An Old-Timer and recent MDMA Disappointment

Hey everyone. I don't actually know if this is the best forum for this post so Mod's please move to the appropriate section if not.

I'm an aging conesiour of certain substances when recreationaly appropriate (especially MDMA) and wanted to share some recent disappointment with you all. See if there are others who are experiencing something similar to what I'm experiencing.

I'm in my mid 30's I've been in the game of substances for many many years (around 15) in a variety of ways and on a variety of levels. I have come to develop a real and true appreciation for MDMA. I have an enormous respect for Dr. Alexander Shulgan. I have actually been coming to and using this website for many years. I had another account that would prove this but can't seem to access it. (probably because I haven't used it in so long) It's probably better to be more anonymous (as I am now) anyway so I guess it all worked out for the best. I have realized that I will always have a love and admiration for MDMA and the beautiful experience it can provide myself and my better half.

I have to share with you all a huge frustration however. Maybe you all can identify with me or perhaps it's just me getting older and being a bit of a snob. It seems that the people involved in the "industry" these days are terribly uneducated. I remember way back when as I was trying to decide if I wanted to take a stroll down this journey I did as much research as I could. I read everything available. I literally studied the substances i was interested and this was exponentially compounded when I decided to make a living with it (this was many years ago and I don't do that anymore).

I realize now I have no connections and don't really know anyone anywhere but is it just me or do these people seem even more uneducated than they where back when I was in business? Have things degraded so much over the last 5-10 years? Are people really so uneducated?

If you're going to partake in a substance why on earth would you not want to educate yourself as much as possible? Have people of my generation (and the ones prior) just aged to the point where they're not interested in MDMA the way they used to be? Have they forgotten the magic and bliss it can bring your marriage (or insert other relationship here)?

I'm a bit drunk so please pardon the ramblings but it makes me a bit sad to relate that I have to roll the dice with some 18 y/o punk claiming he's got "triple stack" bla bla's with heroine in them in order to enjoy this magical experience. . . (ok, ok, no i wouldn't even talk to someone who spouted that type of nonsense)

I guess I might just be spoiled because I ALWAYS tested product before retail and knew exactly how much of what was where and I made SURE to be educated on anything offered in the store. I guess it just seems there isn't any professionalism and expertise these days.

I guess we can thank our ridiculous drug laws for ensuring all of us are at risk. I mean god forbid we actually make things legal and safe. . . /rollseyes

any other aging lovers and conesiours of MDMA run into similar frustrations? How did you handle it? Have you just given up?

I really wish this beautiful and pure experience could be something my better have and I enjoy for the rest of our lives. . . Sadly the new kids running the industry better step it up and learn or I fear for the future of our enjoyment.

Hey there - welcome to the site :)

In short - YES things have really degraded that much over the last 15 / 10 / 5 / 2 / years! What you may have missed is that a lot of pressers simply switched from the drugs we all love (MDMA/Ecstasy) and replaced them with a shitty and somewhat 'legal' replacement - commonly known as piperazines! Millions of these adulterated pills were / are being produced and simply flooding the market. The new comers to the scene bought (in faith) what they believed to be 'Ecstasy' they consumed, they knew no other high so they assumed that this (the jittery high, the sweats, the bad stomach aches, the hot cold flushes, the being awake for hours and hours, the feeling that you were going to die etc) was what us 'old timers' were talking about.

If they had taken the time to research what they were taking - had taken the time to buy a test kit etc then probably the scene wouldn't be the way it is now - the honest truth is a lot of people like to get high. A lot of people really don't care if that's with what you and I would call 'Ecstasy' and they simply think that because they buy a pill off a dealer they are taking 'Ecstasy / rolling'.

I'm (in your books) an old timer - I have not given up (at all) and I am loving the new wave of MDMA /Ecstasy pills flooding the scene (Europe).

To address another one of your points - why take an unknown substance? New substances are showing up on a regular basis - when I first discovered 'Ecstasy' it was pretty much an 'unknown' drug (pre internet days).

Buy a test kit - test your gear and enjoy :)

I'm over 40 and start doing MDMA in the later 80s. I don't ever remember a time when dealers were highly educated or were entirely to be trusted. Any new drug is going to be good when it first comes out because it is a new market. Plenty of cash to be made selling the straight dope. After a while demand gets high and the scumbags notice there is money to be made selling crap. I think this started in the early 90s. I remember going to clubs and the dealer was selling handfuls of pills and then vanished an hour or two later leaving hundreds of people disappointed and angry.

But the quality of MDMA seems to be going up again now. People are willing to pay more for good stuff and that market is being addressed. Also buying MDMA powder seems to be a better bet overall.

Just another older person here (I'm 65) and yes finding good gear is difficult, which partly because of my age I don't socialize in the sort of circles where you can easily hook up with a dealer and secondly because there seems to be a lot of adulteration of the product these days.
We use mdma no more than 3 or 4 times a year and find it has a positive effect on our relationship. It's a shame more older people can't, don't, won't use because I think most would benefit from it, particularly in preventing them becoming set in their views.

I know a lot of younger people in my area that think that MDMA is just another generic stimulant high and have no clue or care if the "molly' they are being sold is something else entirely or mixes of other chemicals. Its disappointing to me as I want to know exactly what I'm taking. I am only 19 but when I'm at festivals, I tend to gravitate more toward older heads because I respect their knowledge and understanding of things a bit more. I have noticed this and I'm only 19. Of course I didn't see the changes firsthand but I can get a glimpse with the help of older friends.

It is really depressing to me however when people try to tell me that MDMA (pure) is fake because it doesn't cause a feeling of wanting to run around full of energy. They think that MDMA shouldn't be mellow and relaxing. I can dance fine on pure MDMA...I just consume a red bull with it rather than just take a gamble with a source that people admit is probably poor but they like the high more than pure stuff.

Sadly test kits are a must have for any user nowdays. I am only in my early 20s and even I know that the days of easy to come by high quality un-adulterated E are all but over. I get sick to my stomach when I hear the ignorant way people ramble on about 'ecstasy' and 'molly' and 'mdma' as if they were 3 entirely seperate substances. "well dawg ur xtc haz sum coke maybe some meth or heroin in it while ur molly is pure, and idk wtf mdma is."

Had it not been for my AMAZING first experience (which I now realize most people my age will never have) I would have been completely turned off by it. Since that experience a few years ago about 80% of what I encounter is fake, fake, and more fake. Maybe its just because I live in the U.S. but mdma is in bad shape, while meth, pipes, mephedrone, and methylone run rampant in the clubs. Maybe its a worldwide shortage of precursors or the legal alternatives (no longer legal as of october 1) that caused the market change, but if I think about it too long I get depressed, like a good friend of mine moved away that I'll never get to see again. :(

Too much greed, not enough love.

/end rant

I would say this kind of "progression" applies to any cultural phenomenon. When something new appears in this world, it's typically appreciated only by a small group of people who tend to be a little more serious about this phenomenon. As the phenomenon enters the mainstream, you get a look more casual users who have no respect for this phenomenon and they simple treat as just another casual way of satisfying their hedonistic pleasures. Someone figures out how they can make money on these casual users and everything then starts to degrade into just another package that is promoted by product peddlers.

This happened to MDMA, this happened to electronic music and it's happening to the internet. There's not a lot that can be done about this in the short to medium term. The only real solution is to change they way people relate to each other within society. You can't have people being respectful to each other and the world at large if your society is based solely on promoting consumption so some people can sell more crap.

Well I'm glad it's not just me. . .

Hopefully those of us with a true appreciation for the real thing will endure and come to meet the newer generation with the same values. It actually makes me feel better to see some younger folks (LogicSoDeveloped and Trollfeet) who are on the same page!

Maybe there's hope after all :)

Pills are really sketch these days... I'm 31 and been around the scene since high school... I never buy pills anymore... I didn't even do any ecstasy for a couple years till I ran into an old friend that happened to have a reliable source of top grade molly... since then every roll is amazing as long as I space them at least a month...

And I still test every batch I get with reagents just to be sure...

I'm not saying that good pills don't exist... they do... but the typical low level pill dealer knows nothing and sells trash... if you can find good molly, chances are fairly decent that you may have found a good source...

Test kits are an absolute neccesity in this day of pipes that give ppl 2 day hangovers and RC's that can make ppl flip out or other chems that can have serious health issues... and shady dealers that talk everything up like its the best anyone has ever had...

Like condoms... they're very effective if used...

I'm in my late twenties and I took MDMA for the first time a year ago. It's amazing to me how many people I meet who know nothing about MDMA. I've met dealers who don't own a test kit or knew they were available for purchase. I try my best to educate those who seem clueless about the drug. I often refer them to this site. As bearlove said, it's unfortunate but there are many who just want to get high... And don't really care what drug it happens to be at that given moment.

If you rarely use mdma, and find a decent source...

A full gram should last you a year :)

YES!

Two people (myself and s/o) with enough for a few experiences a year. . .just about perfect.
