Anti-anxiety drugs

Why don't we just all end this by you posting me a reputable source claiming prolonged benzo use is perfectly fine?

didn't say perfectly fine, just that the benefits outweigh the side effects for SOME people.

I take benzos everyday it's either that or i put up with the godawful anxiety and panic attacks i used to get. I was a wreck before i went on them so they are working great for me now even though i lowered my dose of clonazepam by 2mg's just over the past month. I was a total anxious wreck before i went on clonazepam so i'll trade being dependant on benzos for having no anxiety.

Where is your medical evidence that it's wrong to take benzos for a long time? You seem to be pretty militant about the subject which kind of pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time. I don't even know why im arguing with you. It must be that it's sunday and im really fucking bored.

To tell you the truth
benzo's are probably less harmfull long term then ssris :/
ever tried cold turkey off of paxill?
ive done both

I think you're right. Lets get together and write a big fancy letter to the medical community and tell them they accidentally approved SSRI's for long term use when in fact they should have written that benzos were the ones for long term use. We'll probably get one of those cool white jackets doctors wear for our observation.

i can vouch for that as well...

i've been thru withdrawals from (all cold turkey)

80mg / day IV oxycodone habit or w/e else i could get my hands on
60g / day PPT (morphine) habit
3mg / day klonopin addiction (3 years)
10mg / day lexapro withdrawal

the worst w/d was from lexapro. the oxy w/d lasted about 5 days, and then the next time i went thru W/D i went on suboxone, benzo w/d is pretty uncomfortable, but a few beers can fix that until you get more benzos... BUT LEXAPRO WITHDRWAL.. OMFG... i was on 20mg a day, then went to 15mg a day for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks @ 10mg a day, then a month at 7.5mg a day, then a month at 5mg a day, then a month at 2.5mg a day, and from the 7.5-2.5mg doses i was going thru slight SSRI withdrawal, headache, nausea, OCCASIONAL body shivers/brain zaps, then after i stopped at 2.5mg a day, the occasional body shivers/brain zaps turned into hourly body shivers/brain zaps, more uncomfortable than any opiate or benzo withdrawal i've ever felt, horrible nausea and general dysphoria that lasted 3.5 weeks. the first two weeks were complete hell but after 2.5 weeks it started to go from every hour to every 3 hours, and then eventually got better, but it was torture after i went off even at 2.5mg a day! and also EXTREMELY uncomfortable tapering down, i felt the decrease every time once i got below 10mg a day... terrible drug for my body

LMAO all those problems you have and you're sitting there telling me your gonna smoke your pot forever and take your benzo forever so none of those bad problems will happen to you again.

Done wasting my time on you. l0l

why would they happen again? i'm never going to take an SSRI or anti-depressant again... pot and benzos dont give me brain zaps, and if i taper off benzos i won't have any withdrawal and there is no withdrawal from pot, and i dont plan on getting off benzos because they are improving the quality of my life, and they do not impair my cognitive abilities or memory. just out of curiosity are you a scientologist? and how do you know the amount of benzos you take isn't going to cause the damage you think it will cause other people who take it a few extra days a week than you take it?

Taking a fast acting benzo for longer then 2 weeks is enough for withdrawal.

Taking a benzo for longer you risk severe dependance.

And i've said already you can take a fast acting benzo like xanax around twice a week. You still risk building tolerance however.

k-pin is the most suitable for long periods of administration because of its longer half-life. But i still wouldn't want to be dependent on that shit. :p

I'm amazed at how people lack the foresight to do their own research when prescribed drugs. ESPECIALLY a benzo. But i guess this is also why its like having a debate with a group of 12y/o.

Enjoy your benzos everyone. Cause your time is limited. I was nearly unlucky like you lot with k-pin then i stopped after a week cause i heard of nasty dependence and decided i wasn't going to foolish enough to just push my problems under the rug.

You're making it sound like Benzodiazepine withdrawal is going to permanently destroy someone's life. It's not. You or the people that post on Medhelp aren't the only ones in the world that have either tapered off of Benzos or gone cold turkey off of them. I've done both, and so has a lot of people here. Yeah it's unpleasant, but it isn't the end of the world and when all is said and done nobody seems to be worse for the wear. I'd rather taper off of Benzos than Effexor any day. If they took the necessary steps in getting therapy and counseling for their anxiety while on them they should be better off when they stop. You're trying to corner Benzos into a functionality they weren't designed for. They're not prescribed as a cure for anxiety, they're prescribed as a tool to help you live your life while you learn the coping skills needed to live with anxiety.

heyyy nycrosshairs, relax. i mean let orange take his meds if he wants and if they truely are helping his quality of life - at the moment. i agree with you on a lot of points like how long term everyday benzo use is prolly not good in the long run when someone finally decides to get off, but to call someone on the internet an idiot because they don't automatically agree with you is, well sorta, idiotic. i honestly believe in better living through chemistry and ironically im not on any meds myself - besides the occasional high. i think most people understand benzo W/D is hell and even tapering over long periods can still cause bad effects. dont want to sound to much like a hippie, but chill out, relax and discuss the topic at hand without flagrant insulting... 8-/

Thats for people who are so bad they can't leave the house so they can see a therapist. Even at that its only meant to be used for a couple of weeks.

You don't 'learn' to get better from anxiety by taking xanax and feeling good. If i take enough xanax i can give a speech to thousands. That however does nothing to cure my anxiety.

You can only cure anxiety (if you can cure it at all) by dealing with it the way your brain is without any foreign substance added. Cause when you add xanax to the mix you're not dealing with anything. I know this first hand. I take xanax and it allows me to do things i would never. But till this day it hasn't done anything to get to the root of the problem or to help when i am completely sober.

Says who? Therapy and Counseling can be just as effective for people suffering from all degrees of anxiety. So can Benzo treatment, and it usually takes longer than a few weeks.

I don't think that's true. Your mind doesn't simply forget what its experienced once it's not on a Benzodiazepine. Anxiety coping is all about exposure to its source. Benzodiazepines help a lot of people face their sources of anxiety without having full-blown panic attacks or traumatizing experiences that set back their progress. Having exposure to those things on a Benzo makes it that much familiar and easier for a person when they're exposed to them after they stop taking the medication.

Well i will say that obviously i haven't experienced every single persons anxiety but maybe extreme cases can benefit from the exposure a benzo affords.

But for people here ( as no one stated there bad enough where there locked in their house) i don't think this is the case.

But ask yourself one thing. Do you become dependent on a benzo after prolonged use?

Answer: Yes.

Taking this benzo out of your system FURTHER screws with chemicals in your head leading to WITHDRAWAL. A nasty thing that somebody with anxiety can't afford. Considering we are already chemically messed up in the head.

This isn't the year 4459. As you know very very little is known about the brain and what these things are TRULY doing in the long run. Taking a tranquilizer is something like dropping an anvil instead of using a hammer, on a nail to make two pieces of wood stick together.

The science is far from exact. Everyone seems all to eager to not believe this and feel their benzo is just the missing piece that their brain needs. When infact its a foreign piece, that for the moment, is sufficing for whats actually needed.
