Anti-anxiety drugs

damn this is the worst benzo discussion ever.

THE FACT that benzos have helped some (any number, really) people long term completely discounts your hypothesis that they never work out. You only need a couple of cases to disprove a theory. I cant believe this argument is continuing.

I'm too lazy to read the argument.....
But for me, I take
5-HTP (50mgs)
daily multivitamin
sublingual B vitamin complex.
caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, whatever it takes)
Klonopin (occasionally)

I've found this combo to work great, even if it's just a placebo effect. For example yesterday before I went to work I took this cocktail and I was WAY more friendly and talkative and generally happier. The funny thing is that I though I already took my 1mg Klonopin . So at work i though it was just the Kpin that was making me feel so out of character-friendly.

Then I finally come home from work to realize that I still had the original kpin in my pocket and the entire time I just felt good from OTC supplements/placebo/just having a good day.

I'll take 5-HTP, vitamins, sublingual b vitamins over any SSRI I've tried.

My disclaimer is that I've only taken Zoloft, Prozac, and Welbutrin and everything doesn't work the same for everyone. But best bet besides your doctors advice, would be eat well, sleep well, exercise yadda yadda yadda

edit: benzos rule but IME they don't work for me long term. But they are absolutely lovely to have around once in a while. but if I have them every day I get strung out and need them to feel normal...and that certainly doesn't help anxiety at all.
edit again: the one thing that made me feel the most anxiety free was not doing ANY drugs and living healthy for at least a month.

Nice logic genius. So because 1 percent of people can use them long term then 99% of people should try and fail and have terrible affects.? Unbelievable

I'm simply saying its foolish to remain on a fast acting benzo for years. You're only making the problem worse in the long run. If this wasn't the case then anxiety wouldn't be an issue as we could all use xanax everyday of our lives until we die, But we don't so your wrong.

^^benzo's don't have "terrible effects" on people unlike anti-depressants which work on some but not others take months to see any results n blablabla

theyr're a sure deal, a done package, they work, for relieving anxiety they work.... ... and i'm not talking about the "i'm a bit stressed out", but real anxiety dissorders.....
they are addictive... which is why taking them for the least amount of time necessary is the best thing to do... and is why tapering is highly recommendable if not necessary when stopping....w/d, if done properly are easily coped by most...

Have you been diagnosed with a serious anxiety disorder?... probably not, because if you had, the first line of medication to help treat these disorders are benzodiazepines...

p.s. this is reallly the last time i'm gonna bother proving you're wrong, so how bout you just leave BL

Also, that guy doesn't know what he's talking about so much.
my mom's been on 2 mg a day clonazepam for 3 years, helps her majorly, it's stupid to say not to take them every day, especially if you're questioning the therapeutic use of the benzos

While it's pretty obvious you or others you know have had bad experiences with Benzo use that's not true for everyone, not even 99% of them. I think you're underestimating how many people a Benzodiazepine regimen helps and you're definitely overestimating the number of people who suffer terrible consequences from taking Benzos daily. When taken as directed they're not toxic, they're not impairing, and they help people live their lives with an otherwise debilitating condition.

Benzos don't make anxiety worse in the long-run. People may feel more anxious if and when they initially stop taking them, but then their anxiety returns to its standard level. That's not even taking into consideration that most people really don't even have to stop taking Benzos. They could stay on them for years and years without any noticeable deterioration in their physical or mental health. If they do eventually decide to get off of them, the therapy they should have been in the whole time they were on them should provide them with the coping skills to deal with their anxiety without the use of medication. It's the people who either take more than they should, or the people who stop abruptly, who have the problems you're talking about.

Correction. You know what isn't showing problems at this point in time.

You nor i have any idea how we will react to things down the road.

For one you're taking a benzo daily which you should never do (no matter your reason for doing so, its wrong). Unfortunately a lot of people get pigeon holed into doing so. Say what you like but when the time comes to get off that benzo (and yes my friend, that time will come) you can only hope to delay the nightmare of years of use by bouncing around on other benzos.

On top of this you expect to smoke weed for the rest of your life? LMAO My friend your in for a rough time.

I require a benzo aswell but wasn't foolish enough to take it daily cause its not a cure. If i was weaker i might tell myself that.

You and marijuana use? 'Drop it like its hot' will soon be your motto.

Id like to know why you think taking a benzo everyday is wrong? If someone wants to take a benzo everyday and it's working for them who are you to say it's wrong for them to do so.

^ he's a qualified M.D. guys come on, leave him alone!

but anyway back to the topic...

i'd say gabapentin + diazepam are the best anxiolytic drugs i've ever been on, and next doc appointment i'm gonna ask for a script of gabapentin (probably, 1,200-1,800mg a day). i'm back on valium @ 20mg a day, and it works wonders, i dont even take all 20mg each day and i still feel calmer, more relaxed and less pessimistic than when i was taking 1-3mg of klonopin a day (for the past 3.5 years with the exception of a few months on ativan, valium and librium)

when i was on zaleplon (sonata) for insomnia, i also noticed an increase in the anxiolytic effects of the klonopin, and i'm going to also try to get an Rx for ambien/sonata/restoril in addition to gabapentin + valium. i also take focalin (the dex version of ritalin) at low doses daily for SAD/energy/ADD, and it surprisingly enough helps a lot, i don't get jittery or anxious from it like i do with adderall or dexedrine or coffee... however i only take 2.5mg or 5mg 1-2x a day... low dose. focalin + suboxone + valium = an anxiety free & happy EOJ? and hopefully the sonata/ambien + suboxone + valium + focalin + gabapentin combo will yield even better results...

and just to show, the switch from the klon > valium made a difference, a month ago i was jobless, depressed, lethargic, daily insomnia, etc. and since the switch to diazepam i've sent out my resume to 9 places, got a callback from the best paying one, and got the job, start work tomorrow! i have valium to thank for that because normally i'd be too anxious to call , let alone go to an interview with the owner of the company & the main manager & the boss i'm going to work under.... diazepam is making my life better. and functional. and i'm happy.

Notice the 1 thing everyone in favor of prolonged benzo use has in common. Either themselves or someone close to them is taking a benzo daily. Of course you're going to tell yourself whatever you want to hear. You're getting relief and want that feeling to last.

Plus half of you have terrible reading comprehension skills. OF COURSE people using them for a couple of years are having great results. I'm talking about down the road when they have to come off them. Theres people who are on them for 20 plus years and there a mess. They can't come off them cause there dependent and its a nightmare for them. But on them they just feel out of touch among many other problems.

You CAN'T expect to take a type of tranquilizer for the rest of your life and be ok. You can however get relief from them for a couple of years but you'll have hell to pay when you come off. Tell yourself whatever you want but sooner or later you WILL have to come off because just like other drugs the negative affects start becoming a lot more pronounced and the positive affects start to become less and less.

And quit replying with "well i been on them for 1-4 years and feel great." Cause the above explains why this is irrelevant and you're completely missing the point.

It will be impossible to have a reasonable debate if you keep changing your definition of "extended period of time."

First you said taking Benzos daily for any amount of time is irresponsible. Then you said taking them for a few years daily is irresponsible. Now you're saying taking them for decades daily is irresponsible. Why don't you tell us exactly how, if at all, it's ok to take Benzos daily so we have a solid basis to debate?

what are the negative affects that come with using them daily for years? Ive tried to research this issue and found very little information. most of the time, the information is very vague and seems to vary a lot from individual to individual.

nycrosshairs, the fuck are you talking about?
If someone has *real* anxiety, benzos will help long term, but lead to an addiction, yes. But they help.
For your self-diagnosed, self-medicated anxiety, sure, they will not work.

Taking a fast acting benzo for longer then 2 weeks is enough for withdrawal.

Taking a benzo for longer you risk severe dependance.

And i've said already you can take a fast acting benzo like xanax around twice a week. You still risk building tolerance however.

k-pin is the most suitable for long periods of administration because of its longer half-life. But i still wouldn't want to be dependent on that shit. :p

I'm amazed at how people lack the foresight to do their own research when prescribed drugs. ESPECIALLY a benzo. But i guess this is also why its like having a debate with a group of 12y/o.

Enjoy your benzos everyone. Cause your time is limited. I was nearly unlucky like you lot with k-pin then i stopped after a week cause i heard of nasty dependence and decided i wasn't going to foolish enough to just push my problems under the rug.

My man. PLEASE go to http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/71

Its a forum just like this (except its very detailed med problems and ppl aren't looking for highs or abusing benzos) with people with indepth knowledge of benzos. Whatever benzo you are on there are tons of old topics with what happens over long term use. Its pretty sad and scary. I am not trying to knock anyone here or call them stupid.

dude, i'd risk dependance if it would only make my anxiety go away. And you don't need to take it daily. On a 'as needed' base has kept many people sane and not addicted. It seems like you're only looking at the black sheeps in the benzo community man.
Like me. I get 20 1mg ativan a month for over 2 years now, and i am *not* addicted, but i take them maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and they help me like on the 1st day with my anxiety.

what about all the people who are using them long term hand just have a better life?

it's "they're", so our reading comprehension skills my be sub-par but once again your spelling and grammar are off. But that is besides the point of course.

And many people are on medications for life, whether it's antidepressants, benzos, painkillers, aspirin, etc and never have any problems even after decades of use, i know from personal experience and from what i've been told by medical professionals. SOME people can have negative reactions after the first use, after a month of taking a med, after a year, after ten years, everyone has a different body and reacts to medications differently, and benzos, for some people can work for long periods of time with little-to-no side effects or damage, and the quality of their lives is dramatically improved (job, family, etc). You seem to have a universal answer to benzos and there is no universal answer for any drug because they don't affect each of us in the same way.

nycrosshairs< dude just let it go... no-one here agrees with you, you have nothing to back up what you're saying... just stop... i think most people here have some in-depth knowledge of benzo's first hand and with doctors, psychiatrists and psycho-analysts views on the matter...
all meds have side effects, some dependancy issues.... but would you not give someone suffering from chronic back pain morphine, or oxy, it's exactly the same, they do lead to problems down the road, but you just gotta deal with it... if you have an anxiety disorder, treat it...
it's obvious that you have never had a serious anxiety dissorder....

Why don't we just all end this by you posting me a reputable source claiming prolonged benzo use is perfectly fine?

Oh wait you can't. Now here comes a bombardment of silly posts of he said she said....

Thats what i said man. I said taking a benzo once or twice a week is fine, its what i do aswell. Theres nothing more in my life that i would rather do then take my xanax everyday. But i was smart enough to read up and find out it will only make you worse down the road.

btw the link to your forum looks like some scietology or evangelical preaching goodness to the world, "medhelp" bullshit...

if you like your forum so much... you should just stick to it... we'll stay on BL, and you can stay on Medhelp and everyone's happy...
