practice (I know it's fucking hard to shake your thoughts)

and if all else fails - have a xanax %)
