Am I about to have a heart attack?

dankstersauce said:
this is how i feel when i had panic attacks^^^^. esp after smoking too much heady weed, or doing too much coke. i'd guess your fine, i'm no doctor so if you feel like wasting 3 or 4 hours go to the hospital. then again you could not go and waste your entire life. but my assumption would be that you're fine and you are just freaking out.

dude shut up. you've obviously never had a panic attack. like a REAL panic attack. Your mind is a powerful thing...I've felt all sorts of symptoms that existed no where except my mind. I've gone to the ER before when i was having a panic attack because i was completely certain i was having a heart attack and knew i was going to die.

How do you know he didn't have a small MI? Again, while the OP may have had anxiety it was precipitated by something real which was IV'ing coke. If he had smoked some bud and said he was having a heart attack it would have been funny. But in this instance the etiology is fucking scary.
Nickatina- I thought this thread should have been closed a while ago, too but it appears that misconceptions about responisble usage remain. A coke OD is not like a Heroin OD. Heroin OD is quick, shot goes in, you fall into respiratory depression. A coke OD can be quick, it can take hours, it take on all kinds of weird fucking forms. It can take days. Because when OP's clonidine wears off, his shit might go through the roof again. Who knows?

Emerald, he should definitely not admit he's taken cocaine. You don't need that on your medical record, it can fuck up getting prescribed decent drugs in the future. If he goes to hospital it will likely be a wasted evening. OP; see your GP on Monday.

aren't medical records confidential? i've been honest with doctors about my drug abuse and if i went to another doctor, they wouldn't know about it unless i told them. also, even the doctors i did tell, it never stopped them from prescribing me controlled substances. most doctors are very understanding about drug use in my experience and don't judge you. the worst you usually get is a lecture and even then, its just because the doctor is looking out for your well being. i only had one doctor that got on my nerves about my drug use and thats only because she told me some stuff about marijuana which at the time, i didn't think was true. however, after smoking more and doing my own research i found out, the hard way, that she was indeed right. anyway, my point is, unless i am missing something, i think your medical records are confidential so if you tell one doctor you use drugs he can't tell anyone without your consent.

Thank you sonnyluv! Finally, common sense. I could echo everything you say. I feel a bit presumptious as I waltz in here, post a trip report and then interfere with possibly the way the forum operates and I hope nobody thinks this is deliberately intended to annoy.

I felt and still feel genuinly concerned for the lad. Sure, it could be a troll, it could be a 70 year old granny, but all we can go on is what we have and gut instinct. I think he genuinly thought he was having a heart attack. At 16 remember, his internal organs are not yet mature. And unless there is a medically qualified person commenting in this thread, then I also think none of us know what's wrong with him, if he's had a small MI, a panic attack or what. We can't state "he'll be OK with no immediate treatment" who the fuck are we to presume that?!? dankstersauce I'm sorry but I don't like the way you've almost made him feel that going to the hospital is somehow wimpish and weak.

As for admitting or not admitting to IV'ing coke, maybe your doctors in the US are idiots ..... all I can say is that this would not work here. The needle marks, the blood tests, the symptoms - no doctor is quite that blind. But that misses the point really. I just thought that when his life might have been at stake, the truth could just be the best thing to tell people who are qualified and wanting to help you.

I still say the only concern here should be is he OK? Then do your postmortems. At least they won't be on someone's 16 year old son whose only crime was stupidity.

Edit Sorry burn out, we crossed in the posts. Yes, that is also a very valid point. And let's face it - even if the police are called etc, at his age it won't be allowed to be put onto any records or job enquiries when he's an adult. Or that's the case in the UK. But even then he isn't some evil sex offender. He's a normal 16 year old who could have become a tragic statistic for doing what if we're honest, most of us have done at that age (not specifically coke IV) and got away with.

I'm medically qualified. And BTW, everyone who strolls into the ER with chest pain, abdominal pain, smelly armpits, black eyes, cancer whatever gets a utox. Urine toxicology. You can lie but you'd just be wasting your own time and diminishing whatever good working relationship you have with the ER physician.
Test positive for cocaine, marijuana, ampetamines, what have you. You can hid your track marks kiddo but you can't hide your pee-pee. Get your heart looked at dude.

The point is if he needs something like amphetamines in the future his GP may be unwilling to prescribe it if he knows about the OPs cocaine abuse.

Your ER doc generally doesn't communicate with your GP. Small town medicine is different but ER docs generally leave it up to the parents.
No, you will not be forever banned from getting amphetamines. But, ironically, if you have valvular cardiac problems from a IV cocaine usage, you would want your ER doc to communicate with your GP so you don't have another cardiac related problem.

i was thinking that as well. if you have heart problems from cocaine, you should want your doctor to know about them before prescribing you amphetamines. and i just think that saving your life here is much more important than worrying about a future prescription for amphetamines. if someday for some reason you really want a prescription for amphetamines, you can always go to some psychiatrist who doesn't know you have abused cocaine or you could even claim you abused cocaine because you had ADD or whatever and were self medicating without knowing it. some doctors will actually prescribe a drug similar to a drug a patient was addicted to in order to treat the underlying issue. for example i had a friend who was an alcoholic and his psychiatrist prescribed him benzodiazepines so he could use them for anxiety instead of alcohol. of course my friend ended up just mixing both but the benzos did help him significantly cut back on alcohol consumption, so it's arguably a viable medical practice.

^^ If you have an understanding, genuinely caring doctor then you should be able to tell them anything. Well almost anything. What you've said is right. OTOH, you can cause yourself problems by being too open, trusting and honest with people. A lot of people will use it against you.

Policy of Truth.

Well, Everystar stopped posting in this thread at 17:13. I would like to believe that he turned off his computer, and went to the ER.

Unfortunately, I suspect he is just shooting more coke.

Hopefully, he doesn't turn up dead.

Shooting coke sucks sooner or later, people!

Right after I said it went away, immediately all the symptoms of a heart attack came on at once, much pain in my left arm, chest, back, shoulders, neck, started to get dizzy, I swear I thought I was going to fucking die I started crying and dialed 911 but told the operator not to have a fucking ambulance come i couldnt have my parents know. 10 minutes later I open the door to 3 cop cars and an ambulance in front of my house, I was taken to the hospital and stabilized, just got out now. now i'm in some shit with my parents too. Also, they did a few tests, took an EKG, my heart is fine I didn't do any permanent damage, didn't have a heart attack, but yeah if I hadn't called 911 maybe my mom would have come home to a dead body.

You did the respnsible, mature, and right thing.

You put your health and your recognition of what your accidental OD may have done to your family.
You were in over your head, checked yourself and are now back on the path.

TO ALL THE POSTERS WHO DOWNPLAYED THIS AS AN AXIETY ATTACK-TIME TO START FEEELING SOME SHAME AND QUESTION WHAT YOUR SELFISH MOTIVES ARE.

I'm glad you're ok.

From my experience, I was thrown from the side of sympathy by the fact that your pulse was 96. As an anxious person, I consistently get a 120-130bpm pulse before stimulant drugs have even kicked in (obviously, I am not talking about IV use).

Yeah, by the time the paramedics got here, when they took my pulse in the car it was at a constant 110-120 bpm, until they slowed it down themselves.

Sorry for the late response to this, I went away for the weekend and just returned. I'm so very, very glad you're OK EveryStar. I couldn't get this thread out of my mind all weekend! In the end, to read that you did what I wanted you to do, ie told your parents and went to hospital is wonderful!

Don't worry about how they feel now. When I by complete chance found my 14 year old daughter choking on her own vomit from alcohol, I completely lost it and half killed her from the shock of seeing her almost die! When that died down, I was just thankful she was OK and your parents will be the same.

I too, hope the posters in this thread will learn from this. Coke is Class A for a reason. And if someone posts like this, they probably really do need medical help. For those who said if it had passed he would be OK, note his second attack!

I hope you haven't been banned from this forum - or not yet anyway and get to read this. I would have posted earlier if I could. I'm so relieved you got help and were OK in the end. Eventually your parents will realise that you were brave to risk their finding out about this and chose to call an ambulance rather than die overnight in bed. Nobody will think badly of you. At your age you have the excuse of being young and stupid :) it's when I end up in ER thanks to some kindly soul hundreds of miles away deciding I'd taken too many doves that it gets embarrassing :)

Wow.. I am very glad you are okay! Congratulations to that. Next time, don't mess around with something like that.. but I am not putting you down either.. I'm just glad everything turned out that you are okay!

Nice to hear you're ok!

My pulse was 150 bpm in a terrible panic attack , resting on the bed. EKG showed normal tachycardia, I was sedated with benzos because it came from alcohol withdrawal.

Damn, you went to the hospital just because of a panic attack? I dunno but this was really the first time for me I really figured going to the hospital was an absolute life-or-death necessity, I mean now I really know what they mean by "as serious as a heart attack" and I wouldn't have gone for anything less than that. Even then, I figure fuck it kinda ruined what I had going there with my parents I might as well not have gone, maybe just ride it out and it might have all gone just fine. But I like to tell myself I'd have died if I hadn't called the paramedics (and that's what they told me at the hospital as well), because otherwise it just seems like calling 911 was a giant waste, and I could have very easily avoided the awkward situation I'm in now, with my parents.

I guess karma just has a way of biting you right on the ass when you least expect it, I've IVed coke hundreds of times, I never would have thought the fatal shot would've come on a peaceful Friday afternoon, home by myself, getting ready to go out for the night...and bam. I guess if it wasn't that shot, it would've been the next. And if not, well I knew I was gonna keep pushing the limits further on each shot and eventually one of those that night was gonna get me. At least it scared me enough into being more careful, and not to just slam down on the plunger as soon as I register and see that crimson red cloud of blood flow in, when I'm doing a real big shot, maybe shoot half, wait, shoot the second half slowly...ehh.
I mean you know how it is, you just always think ODs happen to "other people" they can't happen to you, now at least every time I'm gonna do a shot I'll always have this day in the back of my head, and think before I do anything reckless.

P.S. Btw what really sucks is that the shot that nearly killed me didn't even get me all that high. :-/ I guess the rush is never as good as the first shot, no matter how much you're slamming at once... Then again the whole "I'm gonna die" anxiousness and mortal fear I was feeling accompanied by endless sweating and tachycardia kinda ruined the high.
